After the skeletoid archer who hit that citizen was killed by the purple-haired sorceress, other undead began to come out of the forest and infest the city.

At this point, the Hunters took action, but were forced to retreat and set up barricades. It wasn’t long before they finally realized that the entire village was already surrounded.

The undead were mainly coming out of the Evergreen Forest, but they had also spread, so other parts of Agocester had also been invaded.

Amidst the screams of the citizens running desperately to their homes, you could hear the groans of these putrid-smelling things.

Stavenger, the Branch Master, raised his voice above the tumult as they fought and shouted:

"Spread out, hunters! We need to protect the city from all sides. Archers and mages, take up high positions and shoot the undead from a distance. The rest of you, protect as many citizens as possible!"

As a Branch Master of the Hunters’ Association, Stavenger was trying his best to ensure that ordinary people didn’t come into conflict with the monsters, because he knew they wouldn’t stand a chance, but asking an ordinary man not to protect his family seemed absurd. It was precisely this sense of helping others that made so many ordinary citizens try to help each other, and so Agocester Village collapsed into chaos.

The enemies were many, the hunters couldn’t be in every corner of Agocester.

Victor helped until things stabilized on the main street, but when he heard another child’s scream coming from a nearby street, he finally left the aid station formed by that lilac-haired mage and ran towards the scream.

However, when Victor arrived at the place where that specific one seemed to have come from, he was faced with many more enemies than he would have liked. Ten skeletoids stood in front of a shed door, knocking and trying to get in, and from inside the shed a child’s cry echoed.

"How can there be so many of you here already?" Victor thought aloud.

At that moment, the skeletoids turned towards Victor and he swung his sword, knocking the first skull out of place without even giving the enemy space or time to react.

The skull of this skeletoid spun in the air for a second, then Victor caught it and threw it at the head of another skeletoid, causing the two skulls to split in half. Victor had an unusual capacity for reaction and improvisation, probably stemming from his great experience, so he was able to deal with all those monsters with ease.

After all the skeletons of the skeletoids were lying on the ground, Victor stopped in front of the shed door and heard the muffled sound of the child crying inside. Cautiously, he lightly touched the door.

"Hello, can you open up? The creatures outside have already been killed." He said in a calm tone.

The child hesitated for a moment, but after a few seconds the shed door creaked and slowly opened. It was a small girl, with tangled blonde hair and eyes wide with fear. She immediately reminded Victor of his own daughter, Wanda.

This little girl held a faded teddy bear tightly, as if it were her only source of comfort in that moment of chaos.

"Who... who are you?" the little girl asked, her voice trembling as she looked at Victor with her eyes still tearing up at the corners.

"My name is Victor. I’m one of the Hunters who are protecting the city from the undead," he replied calmly, lowering his sword to show that he posed no threat. "What’s your name?"

The girl studied Victor for a moment before stepping forward, still keeping a safe distance. "Thank you for saving me, Mr. Hunter. My name is Emily."

Victor gave her a reassuring smile. "It’s a pleasure to meet you, Emily. Are you alone here?"

Emily nodded. "My mother told me to stay hidden here until she got back, but it’s been a while and the screams outside are scaring me."

Victor put a comforting hand on the girl’s shoulder. "I’ll find your mother, Emily. But it’s not safe here anymore." He then looked around, searching for signs of movement from the undead. "We need to get out of here before more enemies appear. Do you trust me?"

Again, Emily hesitated, but agreed a moment later.

"All right, I’ll take you to safety, so..."

As Victor was talking to her, a voice suddenly came from behind him.

"Hey, is that a survivor? Leave her with me, I’m going to where Maga Nathlay is." said a mage, approaching.

Behind this mage, there was an elderly couple being carried on their backs by a pair of wooden golems. For a moment, Victor thought they were Leebeth and Donan, but they were not.

Victor looked at the wizard, quickly assessing the situation. "Who are you?" he asked the wizard with a serious look on his face.

The wizard was a little confused by the suspicion, but explained. "My name is Arlen. I’m a mage from the Order of the Forest Guardians. These are my protectors, the wood golems, I learned to create them to defend the innocent in times of danger like this."

Victor recognized what the Order of the Forest Guardians was, so he was relieved.

"If you can guarantee her safety, I trust you, Arlen. Take good care of her."

Arlen nodded solemnly. "I will. Come on, little girl, let’s go somewhere safe."

The girl looked at Victor with gratitude in her eyes, before walking over to the wizard and a wooden golem popped out of the ground to carry her on its back.

Victor watched Emily walk away with the wizard Arlen and the wooden golems, feeling relieved that he had left her safely.

"I hope you find your mother, little girl."

He took a deep breath and concentrated on what he needed to do.

"Those gentlemen’s hotel isn’t too far from here, I don’t think it would be bad to go and check that they’re all right." Victor thought aloud.

With firm steps, Victor ran towards the hotel where he was staying.

The atmosphere in Agocester Village was pure chaos for most of the streets, with Hunters running from one side to the other, trying to contain the undead invasion. However, when Victor reached the hotel’s street, everything was quiet and as he approached the place he noticed that the hotel’s façade was partially damaged, as was its interior, indicating that the battle had already passed through this place.
