Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

"Huh?"

Nathan Thorne’s eyes widened as he stared at Sierra Sullivan.

"So that’s how it is?"

Sierra Sullivan shook her head. "I’m not sure about the specifics. It’s just a guess..."

"I think your guess is very reasonable!" Nathan Thorne said hurriedly.

The words tumbled out of his mouth too fast. By the time he regretted saying it, several seconds had already passed.

Nathan Thorne rubbed his nose and turned his head to the side.

’When will I ever learn to think before I speak!’

While the two were talking, General Aldridge had already led a number of Superpower Users forward to start dealing with the Aberrant Beasts outside.

The Superpower Users who came this time were all battle-hardened. They were not only experienced but also bold and meticulous.

General Aldridge divided the people into two groups. He planned to lead one group into battle.

Once their Superpowers were nearly depleted, the second group would take over.

Sierra Sullivan and Jayce were in charge of the second group.

Nathan Thorne had also been assigned to the second group by his father; otherwise, he wouldn’t have had the time or energy to be chatting with Sierra Sullivan here.

It seemed like idle chatter, a simple back-and-forth.

But by the end of it, Sierra Sullivan had learned everything she wanted to know.

Nathan Thorne, however, had a dazed expression on his face.

’We seemed to have talked a lot just now, right?’

’But why can’t I remember any of it?’

Nathan Thorne looked at Sierra Sullivan with a very complicated expression. "Just now, you—"

Sierra Sullivan suddenly turned her head. "General Aldridge is calling us over!"

"What General Aldridge!" Nathan Thorne didn’t believe her. Sierra Sullivan was definitely trying to change the subject.

’How could General Aldridge so coincidentally call for them at this exact moment?’

Though he didn’t believe it in his heart, Nathan Thorne still looked in General Aldridge’s direction.

He saw that General Aldridge was indeed looking their way, his expression incredibly grim.

Sierra Sullivan and Jayce were already in front of General Aldridge, talking to him.

Nathan Thorne was silent for a moment before he walked over.

"So it really was the General calling..."

He muttered this as he walked up to them.

"There are too many Aberrant Beasts. Just holding them back here won’t work. We might really get overwhelmed." General Aldridge’s voice had become much more serious. "We need to think of another way."

Hearing this, Nathan Thorne couldn’t spare a thought for anything else. He just stared at General Aldridge expectantly. "What other way?"

With so many Aberrant Beasts guarding the outside of the base, they couldn’t even escape if they wanted to.

In this situation, leaving the base was impossible. What other way could there possibly be?

General Aldridge looked at Nathan Thorne. "Is this the only exit to this base?"

"Of course not!" Nathan Thorne immediately shook his head.

A community this large had eight or nine gates, big and small.

The one they were at now was the main gate.

"Since there are other gates, find one without Aberrant Beasts, get out, and then..."

Nathan Thorne’s expression became conflicted and a little embarrassed. "General Aldridge, it’s not that I’m trying to make excuses. It’s just that those gates... they’ve all been sealed shut."

The number of Aberrant Beasts increased daily, and they would harass the base from time to time.

Before General Aldridge could say anything, Nathan Thorne had already reached out, grabbing Sierra Sullivan’s arm with one hand and Jayce’s with the other.

"You two, stop wasting time! Time is life! Let’s go, now!"

Being dragged along, they stumbled with every step.

Dawnlight Community was huge.

To be precise, it was a whole neighborhood.

There were roads inside wide enough for cars.

The roads were two-way, and they were lined with all sorts of shops.

Before the apocalypse, living in a neighborhood like this would have been incredibly convenient.

You could get everything you needed for daily life without ever leaving.

But now, after the apocalypse, the sand and wind were so strong that walking was truly arduous.

The three of them walked in front, followed by fifty Superpower Users.

Since they were going to break out from another direction, they certainly couldn’t rely on just the three of them.

Nathan Thorne was anxious and did his best to walk quickly the whole way.

But due to the state of the roads and the surrounding environment, it was half an hour later by the time they reached a side gate.

"This was originally a side gate," Nathan Thorne explained. "Pedestrians and electric scooters could pass through. Outside is a small path that leads to the main road after a turn."

Hearing Nathan Thorne’s words, Sierra Sullivan nodded. "Then let’s begin."

This gate was also sealed with a wire mesh fence.

For a Gold Ability User, creating an opening in this kind of wire mesh wasn’t a difficult task.

With two Gold Ability Users working together, the speed was even faster.

Before long, an opening appeared in the airtight wire mesh.

It was large enough for one person to walk through.

Jayce held a high-powered flashlight, keeping its beam fixed on the outside.

Almost as soon as they appeared on the main road, they saw the endless army of Aberrant Beasts.

Before they could make a move, the Aberrant Beasts had already spotted them. A number of them turned to look in their direction.

The enraged Aberrant Beasts saw the humans like they saw food.

With a roar, they charged straight toward them.

Sierra Sullivan and the others did not retreat.

When they chose to leave the base, they had already made all the necessary preparations.

Even the somewhat unreliable Nathan Thorne was now poised and ready for battle.

They and these Aberrant Beasts would settle things tonight!

"Everyone, be careful! Give it your all! Tomorrow morning, we’ll feast together!" Jayce shouted to boost morale.
