Chapter 25: Sudden Wedding

“I can’t…”

Wen Zhi uttered a feeble protest.

The dream fluctuated, as if submerging in the deep sea, with waves overturning and instantly drowning a person.

Images flashed before her eyes, constantly shifting from blurry to clear, from nothingness to reality. Whenever she tried to see more clearly, she could only make out the contours of that face…

She was turned over, her face buried in the pillow.

Wen Zhi thought for a moment, then stammered, “Only, only with someone very close, can such intimacies be shared, you and I, we can’t be like this.”

“You resist because things aren’t proper, the names aren’t right?” he asked her seriously after some thought.

Wen Zhi’s voice was still nasal, she softly responded, “Yeah.”

Her mind was foggy, whatever the man asked, she answered, although her thoughts were fairly clear.

The man said, “I understand now.”

Wen Zhi was baffled, what did he understand?

Just then, Wen Zhi suddenly noticed the environment around her was changing, and in front of her, there seemed to be a faint white light.

Was the dream waking up?

As the white light approached her closer and closer, she closed her eyes. After a long time, when she opened her eyes again, she found herself in a luxuriously decorated bedroom.

At that moment, she was sitting in front of a dressing table adorned with Manta roses, in the mirror, she wore a white veil, her makeup exquisite, a pristine wedding dress making her look stunningly beautiful.

“A wedding dress…” Wen Zhi stared at her bridal reflection in the mirror, her gaze vacant: “Am I married?”

‘Knock, knock, knock’

A knocking sound came from outside.

Wen Zhi didn’t know what was happening, so she could only stand up, lift her long skirt, and stumble to open the door.

A maid stood outside the door.

The maid nodded to Wen Zhi, calling her, “Young Madam, are you ready?”

Wen Zhi puzzled, “Ready for what?”

The maid replied, “For your wedding with the master.”

“The wedding…” Confusion crossed Wen Zhi’s face, turning into incredulity, “I wasn’t planning to get married.”

The maid disregarded what Wen Zhi said, and continued, “The master is already at the church waiting for you.”

“Waiting for me? You’ve got the wrong person, today’s not my wedding day.” Wen Zhi shut the door firmly, ignoring how much the maid knocked afterward, she didn’t open it again.

How strange.

She didn’t even have a boyfriend, yet suddenly someone was telling her to get married.

Who was she marrying?

Who would the groom be?

This was a dream, a bizarre world, where everything seen was fabricated. But if she was getting married in a dream, who would her imagined groom be? Could it be some celebrity? Or a former classmate? Or a complete stranger?

Was he handsome?

Was he tall?

Was he rich?

Driven by curiosity, which surged in her dream-state, Wen Zhi couldn’t resist her sense of wonder. She turned and opened the door, “Who is the groom I’m marrying?”

She expected the maid to still be outside when she opened the door.

But when she opened it, the maid was gone, replaced by a long red carpet leading directly to the altar below.

This was a magnificent church, with a stained glass dome that reflected sunlight illuminating the entire interior, and a priest beside the altar smiled at her.

This was a wedding.

The bride was Wen Zhi herself.

And the groom, dressed in a white suit, faced the priest and stood under the altar waiting for her.

Then, the priest gestured for Wen Zhi to come forward.

Wen Zhi, as if possessed, took a step forward but soon stopped. Was she here to get married? No! She was here to see clearly who the man was.

She took a deep breath and, dragging her long train, walked step by step toward the altar.

The closer she got, the more nervous she became.

Until she was just a meter away from the man, Wen Zhi stared at his back for a moment, then mustered the courage to reach out her anxious hand.

She gently tapped the man on the shoulder, and then, the man turned around holding a bunch of Manta roses in his hand.

When she saw the man’s face clearly, she was petrified!

“You you you—”

“Are we legitimate now?” the man asked her.

Wen Zhi slowly stepped back and, inadvertently stepping on the hem of her dress, lost her balance and stumbled to the ground.

Accompanied by a ‘thud’ sound.

What followed was a long silence.

The hands of the clock on the wall had just reached eight in the morning, the smart curtains slowly opened, and as the sunlight streamed through the windowpanes and shone on the foot of the bed, a slender hand slowly stretched from under the bed to the bed over.

Wen Zhi struggled to get up and lay back on the bed, while rubbing the sore spot on her buttocks, she recalled how she had fallen off the bed.

It seemed to be a dream…

Right, it was a dream.

She dreamt that her wedding was held in the church.

The scenes in the dream were very beautiful, she dragged her long wedding attire toward the altar, just to see clearly who the groom marrying her really was.

When the groom turned around—

She woke up!

Awoken by her own stumble.

In reality too, she had fallen off the bed.

Wedding attire, wedding, altar, priest, each frame seemed so vivid, as if she had really experienced it all.

Especially when she thought of the groom’s face she saw in the dream, Wen Zhi’s mood became very complicated.

This was the second time she had dreamt about him.

This time, there was not only passion but also a wedding.

Shang Jing thought Wen Zhi would leave early, so he came out at seven thirty to wait for her, but it took him nearly an hour to finally see Wen Zhi limping along.

Shang Jing was naturally angry.

But considering Wen Zhi’s leg injury and the grievances she suffered the day before, he held back and did not make a urging call.

“Wen Zhi.”

Shang Jing called out as he lowered the car window.
