Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

"Please don’t, Sis! Sis!" Xiao Huang Mao threw himself forward, crying his eyes out. "We know we were wrong, Sis. We’ll never show our faces to you again."

"I swear! I swear to the heavens! If we ever dare to mess with you again, Sis, may we be struck by lightning and die a horrible death!"

"That won’t do," Xie Ning said, a faint smile gracing her lips. "I need you to accompany me on the road."

Xiao Huang Mao shuddered upon hearing her words.

’He didn’t know why, but hearing those three words, "on the road," inexplicably sent a chill down his spine.’

SMACK! A sudden noise came from near the back window.

"Who’s there?" Wang Zongxuan rushed over and quickly returned, dragging a screaming woman who was flailing her arms.

"Sis, th-this is Annie, from our team," Xiao Huang Mao quickly explained. "Bro, hey, Bro, Annie’s just a normal person. Don’t be so rough!"

Wang Zongxuan let go. The woman, Annie, glanced with terror-filled eyes at Wang Han lying in a pool of blood, then quickly shrank to one side. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Didn’t you say Wang Han brought fifteen of you to this farmhouse resort?" Xie Ning counted the people. "Including the four who were holding my family hostage, your team is quite large."

’Thirteen out of fifteen people actually survived?’

’I have to admit, that’s a pretty high survival rate.’

"That’s not it." Xiao Huang Mao quickly shook his head. "These are all survivors who escaped from the neighboring houses."

"Of our original fifteen people, only four of us are left: me, my cousin, Guangzi, and Annie."

"After the monster tide broke out this morning, my cousin first led us to clear out the zombies here. Then, he led us to clear out the monsters in the four surrounding villas as well."

Xie Ning raised an eyebrow.

’I have to say, this Wang Han fellow was pretty clever. He knew to seize the initiative and hoard resources early on.’

’After all, right at the start of the zombie outbreak, supplies and resources were truly abundant.’

"Car keys." Xie Ning shot Xiao Huang Mao a sidelong glance.

Xiao Huang Mao swallowed hard, hurriedly dug several sets of keys out of his pocket, and respectfully handed them to Xie Ning.

"Very good." Xie Ning appreciated Xiao Huang Mao’s ability to read the room. "Now, gather everyone here and come with me."

"G-go where, Sis?"

"Just go when you’re told! Cut the crap!" Ji Taixian stepped forward and gave Xiao Huang Mao a light kick.

Xiao Huang Mao shot him a bewildered look. "How could you guys..."

’Weren’t these two tricked by my cousin into going to Villa 85 to rescue someone? How could they switch sides so fast?’

’Is there any justice left in the world?’

’They took our supplies and our cars. What more could they possibly want?’

"What, you still have something to say?" Ji Taixian glared at him. "We’ll settle the score with your cousin for screwing us over later."

Xiao Huang Mao wanted to cry. He hung his head and followed behind the group.

When Granny Liu saw that they were about to leave, she rushed forward to block Xie Ning’s path. "You can’t just leave! They ate our food and took our things today, and they even tied up my son and me! How do you plan to settle this?"

Xie Ning took a step to the side. "You can handle it."

"What do you mean?" Granny Liu looked dumbfounded.

"Whether you kill them or torture them, it’s your call," Xie Ning said, making a gesture of invitation.

"You... you!" Granny Liu was furious at Xie Ning’s nonchalant attitude. "We’re neighbors from the same village, and you won’t even help me?"

"Didn’t I help by getting them out of here? The house is yours again."

’Is that still not enough? What more does she want? For me to tear out my own heart for her?’

Granny Liu was momentarily at a loss for words, staring blankly at the cold-eyed young woman before her.
