Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

A torrential downpour lashed against the ground.

"Bro, bro, look over there. Someone’s actually crazy enough to come to the complex at a time like this?" A baby-faced young man pressed his face against the window, watching the scene outside with great interest.

"Don’t they know this place is surrounded by zombies?"

’This girl’s got some serious guts! All by herself... What is she planning to do?’

The car window lowered halfway, letting a misty rain drift inside.

The man’s slender fingers reached out to test the rain. "The rain’s letting up. Get out."

’The rain’s letting up?’

"Get out for what? Let’s wait for Team A to bring them out, then we can go down, Bro."

’Otherwise, with this wind and rain, my hair will get all messed up!’

"Get out and help that girl. You really have the nerve to just sit here and watch?" The man reached over and opened the door, then with a kick of his long leg, shoved him right out.

’So heartless and cold!’

The baby-faced young man almost cried out. The downpour crashing down on his head nearly drenched him stupid.

’He’d spent over an hour on his hair!’

Under the assault of the wind and rain, it was now a complete mess, fluttering chaotically in the wind...

’This is what his brother called "letting up"?’

Pulling the gun tucked behind his back, he moved forward with a tear-stricken baby face. From a distance, he saw several middle-aged zombies being cut down by the girl as if they were vegetables.

’Huh? Looks like she doesn’t need any help at all.’

"This young lady is pretty impressive."

The baby-faced young man turned and saw that his heartless, cold brother had also gotten out of the car.

The man held a black umbrella, his tall, straight figure standing beside the car.

Through the hazy mist of rain, his brother appeared indistinct, like a silhouette of pine and jade.

’No wonder a whole bunch of girls in the capital chased after his brother like moths to a flame. With a figure and face like that, it was definitely worth the pursuit.’

"What are you spacing out for with that dumb look on your face? Go help."

"Help with what? The young lady is heroic and skilled, her moves are sharp as hell. Where does she need my help?" the baby-faced man grumbled, but his legs still moved toward her involuntarily.

After cutting down a zombie, Xie Ning turned and shook her dizzy head.

"Hi!" A seemingly harmless, baby-like face suddenly appeared before her.

Almost as a reflex, Xie Ning’s axe came down.

The baby-faced young man quickly stuffed his pistol behind his back, waving his hands frantically and crying out, "Don’t, don’t, don’t! Young lady, open your eyes and look closely! Not a zombie, not a zombie! Human! I’m human."

Xie Ning’s hand froze in mid-air, and she let out a heavy breath.

"Young lady, this complex is crawling with zombies, you know. What are you doing here? Do you live here?"

Xie Ning ignored him, wiped her face, and turned to run deeper into the complex.

"Girl, use this. It’s better suited for you than that axe." Abruptly, a long blade was offered to her.

Xie Ning took it without thinking and looked up, her vision a blur.

Through the curtain of rain, her blurry vision could only make out the man’s pair of smiling "peach blossom eyes."

’Something’s wrong.’ Her body felt like it was being consumed by raging flames, and the burning sensation was intensely unsettling.

’My body temperature has to be abnormal right now.’

’I have to find my sister as soon as possible. I have to, before I pass out.’

"Hey, little girl, in your condition, you’d best find a place to finish your Awakening first..."

"Thanks," Xie Ning said, brandishing the long blade in her hand as she took off, charging into the complex.

It was about five fingers wide and several feet long, somewhat like a sword, but not entirely a blade.

The blade’s surface was pitch-black and seemed unremarkable, but it was exceptionally sharp when cutting down the walking dead.

Xie Ning casually dispatched another walking corpse and ran like the wind toward the residential buildings.
