Kira’s POV
I stared at the rock roof over us. I closed my eyes, trying to sense if there was something like magic or maybe a dark force surrounding it so I could know the amount of strength I could put into destroying the roof.
Thank goodness I couldn’t feel anything come from it. No magic, no dark force.
"Everyone stay back!" I commanded.
Everyone came to stand behind me. What I was about to do might send pieces of rock and debris falling on our heads, so I needed to protect everyone from getting injured.
Immediately the last person came behind me, I covered them with a circular barrier that would shield them from anything that comes falling on them.
"Are you sure you can keep this up and also blast through that roof?" Ryker asked, concern laced in his tone.
"I can."
I closed my eyes and power began to surge through my body. I could feel it like electric sparks coursing through my body, from deep inside my core, where my magical abilities are stored.
All beings who could perform magic, make use of telekinesis abilities, and do other things that might seem impossible with magic, that power is stored deep inside their CORE.
The moment I felt an enormous amount of power on my fingertips, enough to blast through the surface, I released it immediately. I got the greatest shock of my life when I saw that nothing had happened to the surface.
I could even hear the murmurings and the worried sounds the others made.
Ryker banged on the surface of the shield I had placed them in just to get my attention. "Are you alright, Kira?"
"I am fine!" I replied, my tone laced with a bit of rudeness.
You wouldn’t blame me. I was angry. I didn’t sense any magic from the surface, neither did I sense a dark force hovering around it. Everything being equal, that one strike I made was supposed to create a big hole in the surface.
But there was not even a single crack on the surface of this roof.
Why?
What didn’t I get right?
Maybe I had underestimated the roof; maybe I didn’t put enough magical energy in the strike.
Give up? Hell no, I wasn’t going to give up.
I took my position again.
"Hang in there guys, this might take a longer time than I thought it would."
They all gave me a nodding approval.
I tried again, releasing the magic when I felt it crackling on my fingertips, but the same thing happened—there was no effect on the strike.
I growled in frustration, releasing the shield magic that had surrounded the others.
Bowing my head in shame, I said, "I am sorry guys, I am useless."
Ryker came closer, placed his hands on my shoulders. "Don’t say that, Kira. You are not useless. You’ve been the one helping us thus far."
"I am useless. I can’t even get us out of this shit hole."
"You just have to calm down. We could always find another way out."
"Oh come on!" Isabella sighed in frustration.
Before I knew what was happening, I felt a hand on my cheek.
I had been slapped.
By Isabella.
"We don’t have time for weakness. We don’t have time for whining, Moon Keeper. Weren’t you the one who saved us all from the hands of your psychopathic ex-alpha and first mate? Weren’t you the one who saved us from all the nightmares that were about to consume us?" She paused, moving closer to me. "I didn’t choose to follow because of this," she said, giving me a disgusted look.
She was about to land another slap when I suddenly froze her hands with my powers. Smiling, I stood up from the ground and took the position I took earlier.
"Behind me, everyone!" I commanded.
"Uhm, I am stuck here."
I smirked. With a snap of my finger, her hand got unfrozen. She joined the people behind me, and then I covered them with my magical shield.
I then understood that the fact that this roof wasn’t affected by my magic meant that when the rocks were put together, they were put together with black magic, so there wasn’t a need for it to still be protected by dark magic anymore, hence why I didn’t feel anything when I tried inspecting it for magic or dark energy.
’I am not failing this time,’ I said to myself.
I tapped deeper into my core, reaching for the destruction magic inside it. When I touched it, I could feel a difference in my body temperature, a difference in the way the magic coursed through every part of me.
It was more like a flame of fire.
The Moon Goddess said it—that there was no limit to the mind of a magic being. I had imagined tapping into fire abilities from within my core, and that was exactly how I felt all over my body.
I could feel the fire inside my bones, mixed with my blood. The surprising part of it is that it wasn’t burning me; instead, I felt more powerful than I had ever felt in a while, although not as powerful as when I conjure up a full moon, but it was close.
