Chef in the Apocalypse

Jayce closed his eyes, his face straining under the pressure that the class upgrade brought with it. Gritting his teeth, he allowed the sensation to wash over him, remodeling his body into a higher life form.

He had experienced this sensation 2 times in his previous life as a swordsman, yet it was never this painful, nor this lengthy. However when he thought about it, it all made sense. He had skipped 3 class tiers, moving directly up to the final class, which means he had to experience 3 remodeling processes at once.

It was no wonder why it was so painful. Yet this was good news for Jayce, he embraced the pain, knowing that once he came out on the other side it would be all worth it. The sensation lasted for around 10 minutes, at the end of which he was covered in sweat and breathing heavily.

Macies eyes widened, feeling a shiver run down her spine. She suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood, fainting in Heath’s arms and causing a commotion.

"Macie!" Heath cried out, his face covered in anxiety.

Jayce was unaware of the happenings behind him, as he was too engrossed in the feeling of what he could only describe as an ascension. He opened up his status, taking in the information that was in front of him. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Jayce’s eyes fluttered over the information on his status screen, a grin subconsciously forming upon his face. The first thing that struck out at him was that his primary stats had increased by 20 each, which easily made up for the 3 months he had been lagging behind the others in his party.

He was now level 31, and had 13 free ability points to spend. Meaning that he now received 13 stats per level, almost double what he was allocated before he upgraded his class. Jayce’s eyes shined, the benefits of having this conversion rate at such a low level was easy to see.

If Jayce was in a good mood after seeing his stats, then he was elated once he saw his new skills. His three starting skills had each been upgraded to Expert Cooking, Analyze and Enhancement respectively, all of which sounded very powerful.

He looked over to see Macie who was currently unconscious in Heath’s arms, with Lianna holding her hands above her chest as if healing her. In the next moment, a ton of information popped up, surrounding the 3 people in front of him.

His eyes moved across the information with awe. When he upgraded his quest to Advanced Swordsman in his previous life, he gained the ability to view basic information on monsters, in the form of a name above their head.

He could gauge the strength of the monsters by the color of the name that appeared. Red was the strongest, followed by orange, yellow, blue, green and white in descending order. From his conversations with others, this was a common thing for those who had reached their 3rd tier classes.

However, he had never heard of a skill or ability that allowed someone to view another player’s status window, let alone seeing details such as their strength, weakness and affinity. His eyes roamed around, yet his vision became clogged by numerous pop-up windows showing the status of everything and everyone.

Jayce was forced to close his eyes, feeling a headache creeping in as his brain tried to absorb the information. With a mental command, he attempted to turn the Analyze skill off in order to be able to function properly.

Thankfully, when he opened his eyes the windows had all closed, letting him breathe out a sigh of relief. He looked over at Heath who was looking panicked, staring at his wife in his arms anxiously. Jayce walked over, putting his hand on the big man’s shoulder.

"Don’t worry, she’s unconscious, but stable. Take her to where the injured are behind the walls." Jayce said in an authoritative tone, not waiting for an answer.

His eyes drifted to Lianna who was breathing heavily after pouring her mana into healing the unconscious Macie. In the next moment, her status window appeared in front of him, allowing Jayce to get a good look of how she was fairing.
