Alpha's Regret: Claiming My Stolen Twins

Seraphina’s POV

The truth wasn’t just painful. It was making me physically sick.

I sat hunched against the cold rocks beside the lake, burying my face against my knees. The water rushed past, but instead of bringing peace, every sound felt amplified and harsh.

Julian will never change.

The thought finally settled deep in my chest like a heavy stone. For days now, I had been making justifications, creating explanations, convincing myself that loving him enough could repair what was broken between us. Instead, my love had only given him more ways to destroy me.

My whole body trembled, but not from the evening chill. It was the crushing weight of realizing I had thrown my entire life away. I wanted to scream until my voice gave out, but only these raw, broken sounds kept escaping my throat. I felt like I was losing my grip on reality, like my soul was separating from my body.

Right when I thought I might completely lose my mind, I sensed it. That unmistakable presence nearby. My breathing stopped completely as I slowly raised my head.

Alpha Dorian stood there.

He remained about ten feet back, observing me with that steady, penetrating gaze I had grown to recognize. I knew he had witnessed my breakdown. I knew he had heard me falling apart. The grief inside me instantly transformed into blazing anger.

"This can’t keep being a coincidence," I managed to say, my voice thick from crying. I roughly wiped my face with my sleeve. "Every single time I need to be alone, you appear. Are you tracking me?"

He didn’t become defensive or lose his temper. Instead, he released a quiet chuckle that seemed completely wrong for this moment.

He moved closer, not caring about the muddy shoreline, and settled down beside the water’s edge, gazing out at the dark lake surface. He appeared genuinely at peace, almost mesmerized by how the moonlight danced across the water.

"Strangely enough, Luna Seraphina," he said, his attention still focused on the distant shore, "this happens to be the only place where I can find any peace as well."

I didn’t trust his explanation for even a moment. It sounded like a polite way to avoid admitting he was following me. But exhaustion was overwhelming me. It had been such a draining day of acting like everything was normal. I just wanted to exist without constantly thinking about the disaster my life had become.

He turned to face me directly. "Can I ask you something?"

I wrapped my arms more tightly around my legs. "If it’s about what happened earlier, absolutely not. I refuse to discuss that situation."

"It has nothing to do with that," he assured me.

I waited, then gave a reluctant nod. "Alright."

He studied me for several long moments, his expression thoughtful. "Have you ever truly smiled, Seraphina?"

The question was so basic and unexpected that I almost burst out laughing. "Obviously I have! Everyone smiles!"

"I mean truly," he said more gently. "Since I arrived at this pack, I haven’t witnessed you smile or laugh with genuine happiness. You carry this constant weight of sadness. There’s always something haunted in your expression."

My pulse quickened against my chest. He was right. He was seeing through the facade I maintained for everyone else, for Julian, for the pack members, for myself. He was far too perceptive. He understood far too much.

I jumped to my feet immediately, creating space between us. The ground felt frozen under my bare feet.

"I don’t like how much you seem to observe or want to understand about me, Alpha Dorian," I said, making my voice as cold as possible. I emphasized his title, hoping to create distance. "This conversation is over."

He remained seated. He simply tilted his head slightly, disappointment crossing his features.

"I can see that you’re slowly dying in front of everyone, Seraphina. You’re breaking apart every single day," he said, his tone becoming more serious. "If you continue clinging to a relationship that’s destroying you, it will eventually kill you."

That crossed every line I had left.

"You need to stop analyzing me and interfering in my personal life," I snapped, my hands trembling with barely contained rage. "You’re a visiting Alpha. We’re grateful for the alliance, but I won’t accept this kind of interference. I’m going to tell Julian right now."

He finally rose to his feet, his impressive height making him appear even more intimidating in the dim light.

"I can see how deeply you care for your mate," he said, moving closer. "But I don’t think those feelings are being reciprocated in the way you deserve."

"STOP!" I screamed, completely losing my composure. "You know nothing about what we have together! You have absolutely no right to judge our relationship!"

He looked away, shaking his head with what seemed like disappointment, and released a sigh that sounded exhausted.

"I must have misjudged you completely," he said with genuine sadness. "I believed you were an incredibly strong woman, Seraphina. Now I’m beginning to question that."

The criticism hit me harder than any physical blow could have. He had attacked the one thing I was desperately fighting to maintain: my belief that I was strong enough to save this.

I spun around quickly, not wanting him to witness the new tears that were already clouding my vision. My feet began moving rapidly, desperate to get away from him, desperate to escape from myself.

"Seraphina!" he shouted behind me.

I froze, but didn’t look back. My shoulders were rigid with tension.

He spoke with complete clarity, his words carrying across the still water.

"When you’re ready to leave this nightmare you’re trapped in, come find me for help."

The offer was too unexpected, too appealing, too impossible to believe. I couldn’t prevent the question from escaping before I could think.

"What would you expect in exchange?" I asked, unable to hide the cynicism in my voice. "No one ever helps anyone without wanting something back."

Several seconds of silence stretched between us. I heard his footsteps crunching softly in the dirt as he moved closer.

"Nothing at all," he finally replied. His voice was barely audible. "I simply refuse to watch another young woman destroy herself trying to save a man who doesn’t deserve her."