I understood better why they say fire magic was one of the most powerful and dangerous magics to wield. I had heard this in tales, legends, and folktales when I was still very much little back at Asher’s pack.
The fire became visible. My body was covered in fire. I could hear the astonished sounds the others made, but I couldn’t let that distract me. I sent the fire all over my body to my fingertips and began to form a ball-shaped fire.
"Not yet, not yet, more, more, more," I muttered under my breath.
The moment I was sure that the ball-shaped fire size was big enough, I released it, directing it to the surface. We all watched as it went up with full force. As soon as it came in contact with the roof, it exploded. All we saw was smoke and dust from the impact.
Nothing else. Or so we thought.
"Uh! That’s impossible!" Isabella exclaimed.
I bowed my head in shame, tired from the amount of energy I had put into that attack. Then I heard Isabella’s voice warning me to look out. Immediately I looked up, I saw the rocks and debris coming down.
"Shit!" I blurted out.
Before I knew it, I was covered in rocks, sands, and debris.
"Oh no! Kira!" Ryker yelled.
Isabella said, "The fact that this shield is still up shows that she’s alive and fine, right?"
Before anyone could even answer, the shield had started coming down from above.
"No, no, this can’t be. Kira!" Ryker lamented.
They all rushed to where the rocks had fallen on me. "I can’t feel her," I heard Ryker say.
"Does that mean she’s dead?" Emilia asked, her voice shaky.
Isabella interrupted, "Don’t you dare say a thing like that. The Moon Keeper cannot just die like a chicken."
"What! You call this a chicken’s death? How could you still be this emotionless at this critical moment?" Ryker shot at her.
"Maybe because you all are being paranoid and being too much of a crybaby. The Moon Keeper is not dead. We just have to lift these rocks up and help her from under it."
"Isabella is right, Ryker. We need to lift these rocks up. The earlier, the better," Marcel agreed, trying to pacify the tension in the air.
As they were about removing the rocks and stones, they were all surprised to see the stones floating on their own. You can imagine the shock on their faces.
"What’s going on?" Clara asked.
In no time, all the rocks were off, and there I stood, hale and hearty.
"How are you—"
"Alive?" I chuckled. "You don’t think the almighty Moon Keeper would die just by some rocks falling on her, do you?"
A big contented and triumphant smile appeared on Isabella’s face. "I told you she’s not dead, didn’t I?"
"It breaks my heart to see that she was the only one who believed that I wasn’t dead."
"You heard everything?" Marcel asked, surprised.
"Of course I did."
"But how did you—"
"Survive the rocks?" I smiled. "It was easy."
I began to explain to them how I couldn’t move my legs due to the amount of energy I had put into creating the massive fireball, so the only thing I could do was to cover my body with a shield. I was too weak to maintain two shields at the same time, which was why I had to make their own shield come down since they were out of danger.
"I made use of my last energy in surrounding myself with a shield, so when the rocks came falling on me, I wasn’t affected by it."
"I am glad you are alright, Kira." Ryker hugged me tightly.
"Okay, I think I have to get my flowers too?"
Everyone’s gaze was fixed on Isabella now.
"What flowers?" Clara asked.
"You know, for making our dear Moon Keeper come to her senses. Without that, she would have gone all fire lord."
"You slapped me, Isabella."
"Uhm, yes, I know, but that was just to trigger you," she smiled.
"You were going to do it again if I hadn’t stopped you."
"That’s because you were still sulking."
I chuckled. "Thank you, Isabella. Your slap and harsh words really helped."
"You are welcome, Your Highness." She bowed her head in a mocking way.
We all laughed. Who would have thought there was this side to the great female alpha wolf?
"Ryker, I hope now you know that it’s not all the time a girl needs to be pampered and sweet-talked just so they could do what they are supposed to do," Isabella said, nudging Ryker with her elbow.
As the others laughed and made jokes about each other, I stood in the middle of the open roof, wondering what awaits us, wondering if the shadow creature we had seen earlier, before falling into this dungeon with the moonstone, was still up there.
