Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Just as Sierra Sullivan was thinking this, she heard Nathan Thorne’s emotional voice.

"Listen to me, if you can avoid awakening a third Superpower, do it! I used to think the more Superpowers you had, the better, but now I know that’s not true at all!"

"The more Superpowers you have, the more energy you need. It’s fine if your body has enough energy to spare, but if it doesn’t..."

Nathan Thorne trailed off. He shivered, his face filled with lingering fear, as if recalling something terrible.

Although she hadn’t gone through what he just had, just looking at him, Sierra Sullivan knew his recent experience must have been awful.

Dominic Crawford looked at Nathan Thorne, still shaken himself. "I was actually thinking about trying to awaken a third Superpower, but now... forget it! Just forget it! It seems like more isn’t always better when it comes to Superpowers!"

Jayce nodded. "More Superpowers definitely isn’t better. The old sayings have taught us that, haven’t they? It’s about quality, not quantity. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Two Superpowers is plenty. If you can level both of them up, that should be more than enough."

Nathan Thorne’s face was a mask of misery. "You guys have said all this, but what about me? What am I supposed to do?"

"What do you mean, ’what are you supposed to do’?" Jayce shot back.

"You all said two Superpowers is best, so what about me? I’ve already awakened three. What now?"

"Excellent question!" Jayce praised him. "Now, don’t ask again, because I don’t know what to do either. You’re on your own."

"What?"

Nathan Thorne obviously didn’t get it, a look of complete confusion on his face.

Jayce clapped Nathan Thorne on the shoulder. "It’s not that I don’t want to tell you what to do; it’s that I honestly don’t know."

He could only give advice on things he’d experienced himself.

But how could he advise someone on something he’d never gone through and knew nothing about?

He couldn’t, of course!

Nathan Thorne knew Jayce was telling the truth, but that knowledge only made him panic more.

Seeing him like this, Sierra Sullivan found him both amusing and a little pitiable.

"Alright, it’s no use overthinking it right now. Stop worrying and let’s just take it one step at a time. If it really comes to it, you can come back with us to Red Sun Base and have Dr. Hayes take a look at you."

Sierra Sullivan had only meant to comfort Nathan Thorne.

But Nathan Thorne thought it was an excellent suggestion, and his eyes lit up as he immediately agreed.

"Okay!" Nathan Thorne agreed, jumping to his feet. "Let’s do as you say and go back to Red Sun Base!"

Seeing him decide so quickly, Sierra Sullivan was at a loss for words.

’Didn’t he agree a little too fast?’

’We’ve come full circle, only to end up going back to Red Sun Base!’

’Then what was the point of coming out here?’

’If we hadn’t come out in the first place...’

Sierra Sullivan quickly suppressed the thought.

’I’ve been spending too much time with Nathan Thorne. My own thoughts are starting to get ridiculous.’

"Since it’s decided, let’s get going," Jayce said. "But before we leave, we need to deal with this residential complex."

Just a moment ago, the atmosphere had been fairly relaxed.

But after hearing Jayce’s words, everyone fell silent, and the mood tensed up.

They all understood what Jayce meant by "deal with this residential complex."

In all likelihood, there were no living people left in the complex. Everyone had been turned into zombies.

These people might have had a hard life before, and they might not have survived much longer anyway.

But regardless, that should have been their own choice to make.

Instead, they were forced to become zombies.

Turned into zombies, treated as a ready supply of Crystal Cores... could anything be more tragic?

Jayce’s gaze swept over everyone’s faces. "I know this isn’t easy for any of you, but what’s done is done. The only thing we can do now is clear out all these zombies. Dwelling on it won’t do anything but make us feel worse."

Nathan Thorne nodded in agreement. "Jayce is right! This isn’t the time to be sad. Let’s hurry up and clear out these zombies, then head to their main base! We’ll take care of all those scumbags!"

Hearing Nathan Thorne’s words, Dominic Crawford and the others felt their fighting spirit ignite.

"That’s right! They’re all scumbags! We can’t let them live, or who knows what other depraved things they’ll do in the future."

Autumn Lynch and Felix Foley might be dead, but there were definitely still people at the cannery.

Not a single one of them was innocent.

Letting them live would only lead to more deaths.

They all had to be eliminated!

With a clear goal, everyone was now full of motivation.

Nathan Thorne stuffed all the leftover food from the table into his backpack.

Luckily, none of it was soupy or watery, or it would have been a real pain to pack.

"The people who were with me..." Nathan Thorne frowned. "I haven’t seen them since I woke up. I wonder if they were locked up in another room."

"I’ll take some people and look for them right now," Dominic Crawford said, immediately heading out with a few others.

"I’m coming too!" Nathan Thorne hurried out after them.

Jayce looked at Sierra Sullivan. "Sierra, you go check it out too. I’ll be right there!"

Hearing this, Sierra Sullivan gave him a strange look, not understanding why he wanted to send her away.

Although she was confused, Sierra Sullivan didn’t ask any questions. She just nodded and walked out.

Only after Sierra was gone did Jayce walk to the doorway.

He pulled the door almost shut before using his Superpower to hack Autumn Lynch’s body into several pieces.

Looking at the mangled corpse, Jayce was finally satisfied.

Of course, he didn’t have a habit of desecrating corpses.

He did it for two reasons. First, to avenge the Sierra of his previous life.

Autumn Lynch had killed Sierra in his past life. Simply letting her die like this was getting off too easy.

The second reason was also simple: to be safe.

What if Autumn Lynch had some kind of lucky break and came back to life after they left?

With her body this mangled, she wouldn’t have a chance to revive even if she wanted to.

’No!’

’It’s still not safe enough!’

Jayce thought for a moment, then opened the window and tossed some of the body parts out.

A body that had just died, still reeking of blood, was the perfect bait for Dunescrawlers.

The moment the pieces of the corpse hit the sandy ground, Dunescrawlers swarmed out of the sand and onto them.

The Dunescrawlers were as fast as ever. In the blink of an eye, they had devoured all the flesh, leaving only bones behind.

Seeing this, Jayce could finally rest easy.

Jayce didn’t look back at the room’s interior. He went to the door, opened it, and walked out, not forgetting to pull it shut behind him.

There was no one in the hallway, but he could hear voices coming from one of the apartments. Jayce followed the sound.

As soon as he reached the doorway, he saw Nathan Thorne frantically using his Healing Ability.

Lying side by side in front of him were four people with their eyes tightly shut.
