Trawerr and Wanda watched as the hunters fled, their hurried footsteps echoing in the silent forest. Adrenaline still coursed through their veins, but Trawerr felt a strange sense of calm at his sister’s side. He had never seen her so impressive in action, and now, more than ever, he was aware of the unshakable strength she possessed.
The surrounding forest seemed to breathe with them, each leaf swaying gently in the breeze as the two siblings prepared for the next leg of their journey. Trawerr put his sword away, keeping one hand on the hilt in case he needed to use it again. Wanda, on the other hand, seemed completely at ease, as if the previous battle had only been a minor obstacle.
"Come on, Trawerr," she said, breaking the silence, "we need to get to the cave before night falls completely."
Trawerr nodded and followed his sister along the narrow, winding path that led to the Spider Cave. As they walked, he couldn’t help but feel a knot in his stomach. The stories of this cave were known to everyone in the region, and he had always avoided venturing this far. The legends spoke of monstrous spiders, bigger than horses, whose webs were strong enough to trap even the mightiest hunters. And here they were, heading straight for what many considered a lair of death.
"Have you heard the stories about this place, Wanda?" he asked, trying to keep his voice calm but unable to hide his concern.
"I’ve heard a few," she replied nonchalantly. "But they’re just spiders. Nothing we can’t handle."
Trawerr frowned. "These ’just spiders’ are different. They’re supposed to be huge, intelligent, and extremely dangerous. I’ve never heard of anyone going into the cave and coming out alive."
Wanda paused for a moment and turned to face her brother. Her eyes were full of determination and her smile was confident. "I know it sounds scary, Trawerr, but we’re stronger than we think. And we have something many don’t: each other. We’ll make it."
Her words offered some comfort, and he took a deep breath and nodded again. They walked on, and soon the narrow path began to change, the vegetation growing thicker and the trees closer together. The air grew colder and wetter, and Trawerr could feel the oppressive presence of the cave drawing closer.
Finally, they reached the entrance to the cave. It was a huge opening in the rock, black and intimidating, like the mouth of a colossal creature ready to devour them. The walls of the entrance were covered with thick webs that glowed eerily in the moonlight that now bathed the forest.
"Well," Wanda said, stretching out her arms and taking a deep breath, "this is it."
Trawerr looked at the entrance with a mixture of fear and determination. "I never thought I’d be here. Not even in my worst nightmares."
Wanda smiled and stepped forward. "Don’t worry, brother. Let’s go in, take care of these spiders, have some fun together and get out before they realize what happened."
Without waiting for an answer, Wanda entered the cave. Trawerr hesitated for a moment, but soon followed, not wanting to leave his sister alone. As they entered, darkness enveloped them like a heavy cloak, and Trawerr could hear the sound of his own footsteps echoing off the rocky walls. The smell was strong and pungent, a mixture of damp, mold, and something else he could not identify.
"Keep an eye out," Wanda murmured, her voice echoing softly through the cave. "These spiders can be tricky."
As they walked deeper into the cave, Trawerr felt his heart quicken. The floor was covered with sticky webs that made every step difficult. He could feel the invisible eyes of the spiders watching them, waiting for the right moment to strike.
Suddenly, a sharp, cracking sound echoed through the cave, and Trawerr turned quickly, sword in hand. "What was that?"
Wanda narrowed her eyes, trying to locate the source of the sound. "It must be the spiders. Be ready."
He barely had time to process her words when one of the giant spiders emerged from the shadows, its jaws clicking menacingly. It was an immense creature, with long, hairy legs that moved frighteningly fast. Its eyes glowed with cold, calculating malice.
Trawerr raised his sword, ready to defend his sister. "Watch out!"
Wanda, however, did not seem intimidated. With impressive agility, she sidestepped the spider’s first attack and struck with precision, her blade severing one of the creature’s legs.
The spider let out a shrill cry of pain and retreated for a moment before lunging at her again.
