Chef in the Apocalypse

"Okay no one panic." Jayce said, trying to calm down the intensive beating of his heart.

However, his voice did little to quash the restlessness in everyone’s minds. Agni especially seemed to be freaked out at the whole situation.

"It’s okay. We haven’t been relying on the system for a long time now so there shouldn’t be any issues." Tai spoke up, seeing that the situation wasn’t progressing in a good direction.

Jayce sent a thankful look towards Tai, happy that at least someone had said something positive. After hearing this, most of them were able to take a step back and not break into utter panic.

"Ah. But what about my stuff in the inventory?" Agni piped up, despair crawling onto his face.

A collective groan rang out from within the group. Unlike Jayce who had access to a spatial ring, everyone else had relied on the system inventory to lug around their heavy gear so they could fight unimpeded.

"As long as you have your weapons on you like I told you, there shouldn’t be an issue." Jayce said, moving his gaze over everyone.

They nodded, giving rise to a sense of relief in Jayce’s features. The weapons he had handed over to these Generals were ones that Rubick had given him. Although they weren’t on the level of his dark purple sword, they were still heavenly treasures.

"We can’t just stand here all day, I need to inform the rest of the army of my theory and the disappearance of the system." Jayce said matter-of-factly.

He knew that the news could potentially send everyone into a panic, but he would rather that the army was knew what was coming. That way they could be ready and avoid any unnecessary casualties in the beginning.

"Everyone! Please listen up." Jayce raised his voice, trying to get the army’s attention.

Most of the army was either chatting quietly between each other or just staring at the sky with trepidation. As soon as they heard their leaders voice, they turned with expectant faces, awaiting the next orders.

Jayce saw their faces and froze for a moment. Yet in the next second he managed to compose himself, letting out a small sigh.

"I will be honest with you all, so please do not panic. The good news is that we have defeated the traitors who attacked us in Bastion, they will no longer be able to interfere with the invasion."

A few murmurs broke out, Jayce could see that there was some surprise mixed with positive emotions. They had expected a hard fight after the past 6 months training non-stop, yet the large war they had been preparing for turned into a 1 hour affair with no casualties on their side.

It could be understood why they would be happy. However, Jayce’s next words changed their moods.

"However, I have reason to believe that the Invasion is imminent. Meaning the invaders will descend upon the Earth very shortly."

"What!?"

"Shortly? What the hell?"

"Don’t we have a year?"

Obviously the army was not a real one in the traditional sense. While there was a hierarchy, it wasn’t as ingrained as in the armies before the Apocalypse had descended, meaning they struggled to remain calm in such situations.

Jayce could see the panic in their faces as they tried to digest this information. He could tell that if he let matters be then they would descend into chaos, they could even desert which was something that he didn’t want to deal with. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

As if reading his mind, Colin took a deep breath and puffed out his chest before bellowing a command.

"SILENCE!"

Due to Colin’s cultivation of the Divine Body Arts, the air that escaped from his lungs was like the firing of a canon. Dust and debris was sent flying into the air with his yell, suddenly grabbing the attention of everyone in the plain.

Jayce sent a look of thanks towards Colin for his intervention and used the opportunity to say some more words.

"We must not panic. While the invasion will occur earlier, I have reason to believe that it will only be limited to this area. Meaning we are the first and final line of defense for the Earth."

He continued after taking a deep breath, his countenance turning hard and determined.

"You all are the final hope of Humanity. I don’t think I need to explain to you what will happen if we fail to deflect the invaders right?"

Jayce looked around the faces of his army members. They looked back with grim expressions, yet there was no longer the panic that was prevalent earlier.

"Even though we haven’t fully prepared, trust in our collective strength. We humans have overcome all sorts of adversities, this will not be our end."

"FOR HUMANITY!" Colin took the opportunity to shout aloud, this time directing his loud voice into the air.

"FOR HUMANITY!"

"FOR HUMANITY!"

"FOR HUMANITY!"

The chorus echoed across the plain, bringing with it a rising adrenaline. Jayce couldn’t help but also shout these words, raising his arm with every chant.

As if responding to their war chant, the skies began to tremble as dark clouds congregated to the position where the brilliant ray of light had pierced. It was almost as if there was a vacuum in the sky, sucking up all the clouds.

Seeing this, the chant slowly died off as the army watched the proceedings above them. The dark clouds began to flash with an array of colors, as if there was lightning raging on the inside.

Then an ear piercing sound rang out sounding like the tearing of space.

The army suddenly felt there bodies sink into the ground as a tremendous pressure assaulted their bodies. Their bones creaked in response as they fought back against the oppression.

The only person who was not affected was Jayce who could easily disperse the pressure by circulating his Qi. However, his expression was serious as he tried to gaze through the veil of clouds.

A pair of legs suddenly came into view from the clouds, slowly descending towards the Earth and grabbing Jayce’s attention. They looked humanoid, apart from the greenish hue of the skin.

Soon enough a figure appeared below the clouds, coming into everyone’s view. It was tall and took the shape of a human, however the green skin and disproportionate features on its face was enough to tell that it was an alien species.

The eyes were much larger than usual and pure black. This paired with the small mouth and nose and the odd hair which looked far thicker than usual, painted a foreign and exotic sight.

Despite the alien features, Jayce could tell that the figure was greatly amused as it stared down from its high vantage point in the sky.

"Kekeke. Welcome humans, to your final resting place." This figure opened its mouth and spoke arrogantly. The voice sounded polyphonic, as if there were two notes layered on top of each other.

Before Jayce or anyone could respond, the figure produced a sword from out of nowhere. It was thin, almost like a rapier which seemed to suit the slender body of the invader.

Without speaking another word, the figure slashed two times in a criss-cross pattern towards the army on the ground. The slashes were done in quick succession and was almost too fast for anyone to see.

Jayce instantly felt a sense of despair as the slashes turned into sharp wind blades which bore down upon the human army with bad intentions. Without thinking, he quickly propelled himself into the air to meet the slashes, summoning the dark purple sword swiftly.

With a serious expression he held his sword across his body to block the incoming attack, focusing directing his Qi to his weapon in preparation for the impact.

By the time the sword slashes met him, they had grown exponentially in size.

SKRIIIII

The metallic sound of metal grating together sounded out loudly as the sword slashes made their impact on his weapon. Jayce suddenly felt as if the weight of a whole mountain had fallen upon him at that moment.

Almost instantly he spat out a mouthful of blood and was pushed back towards the ground. It took him a few moments to slow his descent, finally managing to fight back a little from the insane pressure he was under.

The wind blades cut and slashed at him while he tried to hold back the attack, ripping at his chef’s jacket from every direction. Soon enough, Jayce was only covered by rags on his well built frame.

Thankfully the slashes had not been able to damage his skin thanks to his cultivation of the Divine Body Arts from the golden haired general. However those slashes were nothing compared to the main attack which was still holding him back.

The figure in the sky’s large eyes widened even more in astonishment, however its snide smile returned a moment later.

It once again sent out a few slashes towards the already struggling Jayce.
