Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Even Sierra Sullivan felt a stir of anxiety as she watched the Aberrant Beasts surge toward them like a tidal wave.

’There are just too many of them!’

Plus, it was night, and the visibility was poor.

Even with high-powered flashlights, it was hard to get a clear view of their surroundings.

A single misstep could leave them vulnerable to a surprise attack from an Aberrant Beast materializing out of nowhere.

But things had come to this. No matter how nervous they were, there was no turning back.

All they could do now was face these Aberrant Beasts.

Fortunately, they had already devised a plan.

Now, watching the Aberrant Beasts charge, the group quickly spread out, each person taking their designated position.

There were far too many Aberrant Beasts; fighting them one-on-one was impossible.

There was no way their group of fifty-odd people could handle this; they didn’t have three heads and six arms.

A direct confrontation was out of the question. They had to outsmart them.

By combining their different Superpowers, they could unleash a force far greater than any single ability.

If they leveraged this synergy correctly, dealing with these Aberrant Beasts wouldn’t be an issue.

And the key to this plan was none other than Nathan Thorne.

Nathan Thorne was a Superpower User.

His Superpower Level wasn’t high—only Second Level—but his ability type was rather unique.

He possessed a Thunder Ability.

Sierra Sullivan had never even known such a Superpower existed.

’Then again, if a Space Ability can exist, it’s not that strange for a Thunder Element to exist too.’

And it was a good thing Nathan Thorne was of the Thunder Element; otherwise, some of their plans would be incredibly difficult to execute. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Jayce and several other Water Ability Users used their Superpowers at the same time.

A deluge of water surged through the air, crashing down upon the Aberrant Beasts.

At that moment, Nathan Thorne unleashed his Superpower.

Water can conduct electricity.

The clear water, now laced with electricity, flashed with a violet-blue light. It looked ethereal and carried an aura of immense danger.

As the water drenched the Aberrant Beasts, they were instantly electrocuted. The rich scent of seared flesh permeated the air.

The Aberrant Beasts were incredibly resilient. While the shock caused them immense pain, it wasn’t enough to kill them instantly.

But that didn’t matter.

Sierra Sullivan and the others hadn’t expected to kill them this way.

All they needed was to slow the Aberrant Beasts’ movements.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Sierra Sullivan had already condensed countless Sand Arrows.

The Gold Ability Users also condensed a multitude of arrows that glinted with a metallic luster.

The arrows shot toward the Aberrant Beasts, piercing their bodies before they could even react.

It all happened faster than it takes to tell. The entire exchange was over in a minute or two.

The horde of Aberrant Beasts, which had been roaring moments before, was now more than half dead.

The remaining few were no longer a threat.

They repeated the process and wiped out the rest.

When the last Aberrant Beast lay motionless on the ground, Nathan Thorne finally let out the breath he’d been holding.

"Finally! They’re all dead!"

Watching him heave a sigh of relief, Sierra Sullivan, though not wanting to burst his bubble, still said, "It’s too early to relax."

’We’ve barely gotten started!’

’We haven’t even reached the main gate of the base yet!’

’The number of Aberrant Beasts at the main gate is practically endless.’

’Only after we deal with them can we say Dawnlight Base is safe for now.’

Hearing Sierra Sullivan’s words, the smile vanished from Nathan Thorne’s face.

"You really are something... Can’t you let me be happy for a little while?"

’Did she have to be such a buzzkill?’

"I’m not trying to be a buzzkill. I’m just giving you a heads-up so you don’t get carried away. I’d hate for your celebration to turn into a tragedy!"

He didn’t want to admit it, but he had to: Sierra Sullivan had a point.

"I can’t win an argument with you!"

Nathan Thorne huffed and turned his head away.

"Alright, that’s enough from both of you," Jayce mediated with a helpless sigh. "Use this time to recover your Superpowers. If you’re hungry, eat something. If not, start digging out the Crystal Cores. We’ve got a long night ahead of us!"

Hearing Jayce talk about the mission, Sierra Sullivan stopped bickering with Nathan Thorne.

Ten minutes later, with the cleanup finished, the group wasted no more time and continued toward the base’s main gate.

The closer they got to the base, the more numerous the Aberrant Beasts became.

Fortunately, Sierra Sullivan’s group now had experience. They just needed to coordinate and repeat what they had done before.

The saying "practice makes perfect" was certainly true.

With each repetition, they grew more experienced and made subtle adjustments to their strategy.

Their goal was to kill the Aberrant Beasts while taking zero casualties.

It sounded difficult, and indeed, it wasn’t easy to pull off.

Throughout the night, Sierra Sullivan didn’t even feel the passage of time.

All she remembered was the endless repetition.

By the end, every move had become muscle memory.

The sky was beginning to lighten by the time the battle finally drew to a close.

Most of the Aberrant Beasts were killed by Sierra Sullivan and her group.

Although some remained, they no longer posed any threat.

These particular Aberrant Beasts weren’t so persistent. Seeing their comrades slaughtered, some had the sense to cut their losses and retreat.

As the last of the Aberrant Beasts retreated, the gates of Dawnlight Base opened. General Aldridge and Trevor Thorne emerged with a team to begin clearing the battlefield.

General Aldridge walked up to Sierra Sullivan’s group, his face filled with relief and admiration.

"Well done! You’re all incredible!"

Trevor Thorne’s face was flushed with excitement. "Thank God for you! If it weren’t for you, I’m not sure we could have saved Dawnlight Base! On behalf of all the survivors in Dawnlight Base, I thank you!"

"You’re too kind, Commander Thorne. The credit isn’t ours alone. You all did a great deal, and Nathan Thorne’s contribution was immense."

This wasn’t flattery or mere politeness; it was the simple truth.

Nathan Thorne had indeed played a crucial role.

Without his Thunder Ability, dealing with those Aberrant Beasts wouldn’t have been nearly so easy.

Hearing Sierra Sullivan’s earnest praise, Nathan Thorne’s face flushed slightly.

"I wasn’t as important as you say. If you really want to thank someone, you should thank Jayce."

Relying solely on his Thunder Ability, he couldn’t have dealt with so many Aberrant Beasts at once.

It was because of Jayce’s Water Ability that they could launch a group attack.

When Trevor Thorne heard his son’s words, he looked at Nathan with a mixture of surprise and relief.

’Is this really my son?’

’I haven’t seen him for just one night, and he’s learned humility!’

’Not only is he humble, but he can also recognize others’ strengths and praise them sincerely!’

’This truly... warms an old man’s heart!’

General Aldridge laughed heartily. "Alright, alright! We know you all worked well together. You’re all fine young people! You’ve been at it all night and must be exhausted. Don’t worry about the rest. Go back and get some proper sleep! We can discuss everything else after you’ve rested."
