They collided like two planets.
BOOM.
Mason’s hammer met Bakari’s fist, and the shockwave carved a crater three meters wide into the broken earth. Solar energy crackled against metallic skin. Bloodlust aura flared against elephant halo. The air between them superheated to temperatures that would have killed normal cultivators instantly.
THUD. CRACK. WHUMP. BOOM.
Fist met hammer. Knee met ribs. Elbow met jaw. The fight devolved into something primal—no technique, no strategy, just two physical monsters trying to break each other through sheer, overwhelming force.
Bakari’s Vajra Indestructible Body made him nearly unkillable. Every hammer strike that connected produced a sound like ringing metal—CLANG, CLANG, CLANG—but failed to deal meaningful damage. The metallic skin simply absorbed the impact, distributed it, rendered it ineffective.
But Mason’s Bloodlust Empowerment was something else entirely.
Every second of combat fed the ability. Every hit he took, every wound he inflicted, every drop of blood spilled—the crimson aura grew stronger, denser, more hungry. And with that growth came healing. The cracked ribs from earlier knitted themselves back together. The split knuckles sealed. Even the burns from the fire user faded to pink scars that disappeared within minutes.
Bakari noticed. His eyes widened fractionally as a wound he’d opened across Mason’s forearm closed in seconds rather than minutes.
"What kind of—"
THUD.
Mason’s punch cut him off, connecting with the elephant-kin’s jaw. The Vajra Indestructible Body absorbed most of the impact, but Bakari’s head still snapped sideways—metallic skin or not, momentum was momentum.
CRACK.
Bakari retaliated. His fist slammed into Mason’s chest with the force of a falling boulder. Mason felt ribs crack—crack, crack—two this time, the bloodlust healing unable to keep up with the damage output.
WHUMP.
Mason’s hammer caught Bakari in the side. The elephant-kin staggered, metallic skin denting slightly before popping back into shape. Not damaged—but not unaffected either.
THUD. CRACK. BOOM.
They traded blows in a brutal rhythm, each impact creating shockwaves that sent debris flying. The ground beneath them had become a crater, the edges crumbling inward as the repeated collisions destroyed the terrain.
Mason was bleeding from a dozen cuts. Bakari’s metallic skin was dented in three places. Both were breathing hard. Both were exhausted.
But Mason was healing. Bakari wasn’t.
"Enough games." Bakari’s voice was ragged, strained. His elephant halo blazed brighter, and he pulled back both fists—every ounce of his remaining strength concentrating into a single point. "This ends NOW."
He lunged.
WHOOOOSH.
The punch was faster than anything he’d thrown before—Vajra Indestructible Body reinforcing not just defense but offense, his entire mass converted into a projectile of metallic flesh and concentrated force.
It caught Mason dead center in the chest.
CRACK. CRACK. CRACK.
Three ribs snapped. The bloodlust aura flickered. Mason’s feet left the ground as the impact launched him backward, his body tumbling through the air like a discarded puppet.
THUD. THUD. THUD.
He bounced across the broken terrain—once, twice, three times—before slamming into a boulder with enough force to crack it in half.
CRASH.
Silence.
Bakari stood in the center of the crater, breathing hard, metallic skin gleaming with sweat. His fists were lowered. His expression was triumphant.
"It’s over—"
A hand grabbed the edge of the broken boulder.
Mason pulled himself up.
Blood poured from his mouth. His chest was caved inward where the ribs had broken. One arm hung at an angle that suggested dislocation. The bloodlust aura was flickering wildly, unstable.
But his eyes were open.
Red. Burning. Absolutely furious.
"Over?" Mason’s voice came out as a wet gurgle. He spat blood, straightened his dislocated arm with a CRACK that made Bakari flinch, and raised his hand toward the sky.
"Let me show you... what over means."
Solar energy gathered.
