Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

**BANG!** The other car fishtailed, swinging sideways as it barreled toward them.

No matter how fast her reflexes, Xie Ning couldn’t stop the inevitable collision. All she could do was shove Song Kexin’s head down in the passenger seat.

**SMASH.** The car windows shattered from the impact.

The airbags deployed.

Shards of glass flew into the car, and both of them ducked instinctively.

A low, muffled roar came from the other SUV. A mangled, bloody hand slapped against the outside of the window and swayed, a grim portent that weighed heavily on both their hearts.

Xie Ning unbuckled Song Kexin’s seatbelt, punched the passenger door open, and shoved the completely baffled Song Kexin outside. "Go to your aunt! Quick, quick, run!"

"I-Is it... are the zombies here?" Song Kexin shuddered, then turned, about to try and rescue the rice, flour, and oil from the back seat.

Xie Ning slapped her greedy, outstretched hand away and snapped, "Just run!"

’Worrying about supplies at a time like this... what a brat.’

Song Kexin was on the verge of tears. Was it really worth it to abandon all these supplies? It felt like such a waste.

But time waits for no one. Roars echoed from all directions.

Song Kexin stumbled out of the car, and a single glance revealed several zombies shambling around from behind the SUV.

Letting out a short scream, Song Kexin clutched her backpack and ran for her life toward her aunt’s van.

Xie Ning turned, placed a hand over the back seat, and instantly stored away the jumbled pile of rice, flour, cooking oil, and bottled water.

She snatched up a large black travel bag and—**BANG!**—kicked open the driver’s side door, sending a rotting corpse that was shambling toward it flying back half a meter.

Slinging the travel bag over her shoulder, Xie Ning pulled the long blade from her Space and slashed at an approaching corpse.

As she kicked the body away, Xie Ning deftly climbed onto the roof of her vehicle. In a few quick steps, she leaped across to the top of the other SUV.

The corpses swarming the minivan lunged at empty air, then slowly turned.

Crouching on the SUV, Xie Ning let out a sigh of relief.

After awakening a superpower, one’s physique was generally enhanced.

’Even though I’m just a Space Ability User with a supposedly useless power, my physical conditioning is still a huge step up from a normal person’s.’

’At least, escaping shouldn’t be a problem in these early stages.’

**ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!** A series of howls came from inside the SUV. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

The mangled, bloody hand hanging outside the window thrashed desperately, slapping furiously against the side of the vehicle as it roared.

Xie Ning rolled over on the roof, dispatched a corpse that had followed her with a single slash, and quickly leaped to the ground.

She saw the owner of the SUV, still strapped into the driver’s seat. His ashen-white eyes were rolled back in their sockets, and he snarled at her, grinding his teeth.

Xie Ning watched him, her expression unchanging. She plunged her long blade into the back of his head, finishing him quickly.

Opening the trunk, Xie Ning saw that the guy had been planning to make a run for it. The trunk was packed with supplies.

Two cases of mineral water, two cases of sports drinks, a good amount of cigarettes and alcohol, two bags of rice, and two bottles of soybean oil.

’Thoughtful of you, bro. Thanks for the generous donation.’

’We’ll carry on your legacy and live well in your place.’

After her silent prayer, Xie Ning stored all the supplies from the trunk.

Low growls sounded nearby. Knowing she couldn’t delay any longer, she turned and sprinted toward the van.

Song Kexin and Song You’ai were growing frantic with worry. Just as they were about to get out to look, Xie Ning scrambled into the passenger seat, squeezing in next to Song Kexin. "Mom, drive!"
