Kaizer’s intense blue eyes narrowed as he understood immediately which group the dean was talking about, because he had only encountered esper-related forces before his time in the academy, and there was only one group who could be described as troublemakers.

"What do they want with Rina?" Kaizer asked seriously, not understanding what his sister had to do with this.

"Drake’s power was special. Unlike the rest of us who have a chance to awaken esper powers based on our ancestry as well as various other stimuli, he awoke his powers from birth. It was this way for him, and so too was it for his mother, his grandfather, his great-grandfather, and so on," Dean Rochester answered.

"So Rina’s powers are guaranteed to awaken in the next generation, with the exact same death power? Does it go to only one child, or can multiple inherit it?" Kaizer inquired astutely.

Dean Rochester shook his head. "Only one child. This is both a rule and limitation, in the sense that no matter whether male or female, nor the number of partners, the esper who holds that power can only give birth to one child in their lifetime."

Kaizer remained silent, very pensive. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

The Dean tapped the table slightly. "I only know that your sister’s power comes from a very ancient and powerful source, which is why its rules are strict and its power great. Because of that, many factions over the centuries have coveted her bloodline, either through marriage, kidnapping, or in this case, contract."

"One of her and Drake’s ancestors made an agreement to sell their descendant of the 10th generation to the Ancients, who will fit into their grand plan to usher in an age of prosperity for espers and wipe out all non-espers," the Dean added.

Kaizer frowned deeply. "Are they stupid? Even if only espers were alive, what’s the guarantee that a child between two espers will not be a non-esper?"

Dean Rochester smiled bitterly. "If you ask me, who should I ask? Reason and logic are the farthest things from the mind of a person who joins such a destructive cult. This was also the problem with Rina’s ancestry."

"Not all of them grew up under the same circumstances, so naturally, their worldviews would vary. Some were protectors of non-espers, and some were people who wished to destroy the world. Unfortunately, Rina’s ancestor was like that, joining the Ancients of that year and giving them great power over the world."

Kaizer was confused. "If you know all this, then why didn’t you caution Drake?"

Dean Rochester sighed. "I only found this out after my student was kidnapped, and I used my power to brutally overturn the entire esper society to find him. People called me the second strongest esper in the world after Drake but were not sure of my rank."

A cold light flashed in the dean’s eyes. "Let’s just say in that year after Drake disappeared, the chaos that should have erupted was stifled in the cradle due to my actions."

Kaizer was silent. If Rina were to suddenly disappear, he too would not care about limitations or his own code; he would surely overturn the world with far less discretion compared to the dean.

"Just take note of this. I have already warned Sylvia to protect your sister very closely because I fear the carnage you would cause if your little lover were ever to suffer harm," Dean Rochester stated, regaining his smile.

Kaizer’s face changed slightly. "You..."

Dean Rochester chuckled with superiority. "What, you think I couldn’t tell? I am aware you two share not a drop of blood relation and are only related by adoption, and given your youthful ages, it is natural for you to be smitten with each other."

"Not to mention, anyone can see the love in her eyes when she looks at you. The only one who is hard to read is you, but I figure you are not too averse to it," the Dean added with a coy smile.

Kaizer wisely chose to remain silent, which made the Dean give up on this trail of conversation.

His expression became serious as he leaned forward slightly. "On to important things. As my student, I promise to devote my time to train you until you become the strongest esper like Drake, but for a different purpose."

"He suppressed the esper world as part of the Supreme Force under my recommendation, bringing in an era of peace that promoted our current social and technological development. His main utility was fear and carnage against those who refused to follow the orders of the Supreme Force, which had its drawbacks."

The Dean pointed to Kaizer with a smile. "You, however, will be different. Slaughter and killing don’t seem to be your thing based on my profile of you, so you have to choose a different path that fits your abilities."

"With Telepathy, Telesthesia, and Telekinesis, you will be a combat god who is near omniscient, knowing everything about those around you as well as all the plans and tricks of your enemies. Just thinking about it fills me with trepidation on behalf of those who cross you."

Dean Rochester leaned back and took his teacup once more. "But that is for later. First, we must develop your abilities with the goal of not only achieving your peak ability, but also merging them together to create a systematic whole."

"For your first year, our main goal is to train your abilities in detection, combat, and deduction. This year will probably be your hardest and most tiring because I will establish an extremely taxing training regime day by day that will push you to your limit."

Dean Rochester sighed. "I know you will hate me for it later, but I will tell you right now, it is done for your own good. Some of the best combat talents take up to 3 to 4 years to hone their abilities, even with practical training, so for you to squeeze that into one year requires stepping above the usual limits."

Kaizer nodded. "I understand."

Dean Rochester looked at him strangely. "Do you now? I really hope you can say that later."

The Dean checked his pocket watch to ascertain the time. "First things first, let’s arrange your miscellaneous matters."

With a tap of his foot, both Kaizer and he disappeared from the office and appeared within the sky above the academy, overlooking the entire expanse from high up. While Dean Rochester remained airborne, Kaizer slightly panicked and covered himself with telekinesis to keep himself up.

"Hmm, quite stable. Your telekinetic ability has been trained already, hasn’t it? Very proactive of you," Dean Rochester commented with approval.

"Well, Sylvia gave you the lowdown of the academy, so here’s an overview. Choose where you want to stay, and I will arrange it for you," Dean Rochester said casually as he pointed at the expansive residential area which took up 75% of the school’s property.

Kaizer was left speechless at the variety. There were cottages in forest areas for those who liked solitude, condominiums for those on a budget, self-contained houses for those who wanted their own property, villas for those who had the funds, and even castles for those who were into it.

"I will stay with Rina, so wherever she chooses is fine," Kaizer said placidly.

"Hoh? Heh." Dean Rochester gave Kaizer a playful look and made annoying noises as if he understood something, causing Kaizer’s eyelid to twitch.

"Anyway, you may freely attend the public classes for your year as knowledge is power. You are also free to come and go from the school at all times and can arrange your own missions from the esper commission. However, you must take one A-class mission every month or one B-class mission every week."

Dean Rochester took them back to his office. "I have reserved Training Room number 1 in the Training Center of the academy, which is near the Lecture Theater Block. Make sure you are there by 9 a.m. every morning for your daily practice. You will close at 5 p.m. and will be free to do what you want afterward, including missions and extracurriculars."

Kaizer’s face changed slightly at that. "You mean even if I have an A-class mission, I have to pause halfway to return to the school from wherever I am to train?"

Dean Rochester smirked cruelly. "Exactly so, dear boy. You are free to flout the rules, but at the end of every month, I will compile every second you are late and add it to your regime for the next month. Don’t think you can hide; I have many ways to capture you and make sure you face your punishment."

"The road to the top is paved with either your own blood, sweat, and tears or the corpses of those who stood in your way, sometimes both," Dean Rochester added with a slightly kinder expression, seeing how ugly Kaizer’s face became.
