Trawerr and Wanda’s blades moved in a deadly frenzy, slashing and piercing the spiders that appeared in seemingly endless waves. The floor of the cave turned to a slimy carpet of blood and shell fragments, and the thick, damp air was filled with the sickening smell of burnt flesh and scorched webs. With each movement, the blades tore through the sticky webs that hung from the walls, and the echo of the spiders’ screams of agony echoed in the darkness, mingled with the grunts and sighs of the two hunters.
Trawerr felt his arms begin to shake from the constant effort, his muscles burning like fire as he struggled to keep his sword moving. Each stroke took more effort than the last, and each step seemed harder. He knew he was reaching his limit, but he couldn’t allow himself to stop. Wanda was ahead, still dancing between the monsters with almost superhuman agility, her sword an extension of her body, slicing and piercing with deadly precision.
"These damn things never stop!" Trawerr shouted, his voice filled with frustration and exhaustion as he decapitated another advancing spider.
Panting, Wanda turned to him briefly, her eyes glowing with a mixture of determination and enthusiasm. "Then let’s make sure they end soon! Stand firm, brother!"
Even exhausted, Wanda’s ferocity was impressive. Her blows were still effective, and she could move with calculated precision, but Trawerr could see that she was also beginning to feel the weight of battle. Her movements were slightly slower, and he noticed the sheen of sweat and blood on her face as adrenaline began to give way to fatigue.
The number of spiders seemed to be slowly dwindling, as if the creatures were beginning to realize the futility of their attack. Trawerr could see that despite their immensity, the spiders were vulnerable to the sharp steel and determination of the hunters. But even as the odds began to shift in their favor, he knew they couldn’t let their guard down.
As he delivered a powerful blow that split another spider in half, Trawerr allowed himself a moment of reflection. He had faced many creatures before, but never anything as relentless as this. The sheer number of enemies tested their limits like never before, and he knew that if they continued to fight without a clear strategy, they would eventually succumb to exhaustion.
"Where does it all end?" he muttered to himself, wiping the sweat from his brow with his forearm. His eyes scanned the cave, looking for any sign that this wave of monsters was coming to an end.
Suddenly, the remaining spiders began to hesitate, their once aggressive movements becoming uncoordinated. They backed away slowly, as if something had frightened them. Trawerr blinked, confused, and watched as the creatures moved farther and farther away, until some began to disappear into the shadows of the cave’s depths.
"Wanda... are you seeing this?" He asked, still panting, unable to believe his eyes.
Wanda, who had just killed the last spider beside her, wiped her bloody blade on a nearby web and looked around, noticing the spiders’ strange behavior.
"They’re retreating... they’re scared. Oh, that’s so cool!"
Trawerr didn’t know whether to be relieved or even more worried. He watched the spiders disappear one by one, until only the echo of their hurried footsteps remained in the cave. Finally, as the last sound of paws scratching the stone faded, a deep and oppressive silence fell over the cave.
"I... think we made it," Trawerr said, allowing himself a sigh of relief. He felt his legs wobble a little and leaned on his sword, trying to catch his breath.
Wanda, on the other hand, looked pleased, a victorious smile playing on her lips. "That’s what I said, brother. Nothing can stop us when we’re together," she said with a proud gleam in her eyes. "They knew they didn’t stand a chance. Come on, we can get out of here and..."
But before Wanda could finish her sentence, a deep tremor shook the cave, causing the walls to shake violently. Pieces of stone fell from the ceiling, and the floor vibrated beneath their feet, nearly knocking Trawerr over. He gripped his sword tighter, his heart racing as he looked around, trying to make sense of what was happening.
"What... was that?" Wanda asked, her voice tense. The smile on her face was gone, replaced by an alert expression.
Before either of them could answer, a terrible sound emerged from the depths of the cave, echoing off the stone walls like the wail of a creature from the underworld. It was a deep, guttural sound, full of anger and pain, and it seemed to shake the very air around them. Trawerr felt an icy shiver run down his spine, and his instincts forced him to take a step back, as if to flee from the horrible sound.
"Wanda... this is not good," he said, trying to keep his voice calm, but failing as he realized the fear that was beginning to seep into his words.
Wanda, however, remained motionless, her eyes fixed in the direction the sound was coming from. "That must be the boss. The source of all those spiders," she said, her voice a whisper but charged with intensity.
"Boss? Wanda, we just fought an army of monsters, and now you want to face something that makes that sound?" Trawerr asked, his disbelief evident. He could hardly believe that after all they had been through, Wanda was still willing to go deeper into the cave.
Wanda turned to him, her eyes shining with determination. "That’s right, Trawerr. We can’t just leave now. This creature could be the source of all this evil. If we don’t destroy it, who knows how many more of these spiders will appear."
"But... we don’t know what we’re up against! What if it’s something we can’t defeat?" Trawerr protested, feeling a crushing weight on his chest. He was beginning to feel exhausted, and the thought of continuing to fight seemed unbearable.
Wanda approached him and placed a hand on his shoulder, her eyes soft but firm. "Trawerr, you are a warrior, son of the hero Victor! And warriors like us don’t run away from danger, we face it. I know you’re tired, I am too. But if we stop now, all our efforts will have been in vain."
Trawerr looked at her, saw the conviction in her face, and felt a wave of guilt for wanting to give up. Wanda was stronger than him, braver, and didn’t seem to be afraid of anything. He couldn’t help but feel that he was letting her down by hesitating. He took a deep breath, tried to calm his racing heart and finally nodded. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"You’re right. We can’t stop now. But let’s be careful, Wanda. We don’t know what lies ahead," he said, trying to regain some of the courage he had always admired in his sister.
Wanda smiled, relieved to see that he was willing to go on. "That’s the way to put it, brother. Let’s finish this once and for all."
With a last look back, Trawerr followed Wanda deeper into the cave, their swords ready for whatever came next. The air seemed to grow heavier as they advanced, as if the cave itself were alive and watching them.
The terrible sound they had heard earlier continued to echo, fainter now, but still present, leading them into the heart of darkness.
The walls around them began to narrow, and the ceiling lowered, forcing them to bend slightly as they continued. The stone floor was now covered in a thick layer of old webs and dust, making each step an arduous effort. The silence was almost absolute, broken only by the muffled sound of their footsteps and their heavy breathing.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, they reached a larger opening, a vast underground hall where the webs were denser and the shadows deeper. In the center of this hall crouched a gigantic figure, its forms indistinct in the darkness, but the eyes... the eyes glowed an evil red, fixed upon them with a terrifying intensity.
Trawerr felt his blood freeze at the sight of the creature, his entire body paralyzed with primal fear. He had faced many dangers before, but nothing compared to the terror that gripped him now. This creature before them was undoubtedly a S-class monster.
Wanda, beside him, tightened her grip on her sword, her gaze fixed on the monstrosity in front of her. "This thing... is much bigger than I imagined," she muttered, her eyes still wide with surprise.
The creature began to move, slowly rising to reveal its true form: a gigantic spider with a body covered in black spikes and legs as long as trees that scratched the stone floor around it. Its eyes, still glowing that evil red, were fixed on the two hunters, and Trawerr felt as if he were being watched by the abyss itself.
"Wanda... how do we kill it?" he asked, his voice a whisper of desperation.
The same way we always do, Trawerr. Together." Wanda raised her sword.
