Kira’s POV
I stood mute, not sure of who to help out; Ryker was having a tough time battling with Asher, Marcus and the other two, who were also finding it hard with the remaining two golden-eyed.
I watched as the golden-eyed wolves smashed them to the earth like they were nothing.
During my fight with the other golden-eyed, I still couldn’t believe that I won against him. If I allowed them to continue in this way, they would all end up being dead.
What can I do?
Think kira, think.
"Do not worry about me, I can hold on longer" Ryker yelled from a distance.
I guess he must have noticed my confused countenance.
I gritted my teeth, watching as he fought for his life. Asher was something else.
Just then, I heard a little voice in my head say, "You are the moon keeper; the moon is a source of illumination for the night; it prevents the night from being completely dark."
I looked around, not sure if the voice came from within me, or it was a whisper from someone from behind, but there was no one, so I knew that it had to come from within me.
I wasn’t quite sure of what to do; the information was too vague. In my confused state, the voice came again.
"When the moon shines at night, darkness flees, preventing total darkness; you are the moonkeeper, a special kind of omega wolf, and your moonkeeper abilities come directly from the moon goddess."
I still couldn’t understand at first; I began to pick the pieces together, and while doing that, I heard a loud growling sound; it sounded pained; I looked ahead and found Emilia lying on the floor, badly injured. Her wounds were refusing to heal faster.
I hit my head.
Think kira.
While thinking my eyes kept drifting from Ryker to Emilia and the others facing the golden-eyed. Then, I got a slight understanding of the whispers in my head.
I was the moon keeper. My powers and abilities come from the moon goddess. Just like the way, wolves are stronger and more reckless under a full moon. I would also be stronger under the full moon.
But right there the moon wasn’t full.
Also, the moon illuminates the dark, making it easy to move around.
Is it possible for me to draw out the darkness in Asher with the light from the moon? I sighed.
Even if it were possible, the moon was not at its brightest; there was no way such amount of dim light would be able to defeat such amount of darkness from within Asher.
Then the whisper came again.
"Do not underestimate your moonkeeper abilities"
I wasn’t even sure where the voice came from. Was this the moon goddesses doing, or was it the voices of the previous moonkeepers before me?
"You have to find a way, Kira, you have to...." the whisper trailed off.
The cryptic messages were very annoying and confusing to me to the extent that I had to just scream out my frustration.
I sat down in a meditative style. I closed my eyes and began to do what I wasn’t sure was going to work. Then the voice came again "You have to believe that whatever you are going to do will surely be successful"
"Who are you?" I asked
"I am the voice of aid to moonkeepers, I have been helping your ancestors."
"Why didn’t you come to light since."
"Because you didn’t need me"
"Why now?"
"Because you need me now."
The mysterious voice words were comforting in a way; at least I got to find out that there will always be a voice out there to help me when I am stuck.
With this newfound confidence, I engrossed myself in meditation.
What was I trying to do?
I was trying to cause a full moon.
I asked the voice if there had been any moonkeeper in the past who had been able to conjure a full moon but she said there wasn’t.
A slight disbelief lingered in my heart, but I remembered what the whisper said about believing that my aspirations would be successful.
I also needed to consider something important: when the moon is at its brightest, it doubles the strength of all werewolves. This means that if I proceed with my plan, I might inadvertently increase the strength of the enemy, making them more difficult to defeat.
I needed to do this. The only way to remove the darkness from Asher was to draw it out with the light of the full moon. I realized I had to find a way to connect with every single member of Ryker’s pack, using myself as a medium and a source of strength.
This also means that if I die, they will also die. It was a risky move, but a risky move that I was willing to take if it had the slightest chance of making Ryker and his pack members survive.
I wouldn’t mind dying for all of them. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
I began to imagine their faces one by one; I had a good memory, so it wasn’t hard for me to remember the faces of everyone on the battlefield.
After that I created a link, linking my soul with each and every one of them. I could tell that they noticed something in their body, I wasn’t sure how they felt the connection, but their surprised stare was evidence that they felt the link bond.
"Kira! What are you trying to do!" Ryker yelled amid the battle
I responded telepathically, as I couldn’t afford to talk physically so as not to lose focus.
"I am saving us."
I could feel every part of his emotions; he felt bad and sorry for me, and there was something else, too. But I wasn’t sure of what it was, and there was limited time to do so I couldn’t afford to investigate the feelings.
It wasn’t just his emotions that I was feeling; I was feeling the emotions of every single person I had linked myself to, including Isabella.
This could probably destroy me, but it was a risk I was ready to take.
I began to focus on trying to conjure a full moon up in the sky, something that no one had ever done.
"You don’t have to do this, Kira", Emilia yelled from behind.
"I have to, this is what a moonkeeper should do," I replied telepathically.
I focused all my energy and strength into conjuring up the full moon, and little by little I began to feel it arising.
It was happening; I was conjuring a full moon; I knew that even if I died, at least my name would be written down in history journals and legends.
The omega wolf who became the moon keeper was the first to conjure up a full moon to save her pack.
Finally, the full moon was up, and as the moon shone on me, the link I created sent unusual strength to Ryker and his pack members. I could feel them getting stronger, but I was getting weaker.
I was the medium connected to too many wolves, and it was taking a toll on me, but I endured it.
The reflection from the moon began to suck out the darkness from within Asher; I could hear him screaming, his voice laced with anger and frustration.
The other wolves were gaining ground on their attackers now; I could feel and see everything that was happening through their eyes.
Emilia’s injuries healed up faster, and they began to face the golden-eyed wolf; this time, the golden-eyed wolves knew they had found their match.
As the full moon illuminated the battlefield with its otherworldly light, energy flowed through me like a tempestuous stream. My bond with Ryker and his pack mates remained robust, their recently discovered power clear in the way they battled with fresh enthusiasm.
I sensed each cut, every shift, as though I were inside their forms. However, the more I upheld the connection, the more fragile I became. My arms shook, my breathing coming in uneven breaths.
Asher’s torment-filled cries resonated in the darkness. The darkness inside him thrashed wildly, striving to oppose the moon’s cleansing glow. His body shook as the dark tendrils detached from his skin, coiling and twisting before vanishing completely. The formerly dominant influence he possessed was diminishing. He was falling behind.
However, then, a change occurred.
The wolves with golden eyes raised their heads together, releasing a chilling, unnatural howl. The earth below us shook, and a cold shiver crept across my skin. A wave of energy, heavy and oppressive, flowed across the battlefield. I inhaled sharply as an invisible power struck me, cutting part of my connection and causing my body to convulse in agony.
"No," the voice within me murmured, tinged with apprehension. "This was never supposed to happen."
Asher’s body convulsed abruptly before being pulled back, as though seized by an unseen force. His red gaze grew larger in surprise, yet he couldn’t refrain. Then, from the moving shadows, a silhouette appeared. Shrouded in an eerie gloom, its mere existence caused my spirit to withdraw.
The wolves with golden eyes bowed.
The atmosphere became frigid.
A voice, sleek yet eerie, resonated across the battlefield.
"You’ve performed admirably, young Moonkeeper... yet you have merely started."
