"What’s going on?" Jayce’s expression grew serious. "Everything was fine, how did they suddenly get besieged? What’s the situation now? Do they have many Superpower Users? Can they hold on?"

Dawnlight Base was located right next to theirs, a mere ten kilometers apart.

Before the apocalypse, you could cover that ten-kilometer distance in just ten minutes.

But now, due to the road conditions, it took about an hour to get there.

An hour might sound long, but that was only for survivors like them, who struggled to travel.

For the Aberrant Beasts that roamed unimpeded through the post-apocalyptic world, a ten-kilometer distance was practically nothing.

If they decided to head this way, it probably wouldn’t even take them twenty minutes.

With Dawnlight Base under siege, their own base was now in a precarious position.

If they didn’t make plans soon, their base could be the next one to be besieged.

That was why Jayce, Kevin Everett, and the others all wore such grave expressions, their hearts heavy with anxiety.

"The specific reason for the siege isn’t clear yet; even Dawnlight Base can’t say for sure. They have far fewer Superpower Users than we do. Now that they’re surrounded, they’ll fall before long without reinforcements. When that happens, we, as the base right next to them, won’t meet a good end either."

The more Kevin Everett spoke, the deeper his frown became.

Everyone present understood what the word "reinforcements" implied.

It meant taking a huge risk to launch a surprise attack on the Aberrant Beasts from the rear.

It sounded simple, but in practice, it was fraught with danger.

Facing a tide of Aberrant Beasts, who could guarantee they would return safely?

But even knowing the danger, they had no choice but to go.

When the nest is overturned, how can any eggs remain intact?

Without Dawnlight Base, they would be the ones on the back foot.

The question now wasn’t *if* they should send aid to Dawnlight Base, but *who* would go.

Seeing that everyone was silent, General Aldridge spoke up.

"All right, stop with the long faces. We have to go, and the sooner, the better. I’ll head back now, gather my things, and lead my people over!"

True to his decisive nature, he immediately stood up after speaking, ready to leave.

Seeing this, Jayce immediately stood up as well. "General Aldridge, I’ll go with you."

He couldn’t just sit back and wait for disaster to strike.

At a time like this, Sierra Sullivan wasn’t about to feign ignorance. She quickly stood up too. "Me too. I’m going!"

Kevin Everett had known all along that the two of them would insist on going.

He wasn’t the least bit surprised to hear them say it.

But not being surprised was one thing; actually letting the two of them go was another matter entirely.

"You two..."

Before Kevin Everett could finish, Jayce looked over at him with a smile.

"Dad, don’t worry about us. We’ll go, and we’ll come back in one piece. Dawnlight Base will be fine, too!"

Coming from anyone else, such words might sound arrogant, even conceited.

But coming from Jayce’s lips, the feeling was completely different.

When someone with real power said something like that, it was simply reassuring.

Kevin Everett gave Jayce a long, hard look. "Remember what you said. Go, and come back safe! You too, Sierra Sullivan. You have to come back safe!"

Sierra Sullivan nodded. "We will!"

The words had barely been spoken when Candice Tate ran out from inside, rushing to Sierra Sullivan’s side. She hugged Sierra’s leg, looking up at her with tear-filled eyes. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Sierra!"

She didn’t say she didn’t want Sierra to go, but her expression made it clear that she didn’t.

After all, she was only a five-year-old child, and she saw Sierra as the person closest to her in the world.

Now that she knew Sierra was about to do something dangerous, her first instinct was to stop her from leaving.

But she wasn’t an ordinary child. She knew what should and shouldn’t be said.

So, no matter how reluctant she was to see her go, she didn’t say a word.

Sierra Sullivan knelt down and gently stroked Candice Tate’s cheek. "Candice, don’t cry. I’m just going out to fight some monsters. When I’m done, I’ll bring you back lots and lots of Crystal Cores, okay?"

Candice Tate’s tears fell like pearls from a broken string.

"I don’t want Crystal Cores! I just want you!"

"Okay," Sierra Sullivan nodded seriously. "Then I’ll come back safe and sound, and you can wait for me here, all right?"

"Okay!" Candice Tate held out her little hand. "You have to pinky promise with me! You can’t break it!"

Looking at Candice Tate’s soft, pale little hand, Sierra Sullivan smiled and linked her pinky with Candice’s.

’I have to keep my promise!’

’I will definitely come back safe!’

General Aldridge was a man of action and had already gone back to organize his people.

In addition to General Aldridge’s troops, Kevin Everett arranged for another team of about a hundred Superpower Users.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to send more people, but their forces were limited.

While the number of Superpower Users at the base had grown, the number of truly powerful combatants had not.

After all, not everyone was on the same level as Sierra Sullivan and Jayce.

On top of that, they had to keep some people behind to defend their own base.

The reason for Dawnlight Base’s siege was still unknown. All they could do for now was to protect their own base as best they could, reinforcing their defenses to avoid becoming the next Dawnlight Base.

Once the team was assembled, they wasted no time, immediately boarding their vehicles and heading for Dawnlight Base.

On the way, Sierra Sullivan noticed that the wind and sand were picking up.

The sickly yellow sky was unsettling, creating a baseless sense of oppression.

The number of Aberrant Beasts began to increase before they even got close to Dawnlight Base.

Aberrant Beasts were never passive creatures. The moment they spotted the humans, they launched an attack, lunging directly at the vehicles.

Faced with these Aberrant Beasts, Sierra Sullivan and the others showed no fear.

Even from inside the vehicles, dealing with them wasn’t a difficult task.

Everyone had ample combat experience and coordinated well with each other.

They dispatched the Aberrant Beasts quickly, and a Space Ability User collected the corpses to be processed later.

Everyone carried a pack filled with food, water, and Crystal Cores.

After each battle, they quickly ate to replenish their spent Superpower and stamina.

After all, they hadn’t reached the main battlefield yet. They needed to conserve their energy to better handle the fight to come.

They had heard that Dawnlight Base was besieged and expected the situation to be grim.

But when they saw it from a distance, Sierra Sullivan and the others still couldn’t help but gasp.

The scene was far grimmer than they had ever imagined.

The variety of species was bizarre and their forms diverse, but every single one had crimson eyes and radiated a murderous aura.

It was as if they were hell-bent on tearing Dawnlight Base to shreds.
