Mark of Sin: Bound to the Cruel Alpha

Chapter 33: My Breeder

I was convinced everyone in the room could tell I didn’t belong to their world, that they were exchanging quiet jokes at my expense. But no one would ever dare say it to my face; they were terrified of the monster leading me by the hand. And that was the worst part of all—being reduced to an invisible shadow trailing behind his dominant presence.

We bypassed the main elevators, ascending a sweeping spiral staircase to the third floor. Up here, the atmosphere shifted instantly.

The walls absorbed the deafening noise from below, though not entirely. The heavy bass still thrummed deep within the foundation, pulsing like the sluggish heartbeat of a massive beast. The hallway stretched out long and windowless, lined with identical doors completely devoid of numbers or nameplates. Absolute anonymity. Without a moment’s hesitation, Magnus approached one of the doors, shoved it open, and pulled me inside.

The contrast was jarring.

Leaving behind the blinding neon flashes and roaring crowd, we stepped into a cool, muted twilight, where the chaos downstairs was reduced to a muffled thrum filtered through reinforced glass.

The room resembled the penthouse lounge of an ultra-luxury hotel. Low-slung couches in supple black leather framed a sleek coffee table carved from matte black stone, topped with crystal decanters and heavy tumblers.

The focal point of the room was a floor-to-ceiling glass wall overlooking the roaring dance floor below. From up here, the madness on the main level looked like a silent, hypnotic performance—an abstract, contained storm. An aquarium. We were looking down on them like gods watching ants. Or like hungry predators observing game.

The lounge wasn’t empty. Plumes of cigar smoke curled gracefully beneath recessed spotlights, floating like phantom figures in the dim air.

I instantly recognized Sayan, Magnus’s closest confidant. He was sprawled lazily in an armchair, but the moment we walked in, he snapped upright. His sharp, calculating eyes locked onto me like a scalpel, dissecting and analyzing my presence before flicking immediately back to Magnus, as if obeying an unwritten command.

Two other males I didn’t recognize were seated across the room, each flanked by a pair of Omegas. The women were flawless—porcelain dolls draped in exquisite, perfectly tailored dresses. They looked utterly contented. Or utterly hollow; I couldn’t quite tell. Their eyes possessed a glassy sheen, their smiles painted on with practiced precision. They sat quietly, beautifully, obediently. Like luxury accessories.

Without releasing my wrist, Magnus led me straight to the central section of the massive sofa. His palm radiated an intense heat that scorched my skin right through the air-thin fabric of my glove. I could feel the distinct pressure of every single one of his fingers.

He sat down, hauling me down alongside him. I found myself pinned between his formidable frame and the high, padded armrest of the sofa. Completely trapped. There was no escape route: the table blocked my front, while to my side stood a wall of muscle, leather, and lethal intent.

Magnus draped his arm across the back of the sofa behind me, his fingers resting lightly against the upholstery, hovering a fraction of an inch from my bare shoulder. The proximity felt light, almost weightless—but I knew better. That hand could clamp down and crush me in a split second.

I pulled myself inward, trying to shrink, to fade into the dark leather of the couch and become part of the furniture. If anyone had asked me where I truly wanted to be in that moment, I would have said back in my tiny dorm room—curled up with a warm mug of hot chocolate topped with marshmallows.

Safe.

Unseen.

Alone.

A heavy hush fell over the room, broken only by the sharp clatter of ice cubes against glass as one of the men took a drink. In the dense silence, the sound echoed violently—like the snapping of dry bones. I realized then how dangerously frayed my nerves were, if every minor detail was turning into a grotesque nightmare in my head.

The silence was broken by one of the unfamiliar males—a man with a striking white streak running through his dark hair and sharp, icy eyes. He swept his gaze over me in a quick, analytical pass, as if calculating my net worth on the spot.

"Magnus," he murmured, leaning back. "What a surprise. I didn’t expect to see you bringing company tonight."

Magnus offered no verbal response. He simply tightened his hand over my shoulder—a heavy, non-verbal declaration that spoke louder than any words ever could. I belonged to him. And everyone in the room knew it.

"Care to introduce us?" the man pressed, a subtle thread of playfulness lacing his voice. Yet beneath the pleasantries lurked the unmistakable curiosity of a predator eyeing a new piece on the board.

"My Breeder," Magnus said, reaching for a crystal tumbler of whiskey resting on the stone table. "Jane."

The words hung in the muted air, dropping like heavy lead weights. The man let out a low whistle, making zero attempt to conceal his shock.

Every eye in the private lounge—including those of the meticulously dressed Omegas—pinned itself directly onto me. I felt a burning blush creep up my neck, a violent shiver racing over my skin beneath the silk gloves as my stomach twisted into a tight knot.

I desperately wanted the floor to open up and swallow me whole. To dissolve into the leather couch. To cease to exist. Their scrutiny burned like acid. Even Sayan looked genuinely stunned, his sharp eyes wide with disbelief.

And right in that agonizing beat, the door swung open.

Dean Nyland stood on the threshold.

He was dressed in a crisp white dress shirt and dark trousers, his blazer nowhere in sight, the top two buttons undone to reveal the strong line of his throat.

His gaze swept the room before locking onto me for a fraction of a second. There wasn’t an ounce of surprise in his expression—only a sharp, predatory intrigue mixed with a shadowy emotion I couldn’t quite decipher.

Recognition? Anticipation? A faint smirk touched his lips, though it never reached his dark, calculating eyes.

"What’s with the funeral faces?" Dean drawled, his tone dripping with cool indifference as he glided across the room and dropped into an empty armchair with the casual grace of a resting beast. "Did I miss something?"

"We were just admiring Magnus’s new Breeder," the white-streaked male replied, his eyes darting hungrily between Magnus and Dean.

A crude, unsavory excitement edged his voice, like a spectator anticipating the first drawn blood in a gladiator pit. "It was about time, honestly. We were starting to worry."

Dean let out a dry, soundless chuckle that held zero humor. He reached for a crystal decanter, pouring a splash of amber liquid over heavy ice cubes without breaking stride. The sharp clatter of crystal cut through the dead quiet of the room.

"Magnus," Dean began, taking a measured sip while staring at my alpha over the rim of his glass, his gaze heavy and deliberately suffocating. "I didn’t think you had it in you to take a Breeder..."

He paused—a deliberate, drawn-out silence that stretched the room’s atmosphere to its absolute breaking point. I felt the muscles in Magnus’s arm go rock-hard against my back, his frame turning to solid iron. Raw, violent danger spilled into the room like heavy fog.

"...after everything," Dean finally finished softly.
