Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Even though they already knew what the situation was like outside, when they walked out of the master bedroom and were enveloped by the raging sandstorm, a few of them still showed a visible moment of panic.

The sandstorm was simply too intense. To avoid getting separated, they found a long rope and ran it from the front of the line to the back.

But this rope wasn’t tied directly to their bodies.

Each person had a smaller rope tied around them, with a clasp at one end that could be clipped directly onto the long main rope.

This way, everyone could stay connected without being bound too restrictively.

If something unexpected happened and one person couldn’t be saved, it wouldn’t drag everyone else down into a point of no return.

Sierra Sullivan was second in the line.

In front of her was Jayce.

They were right behind one another, the distance between them not even half a meter.

But even at such a close distance, Sierra Sullivan’s view of Jayce’s back was still a blur.

It seemed that if she lost focus for even a second, or if the distance between them grew just a little, she would lose sight of Jayce completely.

Not only was their vision obstructed, but they also had no way to talk to each other.

You could say that from the moment they stepped out of the master bedroom, although they looked like a team still walking together, the only person they could truly rely on at this point was themselves.

Because they couldn’t see clearly, their progress was incredibly slow.

After several minutes of walking, they finally made it out of the living room door and felt their way to the stairs.

The moment they touched the staircase, everyone, including Sierra Sullivan, breathed a sigh of relief.

With the stair railing to guide them, even if they couldn’t see the path, they knew which way to go.

Just straight down!

They didn’t have to worry about finding their way, so all they needed to watch out for was their surroundings and avoid being ambushed by Aberrant Beasts.

But fortunately, their luck was decent.

On their way down, they encountered a few Aberrant Beasts, but they were just scattered individuals with average attack power, so they were dealt with easily.

When they reached the bottom of the stairs and realized they were on the first floor, the group couldn’t help but tense up again.

Not far from the stairs was the building’s main entrance.

Even without clear sight, they could feel their way there.

But once outside the building entrance, they would be in a residential complex they didn’t know at all.

This residential complex was filled with zombies.

And because of this suddenly intensified storm, there was no telling how many mutated animals had been drawn here.

Just thinking about it was enough to know that the complex would be extremely dangerous.

But they had already come this far; turning back was out of the question.

No matter what dangers awaited them, all they could do now was brace themselves and press forward.

As Sierra Sullivan was thinking this, Jayce, who was in front of her, turned his head and gave her hand a firm squeeze.

No words were needed, not even a meeting of the eyes.

From that simple gesture alone, Sierra Sullivan understood his meaning.

The corners of Sierra Sullivan’s lips curled up as she gripped Jayce’s hand in return, giving it a slight squeeze to let him know she understood.

Jayce pulled his hand back, turned around, and continued to lead the way.

After they stepped out of the building’s entrance, the feeling changed again.

Whether it was in the living room with its broken windows or the sand-filled stairwell, the spaces had been relatively narrow.

But now, having walked out and away from the entrance, a glance around revealed only what was vaguely within an arm’s length.

Anything further was completely invisible.

Gazing around, the entire world had turned an earthy yellow.

If it weren’t for the long, taut rope at her side, which confirmed everyone was still there, Sierra Sullivan might have thought the only people left in the world were Jayce in front of her and Nathan Thorne behind her.

Before her eyes was a sky full of raging sand, and in her ears was the howling of the wind.

Beyond that, she couldn’t hear any other sound.

Even with people in front of and behind her, aside from vaguely seeing their shapes, she couldn’t hear a single sound from them.

In such an environment, although Sierra Sullivan wasn’t afraid, she couldn’t help but feel a little tense.

Just as she was about to continue forward, a sense of alarm suddenly rose in Sierra Sullivan’s heart.

It was a familiar sense of danger.

The subconscious reaction that came with impending peril.

Sierra Sullivan immediately used her Superpower to create a sand wall, relying on instinct to protect her group.

But as for how long their line was, Sierra Sullivan only had a vague idea, not a precise length.

Coupled with the urgency of the moment, it was completely understandable that she might not have managed to protect everyone.

Even though Sierra Sullivan was reborn, and even though her Superpower Level was relatively high, she was ultimately human, not a god. There was a limit to what she could do.

Amidst the immense roar of the wind, Sierra Sullivan didn’t hear any screams.

But the long, quiet rope at her side suddenly began to shake violently, and was even being forcefully dragged backward.

From this alone, she knew that something must have happened to someone at the back of the line.

With almost no hesitation, Sierra Sullivan, Jayce, and Nathan Thorne all made the same choice: they turned and ran toward the back of the line.

The people behind Nathan Thorne did the same.

Even though so many people were running together while tied to the same rope, they all ran in the same direction, so thankfully no accidents occurred.

Soon, the group arrived at the very end of the line.

There, they saw Dominic Crawford half-kneeling on the ground, holding a man in his arms.

The man’s goggles were shattered, and blood could be seen clearly flowing from them.

’He’s injured!’

’And his eyes might be hurt.’

"Nathan Thorne!" Sierra Sullivan hurriedly looked toward Nathan Thorne.

Among their group, only Nathan Thorne had a Healing Ability.

’If Nathan Thorne treats him, there might be a chance to save him.’

"I’m here!" Nathan Thorne responded, quickly walking over and crouching beside the man.

Seeing Nathan Thorne immediately get to work, Sierra Sullivan let out a small sigh of relief.

In a situation like this, all they could do was their best and leave the rest to fate.

But no matter what, having Nathan Thorne was better than not having him.

Without Nathan Thorne, the man would have simply been left to die.

In the current conditions, even if he didn’t bleed to death, he could still die from an infected wound.

Compared to the worst-case scenario, this situation was already much, much better.

Sierra Sullivan didn’t stare for long. She quickly averted her gaze and scanned their surroundings warily.

’The things that attacked us should be Two-Mouthed Birds.’

’These Two-Mouthed Birds are too fast. We have to be on guard every single moment.’

’Otherwise, the man lying on the ground right now is a warning of what’s to come!’

And reality turned out to be much as Sierra Sullivan had predicted.

Having had a taste of blood, the Two-Mouthed Birds came back for more, flapping their wings and charging in at lightning speed!
