Naturally, Sophia was not pleased by Rina’s words, as even an emotionless person could be provoked by Rina’s tone, which was extremely piercing. Rina was the type of person whose laughter was shrill and mocking, causing even the calmest to become filled with fury.
Still, she prioritized the task her father gave her and decided not to get into hostilities with Kaizer’s sister. This forbearance made Rina adopt a bored expression, realizing that she likely wouldn’t be able to easily provoke this girl. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"Alright, enough of that. You have met your squad, so it’s time for you all to deploy, as we are on the clock. Lock and load!" Commander Briggs interrupted them before they could become distracted.
The squad moved silently, grabbing their items and supplies before heading toward the hangar under the guidance of the adjutants on the base. The military aircraft waiting for them was a sleek, black VTOL transport that looked like the stealth plane from the X-Men, of which Kaizer couldn’t recall the name.
The ground crew in dark uniforms ran final checks, their voices sharp over the radio as they cleared the runway for takeoff.
Kaizer climbed up first, stepping into the dimly lit interior of the plane, noting that the inside was tight but well-equipped with rows of seats lining the walls, racks of weapons secured in place, and red overhead lighting casting long shadows.
Maria and Julia took seats near the front, strapping in with casual ease, while Sophia sat stiffly near the middle, arms crossed and lips curled into a frown. Rina, as expected, dropped into the seat next to Kaizer, stretching her arms over her head in a lazy manner.
Commander Briggs stood at the entrance of the plane, not boarding along with them as he gave them a firm nod. "Your drop point is just outside the city of Al-Rafid. Once you’re in, follow mission parameters. As for extraction, you’ll handle that yourselves as you have the means to return."
Kaizer gave a brief nod in return. "Understood."
With a final scan of the group with his sharp eyes, Commander Briggs stepped back, and the VTOL’s doors sealed shut. The engines roared with nearly invisible waves of force as the aircraft lifted off, pushing them slightly against their seats.
Through the small windows on the plane that were invisible from the outside, the group could see the base shrink beneath them rapidly, becoming just another fixture on the land below.
The flight was long but quiet despite the kind of crew Kaizer had.
Rina had closed her eyes and was muttering to herself, likely chatting with Anir, who occupied a part of her consciousness.
Maria twirled a knife between her fingers, her fiery eyes glinting with anticipation to prove herself to Kaizer in the capacity of a follower. Julia leaned back with her arms crossed, her icy breath fogging the air, making the area even colder than it already was.
Sophia, ever silent, simply stared ahead, her thoughts inscrutable as the Dean had likely taught her methods to prevent intrusion from telepaths.
Rina opened her eyes, her conversation with Anir done, as she decided to entertain herself by poking at Kaizer’s arm.
"So, team leader, feeling the pressure yet?" she teased.
Kaizer, who was folding his arms and had closed his eyes to scan the area around the plane for interception attacks, responded casually. "Not really, it’s impossible for us to fail given our lineup."
Rina rolled her eyes and sighed dramatically. "You’re no fun."
Before she could pester him further, the pilot’s voice crackled through their earpieces.
"ETA to drop zone, five minutes."
The squad quickly checked their items, tested their suits, and made last-minute adjustments as necessary, eventually unstrapping from their seats and moving to the rear of the aircraft.
The cargo bay doors slowly opened, revealing the night sky that was darker than what Kaizer and Rina were used to, being city dwellers.
Below, the city of Al-Rafid sprawled out in the distance, the many golden lights flickering between patches of darkness due to the electricity that was provided by the nearby power station.
The wind roared past them, but none of them seemed nervous or fazed because of the one who stepped forward!
Kaizer glanced downwards from the edge of the rear, his eyes glowing faintly with psychic power.
"Hold on," Kaizer said casually.
The rest of the squad braced as an invisible force wrapped around their bodies, lifting them off the metallic flooring of the plane and bringing them to the edge with Kaizer.
In the next moment, Kaizer floated out of the plane along with his squad, the rear closing up behind him as he telekinetically pressed the switch, saving the pilot effort.
The wind at this altitude was quite intense, howling around them as they plummeted at impressive speeds that could make even skydivers feel apprehension.
However, Kaizer’s telekinesis easily held firm against the force of gravity acting upon them, controlling their descent and going faster and faster.
To be honest, they weren’t really falling; they were actually flying downwards at a fast speed. Transvection was too hostile to forces like inertia, momentum, and gravity, not following any of their rules at all.
Rather than calling it flight, you could imagine Transvection as forming a bubble around a person and then moving underwater.
As they neared the ground, Kaizer slowed their momentum, guiding them into the shadowed outskirts of the city, their tactical boots touching down without a sound.
However, just because they were silent did not mean that the area had to be. Interestingly, the group noticed immediately through their sound receptors in their helmets that within the compound house, which they had landed behind, there was a sound that none of them could mistake as to what it signified.
