Kira’s POV
Asher was finally here, after sending those messages and those attacks, apparently they were just a way for him to make us lose balance. To destabilise us.
"We can prevent this bloodshed, Kira,", Asher said, standing in front of me, arms folded. I could see Aria standing in front of the golden-eyed wolves.
I scoffed.
"And what makes you think we want to avoid blood shed" Rykerr interrupted.
Asher smiled. "I know Kira doesn’t want this bloodshed, and I am ready to retreat only if she agrees to come with me."
"She’s not moving an inch from here, Asher, so let’s end this as quickly as possible," Ryker replied, his voice laced with anger.
"Come on, look around, Ryker," he paused, turning around and pointing his hands at the number of wolves we had. "Just take a look, you are outnumbered, we would win"
"The Victor in a battle is not determined by the number of soldiers you have, Asher; you, of all people, should know that."
I could tell that Ryker was intimidated by the number of soldiers Asher had, but he was trying so hard to hide it, and he was doing a good job.
I noticed because, to a particular extent, I know Ryker; I can tell when he is nervous, when he’s so scared and when he feels intimidated; in fact, I can tell the moment he has the slightest emotional shift.
"Come on, Ryker, it’s over", Asher laughed hysterically.
"No, it isn’t over until it’s over." Ryker smirked "You think you can intimidate me? You think you can just come here and take what belongs to us?"
Asher advanced, I could feel a new confidence exuding from him.
What belongs to us? 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
That statement?
Who was he referring to?
Was it me?
I wondered as I watched as both of them battled with words.
Aria moved closer to where I stood, watching Ryker and Asher exchange words.
Suddenly I heard a clap sound in front of me.
There she Was.
Aria.
The one who Asher had chosen instead of me.
Instantly a wave of bitterness and anger simmered.
"So the maid, Kira, finally found a way to become something useful for herself."
I ignored her.
Focusing on the discussion the two alpha’s were having.
"You just gonna pretend that I am not here?"
I ignored
The next thing I felt was a blow to my stomach. She had hit me with force; the force sent me staggering back for a few seconds, making me lose my footing.
Aria was a beta wolf, one of the reasons why Asher had chosen her as his mate instead of me.
Even before she got engaged to him, Aria had always had this hatred for me.
Honestly, I never understood why she always had this hatred.
****
While growing up, we lived next to each other; I was an orphan, and she and her parents lived in a building not so far from the thatched roof building where I and a few other orphans who no one had agreed to accept, lives.
Several times, aria would always pick a fight with me; she was a beta wolf, a lot stronger than I was. She had a family, I didn’t have. She had status in the pack I didn’t have.
She had so many things I could only wish to have but never had, but she kept on picking fights with me.
There was even a time she beat me when we were little.
The cycle continued until I was moved to the pack’s Palace to live as a maid.
I went there at a very young age, and since then, I never saw her until they said Asher rejected me.
*****
"Kira are you alright!." Ryker exclaimed his voice laced with worry.
"I am fine," I said.
I wasn’t fine, not because of the hit but because seeing Aria Brought back so many memories.
Memories I thought I had gone past, memories I thought had been buried deep inside my heart. Plus I also didn’t want to make him worried.
His head needed to be in the battle I didn’t want him thinking about me when he was supposed to be thinking about his fight with Asher.
Before Asher and his pack showed up, we had shared ourselves.
The remaining Ryker’s Pack members were to face the wolves Asher came with, irrespective of their numbers.
Ryker was going to handle Asher, while I would join Marcus and the rest to fight the golden-eyed wolves as their strength equals that of an alpha; it wouldn’t be an easy task.
If Mira was to show up, Isabella, surprisingly, offered to handle Mira herself.
Unfortunately, mira wasn’t here. She was nowhere to be found among Asher’s pack members. It made me wonder where she was.
It made me wonder if she was not here because she was the contingency plan.
Breathe, Kira, breathe.
"Ain’t you gonna, hit me back, dear moon keeper?" She asked her voice laced with mockery.
She laughed ominously. "Or is our dear moonkeeper that weak?"
I shot her an icy glare.
"Oh! scary!" She said mockingly.
Just as I was about to land a blow on Aria, Isabella came; surprisingly, she held my fist, saying, "Do not waste your strength on her; leave her to me." She gave off an evil smile.
"What if Mira shows up?" I asked her.
"Have you forgotten who I am girl? I am the first female alpha Ryker’s pack has ever had. Don’t you think it would be easy for me to handle two beta wolves?" She smiled.
I nodded
"Who are you?" Aria asked, anger laced in her tone.
"Who am I?" Isabella scoffed "You are about to go out."
Isabella launched at Aria; surprisingly, aria was fast; she dodged Isabella’s attacks swiftly.
"I guess I underestimated you?" Isabella smirked, "Now the real fight begins."
Isabella’s eyes turned red.
"So you are a female alpha, well female alpha or not you are dying today."
"I would love that" Isabella grinned.
They began to claw at each other, each dodging the other one strikes, skillfully and swiftly.
It was a good sight to watch but I couldn’t Stan and watch, suddenly I heard growling sounds.
It was Asher’s forces; they were advancing together with the golden-eyed wolves.
I gave a signal to Ryker’s wolves to charge ahead as well.
The battle began.
Just as planned, Marcus, Emilia and the other three focused on the golden-eyed wolves.
The golden-eyed wolves that were available were three; we were six, so I was strong enough, so I didn’t need their help.
"You guys handle the other two, I will handle this one," I said out loud.
"Are you sure you can do this?" Emilia asked.
"Yes I can" I replied coldly
I had unfinished business with this particular golden-eyed. I recognised him immediately; he was the one who had come to save Mira.
I needed to ask him where she was.
Ryker and Asher, on the other hand, their battle had begun already.
I could hear growling sounds too from their direction.
"Hey, tough guy" I yelled, throwing a stone at the golden-eyed just to get his attention.
He turned to look back at me, his eyes glowing, sending shivers down my spine. But I immediately shook the feeling off me I couldn’t afford to be scared.
Being scared would only mean that I had been defeated even before the battle started.
I was the moon keeper; the wolf’s faction needed me.
The wolf with golden eyes released a low growl, his intense stare fixed on me. A smirk played on his lips, suggesting he found my challenge entertaining.
"You ought not to have drawn my attention, small Moonkeeper," he mocked, advancing. His presence exuded authority, an unnatural force emanating from him in ripples. "At this moment, you have it."
I calmed my breathing, my fingers moving restlessly as I readied to attack. However, just as I was about to act, he charged at me with unnatural swiftness. I had just enough time to evade, rolling aside right as his claws sliced through the space I had occupied seconds earlier.
"Quick," I whispered, my heart racing.
He let out a laugh. "You haven’t witnessed anything so far."
Suddenly, he vanished. I was taken aback. No—he was not gone. He had travelled too quickly for me to follow. My heart raced. I turned quickly, feeling his presence behind me.
It’s too late.
A blow struck my back, sending me tumbling to the floor. Pain surged within me as I struggled for air. I found it difficult to get up, but he pushed a foot against my back, holding me in place.
"Right now," he murmured, inclining closer. "What is it that you would like to know?"
I clenched my teeth, battling under his weight while his breath brushed against my ear.
"She sent a message for you," he whispered, his tone heavy with spite.
A chill ran through my veins.
"What’s the message?" I asked
He grinned. "She mentioned... you ought to have joined us when you had the opportunity."
