Janice also felt that she needed to go for a doctor’s appointment to do routine checkup, since she had recently been vomiting for no apparent cause.
After breakfast, Christopher quickly drove her to the hospital. As soon as the car stopped at the entrance of the hospital, he got a call from Wanda, who informed him that Old Mr. Allson suddenly collapsed in the morning.
Janice wanted to go with him to visit the old man, but Christopher couldn’t let her, nit in this her frail state.
"Since we are already at the hospital, why don’t you go in let them check you first. There’s a doctor on Grandpa’s side, and there is only so much you can do for now, please."
After pondering for a second, she acquiesced, "Remember to call me and tell me what’s going on over there. I’d want to know everything"
"Okay."
She watched as his car drove off and slowly zoomed out of sight. Then she turned around and walked into the hospital.
She had previously booked a doctor’s appointment in advance before she came here. She was in fact half an hour early. As she walked past the lobby, she bumped into Gladys and Vanessa.
There were still scars on Gladys’ face that had not healed completely. She tried to dodge and hide far away when she saw Janice. Vanessa hid behind Gladys. After the last beating she had received, they both knew Janice’s prowess. It turned out that she was not a pushover or softie at all, but a lioness clothed in kindness and gentleness yet to exhibit her ferocious side. Malcolm had just picked up their prescriptions and saw Janice standing from afar. When he saw his wife and daughter’s terrified expressions, he hurriedly went over.
"Janice."
He stood in front of them as a way of protecting his wife and daughter.
Looking at Malcolm’s guarded expression, Janice sneered in her heart, why would she hit them in public? Was she that uncouth? However, she no longer cared about her father’s attitude towards her. She’s independent after all.
She said, "Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to them. But why did you take the money?"
The last time she was at the Gladwell Group, she was so irritated, she couldn’t question him in his face.
"Ever since you divorced my mother, when have you ever provided for me or even cared for me? Even my tuition fees were paid by own sweat. If you think that you have the right to take the money just because you are my father, let me tell you this, you are mistaken. I have accepted the responsibility and the realization of taking care of you in your old age, and I have never thought of mistreating you. But on
what basis do you have for accepting the money? Don’t you feel guilty?" Aren’t you ashamed?
"Janice..."
"You don’t have to explain. I’ll pay you back the money you had accepted according to the thirty years retirement fund standard. As for the balance, I’ll get it back from you without a penny less. Be ready to accept."
After saying that, she brushed away with a no emotions on her face. Seeing this, he hurried to catch up with her.
"Janice, you can’t do that. I spent the money on the company’s investment."
"Then mortgage off the company to pay off the debts," She said remorselessly as she walked on.
"Chris has a share in the company too."
Hearing this, Janice stopped and turned around to look at him.
"Good that you mentioned it, if not I would have forgotten about it. I’ll ask someone else to settle what you owe him."
She turned around and continued walking forward without turning or showing any sympathy.
Malcolm was taken aback by her daughter’s behaviors. He was stunned on the spot.
When Janice arrived at the consultation office, the time was just right. She walked in and met a very experienced gynecologist.
"How long have you vomiting?" After explaining her symptoms, the doctor asked.
Janice thought for a moment. "Roughly twenty days or so. It was intermittent for a few days, but started again yesterday."
"When did you last had your period?"
She was briefly taken aback. So many things had happened that she forgot to keep track of her health. She had totally forgotten about her period.
"Probably last month. I don’t remember."
The doctor wrote her two prescriptions. "Go and do a blood test and an ultrasound check-up."
When she left with the prescription, she thought of the question that the doctor had asked earlier. She realized that she could be pregnant. That was the only thing that could be responsible for that.
...
When she had gone through all the tests and the examinations and was told that she was pregnant, she was in a state of confusion.
"The ultrasound record shows that you are already fifty-five days pregnant. There are some things that you need to pay attention during the early stage of pregnancy, which is on this list. Take it back and have a look with your family."
Even as Janice walked out of the consultation room, she still felt surreal. She couldn’t believe it yet. She hasn’t come to terms with this new reality yet.
She was indeed pregnant.
And it had been for almost two months.
So many things had happened during this period of time that she had lost track of menstruation days. However, she did not know whether it was good or bad at this juncture. If Christopher hadn’t lost his memory, she would have shared the good news with him immediately. But, now that he had lost his memory, she didn’t know what he would think if he knew she was pregnant. When she thought of this, Janice began to wonder. It put her in an uncomfortable state of dilemma.
She couldn’t make up her mind at that moment. Her indecision plagued for quite a while. She unconsciously walked to the department where Yvonne worked. She wanted to try her luck and see if Yvonne was at work today, so she walked in.
"Looking for Dr. White? She had already been fired."
"Fired?"
Upon hearing the doctor’s reply, Janice instantly sunk.
Why would Yvonne suddenly get fired? An immediate thought came to her and she called Yvonne.
"Yvonne, where are you?"
"I’m at home."
"I’m coming over."
Janice departed hurriedly.
At the apartment, Yvonne opened the door and welcomed Janice in. She was still having on her pajamas and her eyes were hazy and heavy. It was obvious that she had just woken up. When she saw Janice’s troubled expression, she frowned.
"What’s wrong?"
Janice stared at her. "Yvonne, why didn’t you tell me?"
"What?"
