The Devourer of Ships’s blow against Victor Shieldman was powerful, and he, lying amidst the seaweed and coral, tried to find his bearings on the seabed.

The black sword was lying next to him, as if waiting for the right moment to be wielded again, and the rope that connected them was destroyed.

At the same time, on the surface of the sea, the crew of the ship "Traveling Mermaid" were all gathered on deck. The sounds of the battle at sea had ceased a few seconds ago, and all the sailors were looking anxiously out to sea, waiting to see what the outcome of the battle had been and who had won, Victor or the Devourer.

Unfortunately for them, the answer didn’t take long and came as a deafening boom echoed off the front of the ship.

The tentacles of the Devourer of Ships rose above the waves once again and, although still slightly scarred from the wounds caused by the confrontation with Victor, reached out towards the ship to grab it. They struck the ship with devastating force, and the "Traveling Mermaid" shook violently with the planks creaking and snapping under the monster’s enormous force.

The sea monster, mistakenly assuming Victor was dead, decided to return to attack the "Traveling Mermaid" once more and finish what it had started.

On board, of course, the uproar of the crew, who had calmed down, took over the ship once again. They were already traumatized by the power of the Devourer of Ships and rushed inside the ship in a desperate attempt to protect themselves.

The ship’s captain, however, remained where he was, watching the famous and feared Devourer of Ships finally emerge completely from the water for the first time.

"Captain, we need to get out of here now!" shouted a sailor, grabbing the captain’s arm in a desperate attempt to drag him away from the imminent threat.

The captain shook off the sailor’s hand and looked at him with an expression of surprising calm. "No, buddy! This is a moment that history is being told before our eyes! We can’t miss it!"

Even as the captain spoke, the sailors, stunned by the imminent threat, began to run into the ship’s warehouse. Those who didn’t have the chance hid inside barrels and ran to the helm, fearing the worst.

Only the captain remained where he was, at the tip of the bow, and his eyes were fixed on the Devourer of Ships as it rose out of the water.

When the captain saw the monster’s single huge red eye, he was amazed and at a loss for words to express the sense of elation, fear and joy he was feeling.

The giant monster’s massive form quickly blocked out all the daylight illuminating the deck, casting a shadow over the ship and its astonished crew.

The being’s eyes swept the ship and then fixed on the captain, and then a deafening roar erupted from its throat, shaking the air and sending the captain’s old hat flying away as blood, saliva and water flew in his face.

The ship’s captain remained standing, unshaken in his position. "It’s beautiful!" he shouted, spreading his arms wide.

Meanwhile, Victor struggled to recover on the seabed. His vision gradually acclimatized to the aquatic environment, allowing him to discern a little of the area around him. Victor felt the vibration of sound through the water, as if something gigantic was moving under the sea, so he knew what was happening. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

With a Herculean effort, he stood up, looked at the black sword lying beside him, picked it up and propelled himself to the surface, taking huge gulps of air as he emerged.

The waters were choppy, with lots of waves, and Victor didn’t have that much time to catch his breath completely.

Further ahead, the Devourer of Ships was already wrapping the "Traveling Mermaid" with its tentacles again.

Victor knew he couldn’t let the monster kill the crew of this ship, otherwise he would feel guilty about it for the rest of his life. As he swam towards the Devourer of Ships, Victor could feel the intensity of the sea around him, it felt like he was in the eye of a storm.

The sea monster, now fully visible out of the water, was also a terrifying sight. Victor’s eyes finally grasped the magnitude of the tentacles waving over the dark water, each capable of destroying a smaller boat with ease. Victor needed to act fast.

In the midst of all this devastating scenery, Victor took a deep breath and submerged himself in the water again. However, he emerged from the depths a few seconds later and launched himself towards the monster. His body came out of the water as fast as an arrow towards its target and grabbed the back of the Devourer of Ships’ head with one hand, taking advantage of a conglomeration of cirriped bones that had stuck to the monster’s skin.

With another thrust, Victor threw himself onto the monster’s head and, at the last moment before he was detected, he delivered a sharp blow with his sword, driving the sword into the smooth skin of the Devourer of Ships’s skull.

For a moment, he thought he had achieved victory, but the monster let out another deafening roar, shaking the waters around it, and once again cast that area magic.

Luckily, Victor’s sword was driven a little deep into the skin and Victor held on to it. However, Victor’s effort was useless, because the Devourer of Ships shook its tentacles in agony and one of these tentacles hit him full on, throwing him forward.

Victor didn’t fall into the sea again, he fell in the middle of the deck, and the captain, seeing that this was the hunter who had jumped into the sea, exclaimed incredulously:

"Are you alive?!!"

Victor got up from the ground, panting. "I’m still alive, but I don’t know for how long. That thing’s skin is thicker than I imagined."

"That’s because swords are useless against the Devourer of Ships, man! Someone, please, get him a spear!"
