Chef in the Apocalypse

The night was unlike any other that had ever fallen upon the land. The crimson moon, hanging low in the sky, exuded an otherworldly, blood-red hue that tainted the heavens. Its eerie glow cast long, sinister shadows across the plains in front of Bastion, where an impending catastrophe was about to unfurl.

The wind, like a harbinger of doom, picked up in intensity as the night grew darker. It howled through the rugged mountains that framed the scene, producing an unsettling and mournful whistle. The trees that lined the edge of the plains rustled and swayed in ominous anticipation, their leaves whispering secrets of the horrors to come.

The air itself seemed to thicken with dread, each breath tainted with a taste of foreboding. It was as though the very land mourned for the impending battle, as if nature itself recoiled at the monstrous tide that threatened to consume everything in its path.

In the distance, the plains stretched out beneath the unnaturally red moon, bathed in its eerie glow. This was a place that had once been serene, where the tranquil beauty of nature held sway. Now, it stood as a battleground, the setting for an apocalyptic clash between humanity and the grotesque monstrosities that advanced like a relentless storm.

The Beast Tide, a nightmarish horde, rumbled forward. These creatures were beyond the imagination of any Earthly myths or legends. Enormous insects, several times the size of their earthly counterparts, crawled relentlessly onward. Monsters of all shapes and sizes were littered around the place, staring in the direction of Bastion with murderous eyes.

Amongst the slew of monsters, there was a group which stood out from the rest. The leaders of this monstrous army, five in total, possessed an unsettling intelligence that set them apart. The Arachnid, with its multiple, glittering eyes, appeared as a twisted artist of death. The Black Tortoise, its massive frame supported by an impenetrable shell, exuded an air of unassailable authority. The feline abomination, looking like a hybrid of a Jaguar and Tiger, displayed raw power in every ripple of its grotesque muscles.

The Praying Mantis stood tall and silent with its one remaining scythe held up against its green exoskeleton. Were Jayce present, he would instantly recognize it as the same monster that had decapitated the three teenagers in Qinling city.

The last monster was the most sinister of them all, remaining hidden, its absence only adding to the sense of impending dread. Only its outline could be seen in the crimson moonlight, depicting an ominous shadow which seemed to eat at the light surrounding it.

While the 5 boss monsters were static, the Beast Tide moved around them. With the arrival of more and more monsters, the ones who had come first began to move closer and closer to Bastion, forming the front line of their army.

At the edge of the plains, a group of shadows began to warp as if space and time itself were twisting. With slow steps, a slender man wearing a pitch black jacket that seemed to be weaved out of shadows, appeared out of thin air. He was wearing a Tophat and a creepy mask covered his face, showing only his red glowing eyes.

The surrounding monsters from the Beast Tide did not react to the sudden appearance of this man, as if they could not detect his presence. This also rang true for the 5 boss monsters who were stronger and whose senses were on a higher level.

The masked man paid the monsters no heed, tapping his foot on the ground impatiently. After a few minutes, the space beside him began to fracture like glass, creating an unnatural grinding sound.

In the next moment, a figure shrouded in darkness appeared, stepping through the cracks in space. The space began to repair itself almost instantly, creating a stark pressure in the surrounding area.

"Sorry I’m late." a gravelly voice came from the direction of the shadowy figure, directed at the impatient man in front of him.

"Leo, why are you bothering to conceal yourself? None of the monsters or players are strong enough to see you, let alone know who you are." The masked man said in an annoyed tone.

"You’re one to talk Rubick, how about you take off that stupid mask?" Leo replied, his tone devoid of respect.

Rubick let out a long sigh, "Have you ever heard of theatrics? A mask brings an air of mystery and intrigue to an otherwise boring encounter." He shook his head, realizing that the sentiment would be lost on his colleague.

Without continuing to explain himself, he swiftly flicked his finger in the direction of Leo, sending a fierce burst of wind at his shadowy visage. Caught off guard, Leo held his arms up, intending to block the blow, only to be sent flying back a few meters.

He opened his eyes, only to realize that his shadowy guise had now been destroyed, revealing his true form. Coarse yellow fur coated his entire body, much like a Lion that was present on Earth. However, instead of walking on four legs, he was standing on two, a cross between a human and a Lion.

His amber eyes blinked a few times, not believing what had happened. In the next moment, his contorted in rage and he let out a deep growl, his large frame lowering onto the ground in preparation to pounce at Rubick.

"Now now, don’t get your tail in a knot. The battle is about to start, which was the whole reason we came down here in the first place." Rubick said matter-of-factly, however Leo could hear the slight tone of amusement hidden beneath his words.

Leo resisted the urge to maul the eccentric sorcerer in front of him, knowing that it was not the time or place to start such a fight. Not only did he have no confidence in winning, he would also attract some unwanted attention, something that neither of them could afford.

After a moment of consideration, Leo stood up once again, choosing to ignore the hateful man in front of him.