Trawerr and Wanda braced themselves for the giant spider’s onslaught, their heavy breaths echoing in the dark cave. The creature’s shrill scream still rang in their ears, a constant reminder of the danger they faced. Wanda maintained a look of pure determination, her eyes fixed on the monster before her. Trawerr, on the other hand, felt a mixture of fear and admiration for his sister’s courage.
The spider, even wounded, showed no signs of retreat. Its multifaceted eyes glowed with fierce rage, and its jaws clicked in a menacing rhythm. In one swift motion, it lunged forward again, its long, furry paws sweeping the air with deadly precision. Trawerr narrowly avoided a blow that would have easily shattered his bones as he rolled across the sticky webbed ground.
"These things don’t give up easily," he muttered, getting to his feet quickly and gripping his sword tightly.
Wanda, who was slightly ahead of him, smiled at the corner of his mouth, sweat glistening on his forehead. "That’s part of the fun, brother. Let’s show these creatures what we’re made of."
Without hesitation, she lunged at the spider again, her blade glinting in the dim light that poured into the cave. The creature tried to dodge, but Wanda was too quick and cut off another of the spider’s legs with a precise strike. The monster let out another scream of pain and retreated once more, but Wanda showed no signs of fatigue. Her movements were agile and calculated, each attack meticulously planned to inflict maximum damage.
Trawerr watched with a mixture of fascination and apprehension. Wanda had always been fearless, but to see her in action against such an imposing creature was something else entirely. He couldn’t help but feel a shiver run down his spine as he witnessed the speed and ferocity with which she fought. With each blow, the spider seemed to lose a little more of its edge, until finally, a final strike from Wanda drove her sword deep into the creature’s abdomen, which let out a final agonized scream before falling dead to the floor of the cave.
There was a moment of silence, broken only by the heavy breathing of Trawerr and Wanda. He approached them, his eyes wide with admiration. "You were incredible, Wanda. I’ve never seen anything like it."
She shrugged, wiping the sweat from her brow with the back of her hand. "It was just a spider. We still have a long way to go."
As they spoke, a faint, almost imperceptible sound began to intensify around them. It was the sound of movement, of countless paws crawling along the walls and floor of the cave. Trawerr and Wanda exchanged worried glances.
"Get ready," Wanda said, her voice more serious now. "I don’t think that was the only spider here."
Trawerr swallowed and adjusted the hilt of his sword. The sound grew into a deafening roar that filled the entire cave. Spiders emerged from the shadows in all directions, their gigantic, grotesque forms creating a nightmarish scene. Each one was as large as the last, if not larger, and there were dozens of them, their eyes glowing with hunger and malice.
"THERE’S A LOT OF THEM!" shouted Trawerr, trying to stay calm.
Wanda, however, seemed agitated. Her eyes shone with a kind of wild enthusiasm, and she raised her sword, ready to face the army of monsters. "Perfect. More fun for us."
Trawerr could not believe his sister’s audacity, but there was no time to question it. The spiders advanced in unison, a sea of deadly legs and jaws. Wanda was the first to move, her quick, precise blows cutting through the tide of creatures with terrifying ease. She danced among the spiders, her blades slashing and piercing with deadly grace.
Trawerr did his best to keep up. He slashed and lunged, dodged and rolled, each move a desperate attempt to keep the spiders at bay. But no matter how many he knocked down, more kept appearing, as if they were endless. The smell of blood and guts filled the air, mixing with the pungent stench of the cave.
"Wanda, we can’t go on like this!" he shouted, feeling the fatigue begin to take its toll on his muscles. He was a rank B hunter, but all these spiders were at least rank A. He couldn’t last much longer.
Wanda concentrated on killing another spider that was approaching them. When she finally got a moment to breathe, she turned to him, her eyes still shining with that strange enthusiasm.
"Have you had enough? Then let’s finish them quickly!"
The walls of thick webs made it difficult to move, and he could feel the exhaustion beginning to take hold of his body. Wanda, for all her bravery, also began to show signs of fatigue. Her movements, once graceful and precise, were now a little slower, and her face was covered in sweat and blood.
