Asher’s POV
No one knew that I had a secret weapon, a weapon that’s supposed to be Forbidden by werewolves but what do I care? All I ever wanted in my life was to be the strongest Alpha that ever lived.
My dad would always say, ’It is better to be dead than to be a weakling’ I had grown up with such a mindset.
I never allowed myself to be defeated by anyone. I made sure I won every single battle.
My dad did, and every other alpha before him did. So being a weakling was like a disease to my family. One of the reasons I rejected Kira as my mate.
I couldn’t afford to be slowed down by her; I needed someone strong by my side; my mother, the former Luna, was a very strong beta wolf, just like Aria, which was why I chose Aria over Kira.
Fighting many battles, coming out as the Victor made me feel like I was the strongest alpha the werewolf faction had ever known until a few months ago when I stumbled on an alpha and his pack.
I heard stories about this alpha and how strong and brutal he was, but I wasn’t intimidated by everything I was hearing.
He stood well and alive before me.
FLASHBACK
"So I heard you are the strongest werewolf in town", he said, a wry smile appearing at the corner of his lips.
"Who are you?" I questioned
"You are about to find out"
The next I felt were claw marks on my arms. He was fast
I growled.
Blood rolled down from the fresh claw marks on my arm, but I barely flinched. The pain was nothing to me; it only fueled my rage, which was exactly what I needed at that moment.
I lunged at him; my claws extended, aiming for his throat, but he was too fast; before I could change directions to where he stood, his fist collided with my ribs, sending me stumbling backwards.
I clenched my fist and gritted my teeth, all my life of existence, no one had ever landed a hit on me so easily, but this person effortlessly did.
I must have underestimated him.
His strength didn’t seem like just brute strength; his speed and his precise attacks all felt so unnatural. I began to have feelings of doubt about myself being the strongest. He had hit me two times and I had not even gotten close to him at all.
I did silent affirmation.
Remembering myself that I was the strongest alpha that ever existed.
I charged ahead, this time with a renewed speed, feigning left before attacking him from the right.
He didn’t see this coming.
My claws slashed through his broad shoulders, drawing blood, but instead of feeling pain, he laughed.
I was about to go crazy where I stood; how could he be laughing after slashing him that way?
"Is that all you’ve got l" he taunted, his black eyes gleaming.
That was a weird thing, he is a wolf, his eyes shouldn’t be black, they should be either yellow, blue or red, but he was black.
I knew there had to be some sort of explanation, some theory or whatever that could tell why his eyes were black.
Whatever it was I was sure that it had to be the reason why he was this strong and fast.
I swore to get to the bottom of it.
Just as I was about to charge towards him again, a surge of darkness came out of his body. I could see it clearly with my eyes. It was a force unlike anything I had ever seen or encountered in my life this abominable force wrapped around me. Constricting my airflow and my movement my lines became heavy.
It dawned on me that this wasn’t a normal alpha wolf. I was fighting. This was something more, like an upgrade.
I was fighting something else
And for the first time since I was five I felt it.
Fear.
I was sure this had to be related to dark magic.
Whatever this was I envied him, and I coveted the power.
All I need to do is to find a way to survive this.
The dark grip was becoming tighter; I couldn’t breathe anymore.
I was dying.
And that was the last thing I saw until I woke up late at night.
My body ached, felt pain in every single part of my body, it seemed into my bones like a never-ending fire.
My vision was blurred, and the world around me seemed to be fading in and out of darkness. I tried to get up, but I couldn’t.
I lay on the ground, looking at the sky.
The cold, wet earth under me, felt like a grave that was waiting to swallow me whole.
I could taste the blood in my mouth, it was thick and metallic, proof of my failure.
It was a miracle that I was even Alive. Initially, I had thought that I would die when the darkness enveloped me.
I had been strong once. Feared. Respected, yet here I was, broken, left to die like a worthless stray wolf. Although I was glad for one thing mybpsck members weren’t here to watch me get eaten up by an alpha wolf.
They would lose respect for me, and I would not be able to look into their eyes due to Shame.
This strange alpha had to make sure I wouldn’t rise again; deep wounds tore through my flesh, and my ribs cracked from relentless beating.
My limbs refused to move but my mind screamed in defiance.
I wasn’t ready to die.
Forcing myself to crawl, dragging my annoying useless body forward. Each movement I made was painful, but stopping was not an option.
I had to find a way to survive, there had to be a way to survive. There had to be something, anything that could save me.
Dying wasn’t an option.
The wind blew, carrying what felt like a whisper, a voice. It sounded from a distance, but it was unmistakable. The voice seemed to be calling unto me.
It felt like something ancient, something very powerful. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Come.
My mind, body and soul were desperate to go; besides, I had nothing left to lose.
The worst had happened already.
So I continued crawling, following the voice.
As I continued to crawl through the dirt, my body broken and bleeding everywhere around me began to blur. My vision darkened at the edges, and for a moment, I thought this was it this was probably how I might die.
Then, amid the thick silence of the night, I heard it again, this time louder than before, like the rustling of leaves in the wind, but then it grew; it curled around my mind like an unseen presence.
Come.
The voice was not loud or powerful, but it resonated within me, awakening something profound inside. It didn’t resonate with a human sound, nor did it resemble any werewolf I had ever met. It was old, wise, imbued with a force I couldn’t grasp.
I ought to have been scared. All my instincts urged me to retreat, to fight against whatever was beckoning me. However, I was unable to. I felt hopeless. I was on the verge of death. If this voice, this presence was providing me with something—anything—I had no choice but to obey.
With the last of my energy, I pulled myself toward the noise. As I approached, the air grew denser, laden with an eerie presence. Whatever awaited me in the shadows... I understood it would transform me eternally.
The further I delved into the dark, the more powerful the presence grew. It surrounded me—wrapping around me, pressing against my body like an additional layer of reality. The atmosphere was dense with murmurs, voices intertwining in a tongue I couldn’t grasp, yet in some way, their significance filtered into my consciousness.
Authority. Power. Endurance.
A shape manifested from the emptiness, neither man nor creature, its outline swirling like vapour yet bearing an unmistakable heaviness. Its eyes—if they could truly be termed that—shone with an eerie illumination, observing me, assessing me.
"You pursue power," it said, its tone both unique and collective.
I gulped, my body quaking, not out of fear, but from the awareness that I was in the presence of something otherworldly. I was devoid of everything—no dignity, no respect, just the urgent desire to survive.
"Submit to us, and you will never bow down again."
The proposal wasn’t merely alluring—it was unresistible. To never experience frailty, to never encounter loss. I did not waver.
"I agree."
The shadows rushed in, engulfing me. Agony unlike any I had ever experienced surged through my body as the Forgotten Ones took hold of me. And at that instant, I was revitalized.
A wave of energy coursed through me, my body shaking as the shadows infiltrated my very essence. My veins ignited with a fiery heat, and my bones shattered and reformed as something primal and horrific intruded upon my life. The murmurs transformed into overwhelming howls, their sounds seizing me, tying me.
Then—quiet.
I inhaled sharply, feeling my body was no longer my own, with my senses heightened and more intense. I raised my hand, observing the dark veins throb beneath my skin.
"Get up, Asher," the voices ordered.
As I remained standing, the earth shook beneath me.
I was no longer merely an alpha.
I was something greater.
