Chef in the Apocalypse

Lianna and Leah were both breathing heavily, having given their all to heal the two heads of the arrow formation in Colin and Leah. They had given their guarantee that they wouldn’t let the two tanks fall, however it proved a lot more difficult than they had anticipated.

Not only did they have to steadily provide heals, they also had to ensure that their Law of Nature would only affect their allies. It would be disastrous if their healing were to be used on the already powerful enemy.

This required intense concentration and focus to pull off. So despite the battle only being 15 minutes thus far, they had already pushed their abilities to the limits and were suffering from some mental fatigue.

Heath and Colin were also at their limit, despite receiving healing from the two. Receiving the Qi and boosts from others was not an easy thing to endure for long periods of time.

This was why the head of battle formations were usually cycled, evident in the vision that the purple sword showed Jayce at that time.

However, there was truly no one else within the human army who could last over 60 seconds with the rampaging Qi flooding their entire bodies.

It was only because Heath and Colin had cultivated the Divine Body Arts that they could last as long as they had so far. Therefore, after 15 minutes they began to slow down, feeling as if their bodies were imploding from the flooding of Qi inside their meridians.

This in turn caused them to slow their attacks, putting significantly less pressure on the alien army.

Darius was one of the squad leaders within the alien army. He was currently covered in blood, feeling his heart beating out of his chest as he desperately tried to control his soldiers during the onslaught from the humans.

He had been holding on through sheer will as he watched the two arrowheads of Colin and Heath burst through their defense line over and over. Everywhere they went there were casualties.

Were it not for the superior armor and weapons they were equipped with, these barbaric humans would have obliterated them already.

Darius had managed to land a few decent blows against Colin and Heath throughout the exchange, however it was not without a cost. Many of his soldiers had been trampled by the two juggernauts in the process.

There was a feeling of deep regret within his eyes as he watched the men he trained turn lifeless. They had deeply underestimated the prowess of the humans, thinking them as nothing more than barbarians, even as they stepped through the portal.

Their morale had taken a huge blow when Dia, one of their commanders had fallen to the human in the sky. If that wasn’t enough, they were mercilessly attacked from the sky and from the ground, putting them into a precarious position.

Things went from bad to worse as their General had his throat slit whilst trying to show off at the front of the army.

With a Commander and General now missing from the army, they were momentarily thrown into disarray. The humans had then capitalized on the situation, sending an unstoppable force in the form of Colin and Heath into their army.

Darius had tried desperately to take over command, however the battlefield was too chaotic. No one had any time to listen to orders that he was shouting as they were hit from all directions.

Not only were they being pieced apart from the two arrows, they were also had to worry about ranged attacks being thrown out from all sides.

However, they managed to hold on long enough to weather the storm of attacks after 15 minutes. Darius suddenly found the pressure had decreased significantly, almost as if the humans attacks had subsided.

He instantly knew what he had to do.

"GET THE HEALERS!!" He screamed out in his alien language, before forsaking everything and rushing towards the two humans sitting at the edge of the battlefield.

The shout rang out over the battlefield, drawing the attention of everyone. Thankfully, almost a hundred warriors heeded his call, following after him as he ran towards the women with ill intent.

The juggernaut humans attempted to bar their way, however Darius managed to squeeze his way past them, drawing his spear in preparation to skewer the thorns in his side.

From his judgment, without these two women the human army would not be able to outlast them. With their superior armor and weaponry they would be able to eek out a victory in the end, albeit a pyrrhic one.

Darius jumped in the air towards Leah and Lianna, his face twisted into a bloodthirsty grin. He drew his spear backwards with both hands and thrust out with terrifying force, aiming for the closest woman who seemed to be dressed in rags.

However, instead of hearing the sweet sound of his spear tearing into their flesh, he felt a great resistance. Darius felt his arms tremble from the feedback, causing him to click his tongue in annoyance a moment later.

An ice wall had suddenly appeared in front of the two, protecting them from the incoming attack.

Without a word, he struck out with his spear once again intending to break the wall. However what happened next filled him with fear.

As his spear drove into the Ice wall, it broke into fragments. Yet instead of falling to the floor, they hovered in place before firing at great speed in his direction.

Darius quickly spun his spear in front of him, blocking all of the ice shards which threatened to turn him into a pin cushion. Fortunately he was able to block the surprise attack, however he still heard screams of pain behind him.

It seemed as if the others who had made it through the encirclement had not been as lucky as himself.

He turned his head only to see the carnage littered behind him.

"F*cking motherf*ckers!" Darius cried out.

All of his allies had been pierced by the ice shards and were now dead as can be. Which meant he was now alone, surrounded by enemies on every side.

What was meant to be the turning point in battle had quickly turned into a trap. He instantly knew that he had screwed up and would likely die in a few moments.

He turned back to the wall of humans in front of him, a look of resolution creeping onto his face. Darius had already accepted his death, however he would squeeze out all of his energy to take out as many humans as he possibly could.

He straightened his back and held his spear in an upright position, with the heel resting on the ground. Letting out a deep breath, his countenance suddenly changed into something similar to a cornered beast.

Darius circulated his Qi, feeling his body heat up in response. His light green skin began to slowly change color, taking on a reddish hue. The heat resonating from his body began to distort the air in his surroundings, giving him an imposing look.

"Come at me with all you’ve got." Darius spoke in the human tongue, his face dripping with resolution.

In the next moment, the sound of a dull explosion rang out, causing his body to tremble in response. He quickly turned around to try and locate the source of the sound, however his tall frame did not see anything.

His body suddenly felt odd, as if the strength he had accumulated was being sucked slowly from him. Out of instinct, he looked down towards his chest only to see a large hole in his chest from which a dazzling dagger jutted out.

Still standing in place, he looked down at the dagger with puzzlement, almost not believing his eyes. He tried to grab it with his left hand, however it disappeared a moment later.

"W-What happened?" He asked the onlookers, his vision beginning to falter.

Yet there was no response. Or it was possible that there was, but his senses had begun to shut down one by one. At first his vision, followed by his hearing and sense of touch. He couldn’t even feel anything by the time he collapsed onto the ground, dying silently.

Zane once again fished out a piece of cloth and went to work cleaning up the blood which had marred the brilliant sheen of his dagger. His face was expressionless as he did so, not even sparing the strong enemy another glance.

The Bloodfang Dagger was truly a divine pairing with Zane. Whenever off cooldown, he had been utilizing the Master of Stealth ability and sneaking around to take out the stronger targets within the enemy army.

He was like a specter on the battlefield, assassinating anyone who looked strong. Zane was a large reason as to why the human army had been able to sustain so few casualties throughout the exchanges.

"Thank you Jackie, Zane." Lianna said after a moment, trying to catch her breath.

She had been worried for a moment there, however it seemed that her anxiety had been misplaced.

Zane merely nodded before walking off to look for his next victim, it seemed as if he didn’t consider his act as something that needed praise.

Jackie on the other hand was a little more tactful. She came up to Lianna and wrapped her arm around her.

"Are you guys okay? You shouldn’t push yourselves too hard. Especially you Leah, you look like you’ve seen better days." She said, her tone filled with worry.