Not the gentle accumulation of earlier techniques—this was violent, hungry, ripping ambient energy from everything within range. The triple sun above seemed to dim as Mason’s palm became a singularity of golden light. The temperature in the immediate area skyrocketed. The ground beneath his feet began to melt.
Bakari’s eyes widened.
"No—"
The elephant-kin raised his own fist. His elephant halo blazed to full intensity—the spectral image behind him rearing back, trunk raised, feet stamping the ground. A different kind of energy gathered around his fist. The weight of a charging elephant. The force of a stampede. The crushing pressure of something massive and unstoppable.
"SUPERNOVA BURST."
Mason’s palm released everything.
A miniature sun erupted from his hand—omnidirectional, annihilating, a sphere of golden destruction that expanded outward at terrifying speed. The ground vaporized beneath it. The air ignited. Everything within fifty meters simply ceased to exist.
"HELL SUPPRESSING FORCE."
Bakari’s fist came down.
The spectral elephant stomped. An invisible force—pure conceptual weight, the pressure of a divine beast’s judgment—slammed into the supernova from above.
The two attacks met.
BOOOOOOOOM.
The explosion was catastrophic.
A pillar of light and force erupted into the sky, punching through the storm clouds and continuing upward until it was lost to sight. The shockwave flattened everything within two hundred meters—boulders, ridges, entire sections of terrain simply gone, replaced by a smoking crater that glowed orange with residual heat.
The crowd in the colosseum went absolutely silent.
Then—
"WHAT AN EXPLOSION!" The commentator’s voice was hoarse with excitement. "I don’t believe what I just saw! Mason Croft of Heaven’s Gate and the captain of Therion War College just traded FINISHING MOVES! The energy readings are off the charts!"
Author’s note: Are we still watching a fight between two students?
The dust settled.
Mason stood in the center of the crater.
Barely.
His right hand was ruined—the flesh blackened, bones visible through charred skin, fingers curled into a claw that would take weeks to fully heal. Blood streamed from his nose, his ears, his eyes. His chest was still caved inward, ribs knitting themselves back together at visible speed but not fast enough.
But he was standing.
Ten meters away, Bakari lay on the ground.
His Vajra Indestructible Body had saved his life—without it, the supernova would have killed him instantly. But even divine elephant defense had limits. The metallic skin was cracked in a dozen places, revealing normal flesh beneath. His eyes were closed. His breathing was shallow.
His bracelet flickered.
FLASH.
Bakari vanished—teleported out by the IGF safety system, his life signs having dropped below the extraction threshold. Eliminated.
Mason watched the empty space where his opponent had been.
Then he turned towards the portal 3 kilometers away.
His legs shook with each step. Blood dripped from his ruined hand. The bloodlust aura flickered and died—he’d pushed it too long, too hard. The crimson energy dissipated, leaving him pale, exhausted, empty.
But he kept walking.
One step. Another. Another.
The portal loomed ahead—blue-white light, Heaven’s Gate sigil, salvation.
WHUMP.
Present time.
The Heaven’s Gate staging area erupted as Mason stumbled through the portal.
"MASON CROFT ARRIVES! HEAVEN’S GATE ACADEMY IS NOW COMPLETE WITH FIVE MEMBERS QUALIFIED! THEY TAKE THIRD POSITION!"
Kael moved, catching Mason before he collapsed completely. The War God descendant was heavier than he looked—dense muscle, dense bone, the weight of someone whose body had been forged for war.
"Good job." Kael’s voice was low.
Mason’s ruined hand twitched. "This better be worth it."
Sage and Rue flanked them, expressions uncharacteristically serious. Even Caelan had straightened from his lean, eyes tracking Mason’s injuries with clinical assessment.
"Medical team will handle him," Kael said examining him with his Spirit Eyes. "He’ll heal fast."
Mason was lifted onto a stretcher by IGF medics and carried toward the medical wing. His eyes found Kael’s for a moment.
"Third place isn’t bad." A bloody smile. "But next time, I’m getting first."
The group smiled.
