Psychic Overlord

Spacetime.

It was one of the theorized Six Paths of the Mind that Kaizer developed, and was something he personally was looking forward to unlocking because of its sheer power and utility. Look at the Dean, and look at Sophia, able to be virtually immune from danger as they could enter the void and even come and go as they pleased.

The Dean even developed a plan for the six paths of the mind, emphasizing that Kaizer should focus on unlocking elemental control and mastering the fire, water, and wind elements before moving on to Channeling.

Spacetime was the last thing on his plate, and the Dean even developed a detailed plan involving personal training to help Kaizer master it, involving himself and Sophia, which was why he even connected his daughter with Kaizer.

Who could have thought that before the relatively simple elemental control and the slightly harder channeling, the first thing out of the remaining three paths of the mind that Kaizer had yet to access would be spacetime?

Time seemed to slow down greatly in the area around the crash, causing everything to move in slow motion. The train was falling slowly, so too were the people, the expression of fear still on their faces.

In this world of slowed time, Kaizer alone was able to move, and he did not have any delusions of grandeur in terms of resolving the situation with his own power. He had bought himself the time he needed, so he opened the box he brought with him and swallowed one of the healing pills before taking out the black talisman and activating it as the Dean taught him.

Immediately, the Dean walked out of mid-air with his cane in hand, his body tense and alert. When he sensed the surroundings, his pupils constricted as he glanced at his pupil who was rapidly losing consciousness due to the force exerted and sighed.

Immediately, Sophia walked out of the void beside the Dean, her expression slightly serious.

"Father, you’re here." She greeted with palpable relief.

Dean Rochester smiled at his daughter and nodded. "Yes, Sophia dear, I have come. Help me resolve this situation, please."

Sophia nodded. "Of course, father, I will follow your lead."

The Dean took a step forward and pointed out with his cane, causing every single person falling or still trapped within the train to enter the void and be teleported to the locomotive’s next destination.

Once the people were dealt with, the Dean simply moved the entire train back up to the nearest piece of intact rail track and left it there for the government to deal with. Meanwhile, Sophia had long teleported along with the victims and appeared on the other side to handle damage control and esper information suppression.

Meanwhile, Dean Rochester focused on the unconscious Kaizer and Rina who floated over in a cloud of death energy, her eyes only on her brother.

"Kaizer!" Rina called out in a panic.

She looked up to the Dean with pleading eyes. "Please help him, Sir!"

Dean Rochester smiled gently. "No need to call me sir, just call me Grandpa William. Also, there is nothing seriously wrong with your brother, he just overused his power like that first night versus Carla. He will be fine with some rest."

Rina sighed with relief and relaxed greatly.

Then she too, collapsed into unconsciousness from fatigue as she had overused her death energy, especially in holding up the train, which was definitely not what Death Energy was meant to do.

Dean Rochester glanced at the sibling duo and sighed, looking upward. His smile disappeared slowly and was replaced with such coldness that anyone looking at this scene would feel a definite chill in their hearts.

Kaizer’s eyes shot open as his mind came to all at once, a perk of being a psychic.

The ceiling above was white, coated with the faint flicker of sunlight seeping through mechanized blinds. The familiar sterile scent of antiseptics clung to the air while the rhythmic beep-beep of a nearby monitor filled the otherwise quiet room.

Kaizer exhaled slowly, closing his eyes in relief as he was alive. He relaxed into his bedding, but then tensed, fearing that an attack would suddenly come... then smiled bitterly when he realized he might have developed some slight trauma.

He winced as sensations came online and he realized that his body ached. It wasn’t really a sharp pain, but a dull fatigue that clung to every nerve, making every breath feel like he was lifting weights.

Kaizer tried to sit up, only for a gentle hand to press against his shoulder causing him alarm as he realized his telesthesia hadn’t been active all this while.

"Ah, ah, ah... not so fast, sleepyhead." The voice was soft, teasing.

Kaizer turned his head toward the source, seeing a tall woman in a fitted lab coat. Her striking green hair was tied into a loose braid, a few strands curling over her shoulder while a pair of thin, silver-rimmed glasses perched on her nose, her emerald eyes studying him with amused scrutiny.

She held a digital clipboard in one hand, the other still resting against his shoulder.

"A good morning to you too, Kaizer," She said, grinning.

"Or should I say, hero of the Alpha Line Disaster?" She added with a tap of her lip.

"...Where am I?" Kaizer asked, his voice a lot more cracked than he expected.

"Esper Academy Infirmary," the woman answered simply, brushing back her hair.

She glanced at her clipboard slightly. "You’ve been out for about a day and a half. Rina’s in the waiting room and Sophia’s fine, she’s already back to work with her father. You, though? You burned through more mental energy than I thought was possible."

She tilted her head and looked down at him with a strange smile.

"But then again, you seem to make a habit of defying expectations."

Kaizer blinked slowly, absorbing her words, feeling relief that Rina was okay.

He swallowed with difficulty, realizing that his throat was dry. "You’re... the Academy doctor?"

"Technically, I’m the Head of the Medical Division and one of your instructors, but yes, I do handle checkups too. Especially when a certain overachieving student nearly dies doing something outrageous." She leaned forward with a conspiratorial wink.

"I told the Dean not to push you into heavy tasks so soon, but does he ever listen? Of course not."

Kaizer looked at her more clearly now. Her demeanor was lighthearted, but the aura she gave off was unmistakably sharp, like that of a top A-Class Esper for sure.

She extended a hand. "Doctor Lysandra Mores, but you can call me Lys. All my students do."

Kaizer shook her hand with telekinesis as he was too weak to do otherwise. Despite this, he noted that her grip was warm but firm, and she pulled away with a raised eyebrow before tapping her clipboard.

"Vitals are good. Your brainwaves are stabilizing, which is a miracle considering you froze time for nearly ten seconds." She paused, then looked at him over her glasses.

She chuckled. "Did you know that only two known espers have ever done that at your age? One’s in the Supreme Force. The other’s sitting right across from you."

Kaizer raised a brow in surprise, remembering that he did stop time but not understanding how a doctor with what should be medical abilities could also do the same. Unless her healing ability was time reversal or something?

As if she could read his thoughts, Lys smiled slyly. "Spacetime manipulation isn’t just hard, it’s also dangerous, so you’re lucky your mind didn’t collapse under the strain. Your psychic power is adapting faster than any case I’ve seen in twenty years. But..."

She swiped to another chart, her tone turning serious and stern. "You need rest and you need dedicated training as this attack pushed you too far."

Kaizer closed his eyes briefly. "I didn’t have a choice."

"I know," Lys said quietly, and her voice lost all teasing.

"Which is exactly why you need to become strong enough to never have to make those kinds of choices again." She added as she stood, walking to the counter.

A steaming cup of something herbal appeared beside her hand as if she had pulled it out of nowhere.

"Oh, and one more thing, The Dean’s left a new message for you," She said as she handed him the drink.

Kaizer took the cup and sipped with a controlled expression, trying his hardest not to cringe from the bitterness. "...What message?" 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"You are to head to his office where he will tell you everything you need to know... and more." Lys said this with a pointed look and shook her head.

The woman turned to leave. "Well, you seem to be doing fine and a few more hours of rest and optimal nutrition should be able to get you back on your way."

She paused and hesitated before turning around. "And my personal advice? Go see your sister. The look on her face is something I’ve seen before, and with her power, she might walk down a very dark path if you don’t pull her back."
