Alpha's Regret: Claiming My Stolen Twins

Seraphina’s POV

I positioned myself just outside the dungeon entrance. This wasn’t about eavesdropping, not exactly. But that steel door separated me from two of the most important people in my world - Roxanne on one side, my precious daughter on the other.

Trust was something Roxanne had shattered long ago. Elena was barely five, with a heart too generous for this cruel world, believing every word that fell from adult lips - especially when those words came from the woman she’d called mother her entire life.

Roxanne had mastered the art of twisting reality. She’d spent years weaving lies between Julian and me, creating chaos where there should have been love.

My enhanced hearing caught every word drifting through the heavy door.

"You need to be my good little girl, Lena," Roxanne’s voice dripped with false sweetness that made my skin crawl. "Mommy loves you so much and misses you every single day."

The word ’mommy’ hit me like a physical blow. She had no right to that title. Not anymore.

Elena’s small voice carried through the silence, filled with the kind of honesty only children possessed. "But why did you hurt people, mommy? Why did you make Auntie Seraphina so sad?"

The silence stretched endlessly. I pressed closer to the door, my heart hammering against my ribs. This moment would define everything. Would Roxanne spin another web of lies, or would she finally face the truth?

"Sometimes, sweetheart," Roxanne’s voice cracked with manufactured emotion, "adults make terrible choices when they’re lost and scared. I got so confused that I created a mess I couldn’t fix."

Relief flooded through me, though her words still painted her as a victim rather than the manipulator who’d nearly destroyed my family. At least she wasn’t poisoning Elena’s mind with more lies.

Minutes crawled by as Roxanne continued her carefully crafted apologies and justifications. Then came the scrape of a chair, followed by a quiet sniffle.

"I need to leave now, mommy," Elena announced with startling firmness. "Mommy Seraphina is waiting for me."

Those words - Elena choosing me, claiming me as her sanctuary - sent warmth flooding through my frozen bones.

The iron door groaned open and Elena emerged. She didn’t glance toward the dark cell or hesitate at the threshold. Her eyes found mine immediately, and despite my pale, anxious appearance, she ran straight into my arms.

"Seraphina!" she cried, launching herself at me with complete trust.

I caught her against my chest, stumbling slightly but holding tight. My arms wrapped around her small body as I buried my face in her soft curls that smelled like sunshine and innocence. I held her so tightly I worried I might hurt her, but I couldn’t let go. She was safe. She was here. She had chosen me.

She pulled back enough to study my face, her dark eyes serious beyond her years.

"Seraphina," she whispered, her voice trembling as she placed her tiny hands on my cheeks. "Mommy told me something important."

My stomach dropped. "What did she tell you, baby?"

She leaned closer, her warm breath tickling my skin. "She said you’re my mother too. Is that really true? Are you actually my mom?"

Tears blurred my vision instantly. I stared at this perfect little soul in my arms, then at the dungeon door behind us that represented years of deception and heartbreak.

I didn’t need complicated explanations. I simply nodded, tears streaming down my face.

"Yes, sweetheart," I whispered against her forehead. "Yes, I am your mom. I always have been."

Elena didn’t cry. Instead, she beamed that gap-toothed smile that could heal any wound. She cupped my face and planted a loud, wet kiss on my cheek. I closed my eyes, memorizing every detail of this moment - her complete, beautiful acceptance.

Relief washed over me that she understood without lengthy explanations. I’d worried about handling this without Julian, but somehow it had worked perfectly.

Then her expression grew serious again. She reached up and gently wiped away my tears.

"My mom Roxanne said she did something really bad. But she wasn’t trying to be mean, just confused. So I told her I forgive her."

I stared at her in amazement. Five years old, and she was offering forgiveness to the woman who’d torn our family apart.

"She’s not evil, Seraphina," Elena continued with the wisdom of an old soul. "She just made bad choices. You should forgive her too because she seemed really sad in that scary place."

The pure, uncomplicated empathy radiating from this child left me speechless. Forgiveness was the last thing on my mind - I wanted to tear that dungeon apart brick by brick. But I nodded anyway.

"You’re the wisest girl in the entire world, Elena. And incredibly kind. If you can forgive her, then I’ll try my best too. Roxanne made serious mistakes, but you’re right - she’s not truly evil." I couldn’t explain that forgiveness wasn’t that simple, but I’d shield her from adult complications for as long as possible.

I pulled her close again, breathing in the overwhelming relief. She was safe, she knew the truth, and she would never again wonder where I was when she needed me.

The walk home passed quickly. Ma and Pa sat at the kitchen table with my parents, their worried faces tracking our every movement. Theo played with his building blocks on the floor, completely absorbed in his construction project. Neither Ma nor Pa knew the complete story yet - I simply hadn’t found words to explain the kidnapping, the lies, and the devastating truth.

The moment Elena spotted Theo, she squirmed out of my arms and raced toward him.

"Theo! Theo!" she squealed, skidding to a stop beside his block tower.

Theo looked up with five-year-old annoyance at the interruption.

"What now?" he grumbled.

Elena dropped to her knees, practically vibrating with excitement over her earth-shattering news.

"Guess what happened!" she announced at maximum volume. "Seraphina is my mom now! And Theo, we’re twins!"

Theo’s block tumbled from his hand. His eyes went wide as confusion shifted to pure excitement.

"We are?!" he shouted, scrambling to his feet. "You mean you have two moms now? That’s so cool! Nobody else has two moms!"

I groaned internally, covering my face with my hands. Five-year-old logic was both beautiful and terrifying. In Theo’s mind, since Roxanne had been Elena’s mom and I was also her mom, she now possessed two mothers.

The kitchen fell silent except for the children’s excited chatter.

I looked up to find Ma and Pa frozen mid-bite, their forks suspended in the air. Pa’s eyebrows had disappeared into his hairline. Ma looked ready to collapse. Their faces displayed perfect mixtures of shock and utter bewilderment.

I managed a weak smile, walked to the table, and kissed Ma’s cheek before leaning down to whisper urgently.

"I know this looks insane," I breathed, shaking my head. "It’s incredibly complicated. I promise to explain everything tonight after these two are asleep." For now, I could only watch my children celebrate their newfound twin status with infectious joy.