Then he was gone.
Kael turned his attention to the massive hologram, scanning for their two final member.
Zara Moror’s screen showed chaos.
The snake-kin was deep in a three-way battle—her against an Empyrean Celestial female student and a Primal Heart Academy male student, all three at MH Rank 1. The Empyreal student wielded water manipulation, streams of pressurized liquid whipping through the air. The Primal Heart student—a tiger-kin with orange-striped fur and claws that gleamed like metal—relied on pure physical enhancement, his speed making him a blur even through the hologram’s resolution.
Zara was messed up.
Her academy uniform was shredded, revealing scaled skin beneath that was cracked and bleeding in a dozen places. One arm hung at an angle that suggested serious injury. Her snake halo flickered weakly, barely maintaining coherence.
But she was still fighting.
HISSSS.
A stream of poison sprayed from Zara’s mouth, forcing the Empyreal student to dodge. The water manipulator retaliated with a pressurized jet that caught Zara in the shoulder, spinning her around. The tiger-kin exploited the opening—FWOOSH—a clawed swipe that carved three bloody lines across Zara’s back.
SCRATCH. SCRATCH. SCRATCH.
Zara stumbled but didn’t fall. Her eyes—slitted, reptilian, cold—found the tiger-kin’s.
Froze him.
The Primal Heart student went rigid, muscles locked, body refusing to respond. Snake-kin hypnosis—one of the most feared abilities in the beast clans. Direct eye contact meant direct control, at least temporarily.
Zara didn’t waste the advantage.
Her skin split.
Not violently—not like an injury. Like a snake shedding. The damaged, bleeding exterior peeled away in sections, revealing fresh, unmarked scales beneath. The process took three seconds. When it finished, Zara looked like she’d never been touched.
The tiger-kin broke free of the hypnosis a moment later, shaking his head to clear it. His eyes widened at Zara’s healed form.
"What the—"
The three-way battle resumed.
Water whips. Poison spray. Claw strikes. Shadow tendrils from Zara’s snake abilities. The three MH Rank 1 cultivators tore into each other with everything they had, the environment around them becoming as much a hazard as the opponents themselves.
Kael watched, expression unreadable.
"She can hold out," Sage murmured. "Zara’s tough. We beast-kins don’t break easily."
"Well, she better not get too injured. There are still more rounds to go." Kael’s eyes didn’t leave the screen.
WHUMP.
An Empyreal Celestial student walked out of their portal, water still dripping from their uniform. The crowd cheered—six total now, but they’d already qualified with five.
WHUMP.
A Scorched Earth student emerged, clothes smoldering, looking like they’d barely survived. Fourth member for their academy. Not enough.
The minutes ticked down.
WHUMP.
The Heaven’s Gate portal flared.
Karacus Drakemore stepped through.
The dragon-kin was breathing harder than Kael had ever seen him—white hair disheveled, clothing torn, a thin line of blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. But his eyes were clear. His posture was straight. And behind him—
WHUMP.
Dean Hawthorne stumbled through the same portal, maniac grin replaced by an exhausted grimace. His clothes were in tatters. One arm hung limp—dislocated or broken. But he was alive, and he was laughing.
"That dragon—" Dean coughed, spitting blood. "That fucking dragon is a monster."
"ASTRAL ZENITH ACADEMY IS NOW COMPLETE! FIVE MEMBERS QUALIFIED! THEY TAKE FOURTH POSITION!"
Karacuswalked past Dean without a word, moving toward the Heaven’s Gate staging area where his teammates waited.
Kael nodded at him. "Good work."
"The idiot was annoying." Karacus’s voice was flat as always. "But he fought well."
Behind them, Dean was being attended by his own academy’s medical team, still laughing between coughs.
"Next time, lizard! Next time I’ll—cough—I’ll break those scales of yours!"
Karacus didn’t turn around.
But the corner of his mouth twitched.
Almost seemed like a supressed smile.
