Psychic Overlord

As the echoes of Eleanor’s stifling power faded from the arena and the last traces of her ancient glyphs faded out of existence, the air took on a different tone, one that was colder, sharper, utterly precise.

The screens shifted once more, illuminating the next match in clean platinum font.

[Match 4: Lucian Vale "Judgment" (S-Class – Swords of Light) vs. Karos D’Venn (A-Class – Whip of Echoes)]

Lysandra’s voice returned, now with the reverence of a courtroom clerk reading a sentence aloud.

"Stepping forward... the blade of purity, the wielder of divine retribution... Lucian Vale, codename: Judgment!"

Lucian emerged soundlessly from the corridor, long white combat coat trailing behind him like a ceremonial robe while his silver hair glinted under the spotlights. His expression was blank, unreadable, almost bored.

He did not wave to the crowd nor did he acknowledge the cameras.

He merely walked and the arena grew quieter with each step.

Across from him, Karos D’Venn stood ready. The fellow was a tall young man that was cloaked in black and indigo combat robes, a chain whip of condensed sonic energy wrapped loosely around his shoulders. His eyes were calm, but there was a flicker of tension in his clenched jaw.

"Contestant Lucian Vale, esper alias Judgment. Rating: S-Class. Ability: Swords of Light. Precision offense type," Lysandra stated clearly.

"And facing him... Karos D’Venn. A-Class. Ability: Whip of Echoes. A resonance-based weapon that channels kinetic and sound energy through focused strikes."

Lucian drew one glowing hilt from his back, a sword of pure white light forming with an almost inaudible hum, vibrating just beyond the human hearing range.

DING!

"Begin!" Lysandra announced.

Karos didn’t hesitate as he was smart enough to know that against Lucian, hesitation was death.

With a shout, he spun his whip outward, unleashing a flurry of echoing strikes across the entire field, each crack of the whip bouncing off the floor and air like a ripple through water.

He didn’t aim for Lucian directly but rather aimed to control the space, creating zones of pressure and ricochets that would limit movement, trying to catch the elusive swordsman in a cornered field.

It was a brilliant plan, but too bad it didn’t matter.

Lucian vanished with a ’flick’ sound and reappeared behind Karos.

The whip snapped toward him reflexively, but missed.

A thin line of light shimmered mid-air as if time had paused to acknowledge the strike that never came.

Karos froze mid-spin.

BZZZMM!

A line of light sliced through his gauntlet.

His whip was severed, falling in two pieces on either side.

Karos turned slowly, eyes wide.

Lucian didn’t even look at him as his second sword — one none of them had seen him draw — vanished in a quiet flicker of white.

Karos dropped to one knee, sweat trailing down his face, his weapon gone and his aura broken. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

The young man didn’t even try to speak given what he had just experienced.

He just raised one hand... and tapped the ground in surrender.

DING!

"Winner: Lucian Vale, codename Judgment." Lysandra’s voice echoed like a verdict passed.

There were no cheers this time, just a stunned silence, followed by a wave of unsettled applause.

Lucian returned his blade to his back, then walked off without even acknowledging his opponent . He was simply a judge that passed sentence, then left without satisfaction or mockery.

Eleanor narrowed her eyes. "He didn’t slice the whip. He sliced the command to attack."

Sophia nodded. "He doesn’t need to win fights. He removes their purpose."

Roland exhaled slowly. "And that’s why you don’t spar with him unless you want your pride surgically removed."

Even Rina was silent for once. "Creepy sword guy..."

In the VIP lounge, several faction leaders leaned forward, whispering to aides while pulling up Lucian’s dossier.

The obsidian arena reset once more, the screens above gleaming bright with the next names, and the crowd immediately responded with fervor.

[Match 5: Tessa Asano "Titaness" (S-Class – Perfect Body) vs. Rhys Calderon (A-Class – Bladestorm Blink)]

The obsidian tiles glowed faintly as the arena completed its reset, forming a high-grip surface with jagged edges and broken elevation, a terrain tailored for speed and power.

The crowd stirred again, eagerly watching as the name of the next S-Class fighter shimmered across the display.

"Now entering the ring,the muscle-bound storm herself, the indomitable juggernaut of Madam Sylvia’s trio... Tessa Asano, the Titaness!" Lysandra’s voice boomed with excitement.

Tessa emerged to thunderous cheers, golden bomber jacket draped over her shoulder while her boots hit the floor with extreme confidence, muscles rippling with each step. She pulled her jacket off in one motion and tied it around her waist before raising both fists to the crowd and slamming them together with a grin.

