"Janice, open the door. I promise I’ll keep my word."
Christopher kept knocking on the door.
Janice glanced at the time. It was already past nine o’clock.
She was a little flustered by his knocking.
"You... What do you have to say? You can say it now."
Christopher frowned. Seeing that she had not opened the door, he said, "If you don’t open it, I’ll go get the spare key."
Upon hearing his words, Janice walked over and opened the door weakly.
Anyway, he could come in at any time.
She opened a crack in the door and took a glance at him. Then she immediately ran back beside the bed.
Christopher saw her reaction and walked over with a frown. "Does it still hurt?"
Janice leaned against the table and subconsciously hid the computer behind her.
Although the computer had been closed, she still felt a little guilty.
She quickly shook her head. "You... promised me."
Her implication was that you should keep a distance from me.
Christopher stopped and said, "Don’t worry, I’ve said it. I promise."
Then Janice was relieved.
"Well... why did you come in instead of sleeping?"
She stood there, biting her lips and looking terrified.
Christopher knew that he had scared her. He took a step forward and saw that she stepped backward, so he had to stop. "Don’t be afraid. I just want to check if you are OK. Do you need me to take you to the hospital?"
When he mentioned this, Janice’s face was terribly hot. If so, she might be regarded as a freak by others.
"No... no need."
Janice said hurriedly.
Christopher said in resignation, "It’s getting late. Go to sleep."
Then he saw her leaning against the table without moving. He frowned. "Why are you standing there?"
Although the computer had been closed, she didn’t totally turn it off. So she said,
"Nothing. Why don’t you go to sleep first?"
Seeing that she was standing still, Christopher thought that she was still afraid, so he simply walked over and pulled her arm to the bedside. "Go to sleep. I’ll sleep after you fall asleep."
He stared at her so that she couldn’t do anything. Therefore, she lay into bed obediently and went to sleep.
However, she couldn’t fall asleep at all. She slowly opened her eyes and glanced at Christopher who was beside her. Biting her lips, she whispered, "...Christopher."
"What?" Christopher waited for her to continue.
"Will you blame me? I’m so useless." Janice pursed her lips, and her eyes were red.
Christopher stroked her hair. Seeing that she didn’t avoid it, he then pushed away the hair on her forehead. "How could that be? Janice, it’s a matter of two person. If you’re not happy with it, I won’t force you."
Upon hearing this, Janice nodded, but later she seemed to recall something. She said weakly, "Why don’t you buy me some painkillers?"
She felt that there was only one way out.
However, Christopher directly changed his expression and said seriously, "Don’t take medicine!"
His serious tone made Janice feel wronged.
Then he immediately softened his voice, "I don’t mean to blame you. We can slowly overcome it. Taking medicine is harmful to the body."
Janice nodded in agreement.
"Go to sleep."
Christopher gently patted her back as if he was coaxing a child.
...
At first, Janice was still blaming herself and couldn’t fall asleep. However, she gradually fell asleep under Christopher’s soft caresses.
Christopher crouched by the bed and breathed a sigh of relief when he heard her steady breathing.
His eyes gradually darkened as he stared at Janice’s peaceful look while she was asleep.
The next morning, Janice woke up and saw Christopher asleep, as he laid his arms on the bed while sitting on the floor.
She was surprised. Why was he still here?
Did he stay by her side the whole night yesterday?
She twitched her nose as she thought about it.
She was apologetic.
She couldn’t bear to wake Christopher up, so she gently covered Christopher with a blanket and was about to sneak out of bed.
"Are you awake?"
Behind her, Christopher’s voice could be heard.
Janice paused and turned around.
"Christopher, why didn’t you sleep on the bed last night?"
Christopher rubbed his eyes sleepily and stood up from the ground. "I fell asleep unknowingly."
Janice knew, he said that because he didn’t want her to feel guilty. After all, he slept on the floor last night because of her.
"Then come on up to the bed and get some sleep. I’ll make breakfast."
Janice was about to leave.
"No, you should rest. I’ll make breakfast." He said.
Christopher tugged her arms and pressed her back on the bed. Then he woke up and left the room.
Janice felt more guilty since Christopher treated her so kindly. She rushed forward and hugged him.
Christopher stopped in his tracks. He peered at her hand around his waist and asked softly, "What’s wrong?"
Janice sniffed. She didn’t want him to notice that she was crying. She quickly
composed herself and said, "Honey, you treat me so kindly. I must have saved a country in my past life."
Christopher was amused when he heard her and was about to speak.
A rumble could be heard.
It came from Janice’s stomach.
Christopher chuckled. "Let me cook something and deal with your hunger."