Yvonne was pouring water in the dining area. When she heard Janice’s question, her face instantly blanked.
Janice did not speak. She walked up and hugged Yvonne. She did not know what to say, but when she heard that Yvonne had lost her job because of her, her heart was filled with such unbearable guilt.
Yvonne felt that she was acting strangely and asked, "What’s wrong? Didn’t you spend some time with your husband?"
"I just came back from the hospital." Janice said.
Only then did Yvonne understood and she reached out her hand to scratch her head.
"Hey, what’s there to say? I just lost my job."
She said indifferently.
"But you lost it because of me."
Janice felt awfully bad at that moment.
Yvonne handed Janice a glass of chill water and she got herself a glass too. "It’s okay. I didn’t want to work there any longer either. Besides, it saved me the trouble of worrying about making a decision. By the way, why did you go to the hospital? Is your hubby injured again?"
Janice shook her head and put down the glass of water. Then, she brought the test results from her bag and showed it to Yvonne, while also handing it to her.
Yvonne took a look at the reports and was surprised.
"You’re pregnant?!!"
Janice gestured sullenly.
Yvonne grinned and said excitedly, "I’m going to be a godmother."
She raised her eyes and saw that Janice’s expression was not as excited as she should be.
"Isn’t this good news? You don’t look very happy."
Janice lowered her gaze.
"It’s not that I’m unhappy, it’s just that this child didn’t seem to have come at the right time. Especially now is not the time"
"Why not?"
Keeping her gaze down, Janice briefly paused before she continued, "As you know, he doesn’t remember me anymore."
Yvonne replied, "So what? Does he already know that you are having his child?"
Janice did not know how to explain it to Yvonne. She did not know how Christopher would react when he found out that she was pregnant.
By the time she knew, she had already used a contract in exchange for a chance to be with him for three months, with so much difficulty and effort on her part.
...
Even if their relationship seemed to be improving, she still would not dare to take the risk before he fully regains his memory of who she really is to him. She was afraid that she would have to come to terms with the agreement she made within seconds. She was afraid that her efforts would all be futile.
"But he hasn’t even accepted me yet, much less a child who hasn’t been born yet?" Janice was worried.
Yvonne frowned and said, "You’re right. However, even if you don’t tell him about it now, it won’t be long before it starts to show and sooner or later your stomach starts to get bigger."
Janice knew that she couldn’t hide it for too long. How long would she keep up with it? After all, two months had already passed.
"Let’s take it one step at a time."
After coming out of Yvonne’s house, Janice received a call from Christopher.
"Are you done with your medical checkup? How are you feeling now?" He asked.
After a brief pause, contemplating what would be the perfect response Janice replied, "The doctor said that I have a gastric problem. He said I will be fine after taking some medication and resting. How’s Grandpa?"
Chris replied, "He is fine. His condition is stabilized but he hasn’t woken up yet. Where are you? I’ll come pick you up? Let’s discuss it when we meet."
Janice glanced around her surroundings and told him where she was. After putting away her phone, she reached out to touch and stroke her flat lower abdomen, as she gently rubbed her hands across it, she kept having mixed feelings about it.
"I’m sorry, baby, but I can’t let Daddy know about your existence yet. Mommy will find a suitable time to tell Daddy."
But now was not the time.
She tried to console herself.
Not long after, Christopher’s car arrived.
Janice slowly got into the front passenger seat. Now that she has confirmed that she was indeed pregnant, she had to be careful in everything she did. She even fastened her seatbelt slowly and carefully.
Looking at her slow movements, Christopher thought that she was not feeling well, so he reached out to help her. "Let me do it."
He took the seat belt and pulled it gently around her body.
Janice stared at the side of his face, and felt the urge to tell him that she was finally pregnant with his child.
However, she suppressed it in.
After he had done her seatbelt for her and started driving, she asked, "You said on the phone that Grandpa hasn’t woken up yet. What’s going on?"
He answered as he drove, "The doctor said that he is in a pseudo coma, and won’t wake up for a while."
"Is it life-threatening?"
She asked, concerned.
He looked solemn. "It’s hard to say. Grandpa is old. Anything is possible."
Upon hearing his words, her heart sank. Speaking of which, owing to grandpa, she was now pregnant with his child, but unfortunately, the old man was in a coma.
Janice felt as if God was playing a trick on her.
Ever since she found out that she was pregnant, Janice paid extra attention and care to herself. Whether it was in terms of food or clothes. She immediately started wearing loose clothing once she got home and even changed her shoes into comfy, warm, and firm shoes, so they would keep her from slipping over and falling.
She also put away the mattress that was lying on the ground in the bedroom.
When Christopher came into the bedroom, he saw that she was tidying up her clothes. He was curious and asked, "What are you doing?"
She briefly paused before she continued, "From today onwards, I will move to the guest room."
He was stunned. "You have been sleeping well here. Why are you moving to the other room all of a sudden?"
She pursed her lips and didn’t know how to explain it to him. The doctor had instructed clearly that she couldn’t get intimate with him in the early stages of pregnancy. Lately, the two have been really passionate and in their feelings. This would make it easy to get into trouble if she stayed in the same room.
She could not resist him if he wanted her that badly.
So, after thinking about it, she felt that it was better that they slept in separate rooms, at least, it could reduce the possibility of anything too cozy happening.
But, how can she explain this? What excuse could she give him?