Her opponent, Rhys Calderon, appeared across the field with far less fanfare. Slender, fast, and sharp-eyed, Rhys was already in motion before the match began, his Bladestorm Blink ability causing flickers of his form to appear in multiple places.

In his wake trailed ghostlike blades, projections of spatial slashes born from momentum and motion.

"Rhys Calderon, A-Class, Bladestorm Blink. Tactical speedster and multidirectional striker. Against the unstoppable wall of muscle... can the wind pierce the mountain?" Lysandra continued raising the hype.

Tessa cracked her neck. "He’s fast, but I’m faster!"

Rhys said nothing as he was already in the middle of dashing forward.

DING!

Rhys blinked - literally - across the field in an instant, his form fracturing into five simultaneous attack paths. Blades swung the air, their arcs aimed at Tessa’s vitals.

But her eyes narrowed and her legs flexed.

BOOM!

She vanished from her spot and met him mid-blink with a flying knee to the gut that disrupted his entire rhythm, causing one of his afterimages burst like vapor.

Rhys rolled away with gritted teeth, clutching his ribs in pain. "Impossible... she read my path?"

"Your steps echo like thunder in my ears dude. Sure, you’re fast, but I’m trained." Tessa said simply.

Saying this, she lunged forward again with not just brute force, but pivoted momentum and muscular acceleration laced with technical precision.

That was fancy talk for ’she did a Tatsumaki Senpukyaku aka, Hurricane Kick’.

Rhys blinked left to dodge, but Tessa used her foot to launch a chunk from the floor directly into his new location. Rhys appeared and blocked it - barely - but the impact shattered his stance.

The fellow gritted his teeth and countered with a full bladestorm surge, blinking haphazardly in a spiral of slashes. Tessa took one cut along her cheek but didn’t falter or even flinch.

Instead, her body responded.

’Perfect Body: Reflex Correction Engaged.’ Tessa thought to herself as she exhaled deeply.

Her muscles tightened, her stance shifted, and her next block was perfect, with her hand catching blade mid-air.

Rhys’s eyes widened. "That was an afterimage strike! You can’t—"

CRACK!

Her counterpunch hit like a cannonball, Rhys’s body twisting mid-air before bouncing across the arena floor like a ragdoll. He coughed violently in pain but forced himself to his knees, blades forming behind him for one last charge since he was unwilling to give up like this.

Tessa stood tall, blood trickling from one shallow cut. "Nice blade tricks, dude! Unfortunately for you, I don’t break."

Her entire body surged again with a golden light as her Perfect Body reached another state, her punches now humming with kinetic compression. When Rhys blinked forward, Tessa met him with a spinning hook kick that shattered his final attack and sent him flying into the barrier wall with a thunderous boom.

This time, he fellow didn’t get back up.

DING!

"Winner: Tessa Asano, the Titaness!" Lysandra declared.

The crowd roared like a storm as Tessa raised one fist and flexed again, grinning wide. She then began to make macho man poses while flexing her muscles, earning some lecherous cheers and whistles from the crowd.

"Damn, she’s glowing..." Rina muttered in awe.

Lucian, always serious, narrowed his eyes. "She’s learning. That’s what makes her scary."

"Every fight’s a training session for her. By the quarterfinals, she might be unstoppable." Sophia remarked coolly.

Tessa cracked her knuckles and winked at the stands before walking off with a victorious bounce in her step.

The arena’s pulse shifted once more as the obsidian tiles reset into a smooth silver basin. The overhead lights dimmed slightly, refracting into mist-like halos across the stage.

[Match 6: Roland Hayes "Tide" (S-Class – The Wave) vs. Elise Ferros (A-Class – Gravity Hands)]

Lysandra’s voice lilted through the air with a wry grin audible in every syllable.

"And now, for your vibing pleasure, put your hands together for the one man who treats battle like jazz... Roland Hayes, the Tide!"

A mellow synth tone accompanied his entrance as Roland strolled onto the platform like he’d just woken from a nap. His white-and-blue jacket flared slightly in the wind, sunglasses resting low on his nose as the silvery mist of his vibrational field gathered around his steps.

His opponent was far more direct.

Elise Ferros walked forward like a force of inevitability, her long black trench coat whipping behind her as she cracked her neck then raised her arms. Invisible pressure shifted around her body as the arena subtly dipped in places, showing that gravity was already bending to her will.

"Elise Ferros, A-Class esper. Ability: Gravity Hands. She manipulates local graviton pressure points to crush, restrict, and disrupt." Lysandra introduced with interest.

"Start the match!" Lysandra announced with a snap