Janice was moved to tears at first when she heard him, but she felt embarrassed when he teased her. She wiped her tears and loosened her grasp.
Christopher couldn’t help but pinch her red nose. "Still crying like a baby at this age? Should I treat you like a baby then?"
Janice was embarrassed, to begin with, but she felt even more awkward after hearing what he said. "That’s because I’m moved!" She exclaimed.
"Okay, stop crying. I’ll go down and make breakfast."
Christopher wiped her teary face, then he turned around and walked away.
Janice couldn’t help but sniff as she watched him leave. She reaffirmed her feelings towards him.
She had to conquer her fears since Christopher treated her so well.
Thinking of that, she picked up her phone and sent a We-Chat message to Yvonne.
"Yvonne, I’ve made the decision. Get me some painkillers. I’ll look for you after work."
Even though Christopher wouldn’t allow her to take painkillers, she thought that was the only solution back then.
Not long after, Yvonne replied to her. "OK."
After breakfast, Christopher sent her to the TV station. Janice was about to get out of the car when they reached the entrance. Suddenly, Christopher thought of something and said, "It’s Grandpa’s birthday next month. I’ll go there in the evening and ask him how he wants to celebrate it. Do you want to come with me?"
Janice quickly nodded. "Of course."
Speaking of which, she started to miss grandpa. He was such a kind, old man.
"OK, I’ll pick you up in the evening."
Janice was about to nod in agreement when she suddenly remembered that she had to go to the hospital to meet Yvonne. She needed to get the painkillers. She replied, "It’s okay, I need to change at home. Let’s leave from home."
"Okay, I’ll pick you up from home at seven o’clock."
After their discussion, Janice went to work, and Christopher drove away in his car.
...
There was nothing much to do since the new program was still in the preparation stage. So, Janice decided to go to the news department.
As soon as she stepped into the news department, she was surrounded by a group of colleagues.
"Janice, I heard that you’ve been transferred to a new program. Is it true?"
Her colleagues questioned her.
Janice didn’t know how to answer them.
After all, everyone was gunning for a spot in that program, but in the end, the opportunity was given to her.
Suddenly, she had become everyone’s target.
But she didn’t want this.
She replied, "I’m just going to give it a try. I’m not sure whether it will work out in the end."
Some colleagues were dissatisfied when they heard her but they remained silent.
Janice went towards her seat. She walked past Lucy and greeted her. "Morning, Lucy."
Surprisingly, Lucy ignored her.
Startled, she glanced at Lucy but Lucy had no intention to greet her at all.
Janice frowned. She probably knew the reason behind that.
It must have been because she was chosen for the new program.
After all, when Chief Gray asked her previously, she told Lucy that she had no intentions to participate in that program.
Lucy must have thought that Janice had deceived her.
She pondered for a while and thought that she needed to resolve the misunderstanding. She went to Lucy’s table and asked, "Lucy, are you angry?"
Lucy snorted at her and replied grumpily, "I’m only a reporter. You’re the anchorwoman. How could I be angry at you?"
Janice knew that Lucy was furious after she heard her.
Although Lucy could be quite petty at times, Janice had always regarded her as a friend.
She explained, "I’m sorry, Lucy. I didn’t mean to lie to you. Chief did offer the program to me, but I didn’t want to accept the offer back then. So, I didn’t tell you."
"What about after you accept the offer? Why didn’t you tell me? Don’t you treat me as a friend?"
Lucy puffed angrily.
Janice quickly denied it. "Of course not. You’ve always been my best friend here. Lucy, don’t be angry anymore. How about I treat you to lunch at noon?"
After hearing what Janice said, Lucy replied cockily, "That’s what you said. I want Japanese food."
"Okay, you can eat whatever you want."
After making peace with Lucy, Janice packed her things and went to the variety show department on the third floor.
Although the show has yet to be recorded, the staff office was decided.
She took her things and went over. As soon as she entered the office, she saw Benjamin. He was probably looking for someone as he was looking around when he walked in. Finally, he saw Janice and went over to her.
Janice was not surprised when she saw Benjamin.
She had made peace with herself. After all, they were working in the same place. It was impossible for them not to bump into each other. Besides, the show they were filming was new and it was normal for him to supervise them since he was a director in the station.
She just needed to do her work. She really didn’t have to care about anything else.
Janice pretended that she did not see Benjamin and started to sort out her things.
Benjamin walked towards her and stopped at the door. Then, he knocked on the office’s glass door.
"Janice, can I come in?"
Janice stopped what she was doing. "Of course, Director Taylor. Please come in. I just moved in. It’s a little messy here."
Benjamin walked in and glanced at her table. "Do you need my help?"
Janice hurriedly said, "It’s okay. What can I do for you, Director Taylor?"
