Chef in the Apocalypse

As the party unleashed their coordinated assault on the Hydra’s fiery head, Zane’s arrows and Jackie’s ice lances flew toward their mark. It seemed like a perfect plan—until the Hydra’s serpentine necks moved with a terrifying speed, intercepting the incoming projectiles. The arrows and lances struck the tough, leathery skin of the serpent but failed to pierce it, leaving no more than superficial scratches.

Before they could react to this unexpected defense, the same head that had thwarted their attacks released a noxious cloud of poisonous fog. The party was engulfed in the toxic mist, their vision blurring and throats constricting. Each breath felt like inhaling daggers, and their limbs grew heavy and unresponsive.

Desperation clawed at them, but there was no time for recovery. The Hydra’s massive tail swung through the mist, crashing against Colin’s shield. The impact was devastating, sending the colossal warrior hurtling backward, his shield acting as a makeshift sled. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Colin tumbled across the rugged terrain for nearly fifty meters, his body battered and bloodied. Finally, he managed to right himself, spitting out a mouthful of blood. His vision swam, but he knew he couldn’t afford to stay down for long.

The poisonous fog that had filled the battlefield was dispersed by the Hydra’s powerful tail strike. The rest of the party, struggling to breathe and feeling the effects of the poison slowly sapping their strength, tried to regroup. Jayce and his cohort coughed and wheezed, their movements sluggish.

"Damn it!" Jayce cursed, feeling stifled inside. They had only been attacked by two of the Hydra’s heads thus far, yet they were already struggling this much.

His mind raced, going through some possible scenarios. He was familiar with the myth about Hercules and the Hydra, but he was not sure how accurate it would be, it was a myth after all. The ideal situation would be to deal with one head at a time, cutting them off and making the monster progressively weaker.

However, if this Hydra was like the one from the myths, then if he cut off one of their heads, another two would show up in its place. He began to wrack his brain, trying to remember how Hercules had finally killed the beast, yet nothing was coming to his mind.

Unfortunately, the Hydra was not nice enough to allow Jayce the luxury of thinking in this situation. An eerie series of hisses sounded as the beast threw its heads forward, forgoing their elemental affinities and opting to swallow the party whole.

"OI YOU SLITHERY BITCH! I’M OVER HERE" Colin yelled out, his trademark grin returning to his face. Yet it lacked its dazzling quality thanks to the blood and dirt that was caked all over his face.

Jayce’s ears twitched, his gaze quickly focusing on Colin who was holding his shield up high. "Not again!" he screamed out in a hoarse voice, surprise and anger laced within those words. That suicidal bastard was going to try and sacrifice himself once again to allow the team a chance at winning.

He had had enough, he would not lose another one of his beloved party members to this shitty Beast Tide. "F*ck you Cataclysm!" Jayce shouted, opening up his skill window and activating his abilities.

A searing wave of heat surged from Jayce’s being, enveloping him and his comrades. It was as if a blazing sun had risen in their midst, flooding them with a torrent of energy. Their bodies tingled with newfound strength, and their senses sharpened as if they were awakening from a deep slumber.

The ground beneath them trembled as the power coursed through their veins, and a whirlwind of dust and debris was kicked into the sky as the party experienced an unprecedented power-up. Their muscles bulged with newfound vigor, their reflexes honed to perfection, and their minds clear and focused.

Their gazes turned toward Jayce, wide-eyed and brimming with disbelief. They were wordless, their expressions a mix of astonishment and gratitude. It was as though Jayce had harnessed the very essence of the elements, channeling it into their bodies.

Colin, who had braced himself for the heavy attack of the Hydra, felt his muscles grow dramatically. In one moment, he was as large as his idols in Mr. Universe, his veins like coiling dragons underneath the taut muscles which were seemingly growing without pause.

Yet in the next moment, they condensed by threefold, reducing him to the stature of a well-toned but normal human being instead of the giant that he usually was. Colin would have thought that he’d been sucked dry, were it not for the immense strength that he felt from within.

It was like his body had readjusted itself to better contain the massive increase in strength that he had just received. Unfortunately Colin did not have time to think about all of this, as the huge tail of the Hydra came hurtling towards him at breakneck speed.

Hanging onto the Immovable Wall, he dug his heels into the ground waiting for the impact.

CLANG!

A giant clanging sound not unlike the noise a gong would make resounded throughout the plains, causing those in the vicinity to question their senses. The once impervious tail of the Hydra had smashed into the shield with such force, yet it was unable to move the shield, nor Colin who was holding it.

The tip of the tail, which had served as the torque point that allowed it to function as a whip, was completely deformed. The once elastic, yet hardy tip was now bent at an odd angle, causing a shiver to run down the Hydra’s body.

It silently raised its tail up towards one of its many heads, looking at its once gorgeous looking tail before letting out a woeful scream of pain. Its cries of agony turned into roars of rage, its eight heads moving at great speed, weaving in and out of each other in anger.