"There are reproductive activities going on inside this house," Sophia reported, almost making the group retort with the Captain Obvious line.
"Let’s move. We have to secure a safehouse for the night and scout the area near our target location before drawing up a plan of attack." Kaizer stated the task at hand before lifting the entire group slightly off the ground with telekinesis and bringing them along.
With his Telesthesia now reaching a radius of 380 meters around his body in all directions like a sphere—even underground—he was like a fish in water as he navigated through the small Al-Rafid using both his psychic domain and the GPS from the tactical helmet.
The squad moved through the narrow, dimly lit alleys of Al-Rafid, their footsteps silent against the uneven pavement. The city was still alive despite the hour, with small crowds gathered around food stalls and murmured conversations in local dialects drifting through the air.
Within minutes, they found a house near the outskirts, one that was an abandoned two-story structure made of beige concrete, its windows covered in dust and sand. It wasn’t much, but the location was ideal since it had multiple exit points, decent elevation for surveillance, and, most importantly, it was off the radar.
Kaizer looked upwards at it. "We take this one."
No objections from his squad members as all of them believed in his power and his potential.
Julia and Maria moved to secure the perimeter, checking for hidden threats or surveillance equipment.
Sophia took out a compact device and ran a frequency scan, ensuring no unseen communications were active in the vicinity.
Rina, naturally, did nothing but yawn and watch Kaizer as though he were a show she had seen a thousand times but still found entertaining.
Once they cleared the house, the squad set down their minimal supplies, and just like that, the house was claimed.
The moment they secured the house, an unspoken war began.
Kaizer, completely indifferent, removed his tactical helmet and placed it on a nearby wooden table before pulling out the mission brief from his gear. However, the three women in the room had a completely different priority.
The question of sleeping arrangements hung in the air like a cold war waiting to explode.
"We should establish a guard rotation for the night, and standard two-hour shifts should suffice," Sophia stated, her voice neutral as ever.
Maria scoffed. "No need for all that. No one’s finding us in this hole. We should be resting properly."
Did this little wench expect her, the great Sadistic Flame, to lose her beauty sleep?
"And where do you suggest everyone sleeps?" Julia asked coolly, already seeing where this was going.
Maria grinned and stretched, her toned form relaxed but her eyes sharp. "Simple. We should stick together. No need for separation."
Sophia narrowed her gaze ever so slightly. "You mean you want to sleep near Kaizer?"
Maria didn’t even bother to deny it. "Of course. I’m a follower, aren’t I? It only makes sense that I stay close to the one I follow."
Julia exhaled sharply, shaking her head. "I was going to suggest sleeping in separate rooms, but apparently, we’re dealing with children."
Sophia crossed her arms. "If staying close is the argument, then as the one my father assigned to assist Kaizer, I should have priority. It’s a matter of security."
"Hahaha!" Maria let out a shrill, mocking laugh.
"Your dad sent you to observe him, not protect him. The strongest esper here is Kaizer himself. You’re not guarding him, he’s guarding you." Maria pointed out brutally.
Sophia didn’t respond, but the slight twitch in her fingers showed that she was irritated.
Kaizer, flipping through the mission brief, pretended not to hear a single word of this nonsense.
Then, Rina finally stepped in.
She walked toward Kaizer, placed both hands on his shoulders, and leaned down slightly, her voice dripping with mockery and amusement.
"Look at all of you, like stray cats fighting over the last warm spot on a rooftop," she sighed dramatically, shaking her head with pity for the incapable.
Julia scowled. "And let me guess, you have the perfect argument for why you should sleep next to him?"
Rina smirked and made the Super Vegeta pose, wearing the same expression of superiority as the prince. "Of course. Because I’m his sister."
Silence.
Sophia, Maria, and Julia all looked at her like they had just been slapped across the face.
Rina stretched her arms lazily and gave them an utterly victorious expression, as if looking down on them from a higher position.
"Face it, there’s no counter to that. I win," she continued, her voice absolutely smug.
Maria looked visibly offended. "That’s bullshit."
Sophia exhaled sharply, clearly restraining herself. "This is irrational."
Julia just shook her head. "Of course you’d pull the ’family’ card."
"Of course I would," Rina said sweetly, flashing them all a smile so infuriatingly smug that it could start a war.
Kaizer, who had been completely ignoring all of them, finally spoke.
"Rina takes priority," he stated bluntly, not interested in creating misunderstandings.
It was best to let them all know now, ahead of time, that no matter how they personally felt, they would never match up to 1% of Rina’s value in his heart. If they still decided to pursue this dead-end, then it was up to them.
Maria clicked her tongue, clearly not giving up. "Tch, fine. But next time, I’m calling dibs first."
Sophia, without another word, simply walked away and found her own spot, her expression inscrutable.
Julia sighed, giving Rina a look of pure irritation before doing the same.
Rina stretched out next to Kaizer, grinning in satisfaction.
