- Chapter 1: Don’t go...
If the other guild masters are after the Terra-shard, then it would turn into a race to see who could find the lost city first.
Realizing this, Amanda clicked her tongue and removed the knife from the girl’s neck. She immediately fell to her knees and began healing her party members.
"If the four of you managed to get blind-sided by me, then you don’t stand a chance in the Void lands. It’s best you go home," Amanda said, but the girl only looked up at her with burning hatred in her eyes.
Amanda ignored the girl’s icy glare as she turned to turn her back and climbed onto my carapace.
Vibrating my wings, I took off into the sky once again. Both Amanda and I were quiet.
Though if we encountered a high-ranking player or a guild master, it would prove to be a problem, but in the Void Lands they would be the least of our problems.
As we flew, we kept an eye out for any players. After a few hours, the forest suddenly ended into a long stretch of desert.
Amanda twisted and turned on my back. She had been sleeping for most of the journey.
Every few minutes, she would mumble something in her sleep. Soon the sun began to set as it lowered itself below the horizon, and just a few hours later, the light was swallowed up by darkness. Worse, we were at the border between Heaven’s Plain and the Void Land.
The best way to describe it is as if we were standing at the edge of a cliff. The entire continent of Heaven’s Plain sat far above sea level on the planet.
This is why only a small percentage of the planet had been discovered. No one really knew if there were other civilizations beyond the Void Plain or maybe somewhere inside it.
But considering a lost ancient city was found, there must have been something.
This also begs the question: how was this city discovered?
Amanda knows but she refused to speak about it for some reason.
"We are here."
I called out to Amanda, waking her from her slumber. She groaned and groggily rubbed her eyes before taking a look into the abyss before us.
The moment she stood at the edge, her hair and clothes began to blow violently. Even with her strength, she had to force herself to step forward, and an ominous whistling sound could be heard the closer she got.
"This is it. It’s like an endless pit."
This is why it’s called the Void Lands, and the magic emanating from this place was simply incredible.
It was far more powerful than anything I had ever felt.
"We have to scale down this cliff by foot. The wind was just too powerful. If I try to fly, I’ll get smashed into the cliff side," I told her.
In fact, I couldn’t even fly this close to the Void Lands. For the last mile and a half, I had to crawl through the sand, or else I would’ve been ripped from the sky by the powerful winds.
Amanda sighed and nodded her head in understanding. Still, because of my centipede form, climbing would be a lot easier for me than for her.
Using biomass, I lowered my size until I was roughly 6 feet in length. I wasn’t sure just how sturdy the cliff side was, so the less weight, the better.
There was the option to wait until morning, but with the news that more players are after the Terra-shard, we didn’t want to wait.
Most likely, there were already players ahead of us who had already scaled the cliff. Stalling now would only widen the gap.
Slowly, we began to climb down the cliff side. I went first to guide Amanda on where it was safest. I used googlum to stick my body and legs onto the rock, making it easier to climb down.
Whenever we reached an area where there isn’t enough foot or handhold, I used my mold skill to create obsidian to create a path.
At the same time, I had to keep watch below us so we weren’t ambushed.
Our pace was slow, and after an hour, we had barely gotten anywhere.
Looking up, Amanda was just above me, feeling the path ahead before taking a step down.
At the same time, she looked down and our eyes met.
"How long do you think it will take until we reach the bottom?" I asked.
She shrugged.
"A few days."
My body shrunk in disappointment. Spending days climbing down the cliff was way too long. Originally, I thought it would take just a few hours at most.
"We found exaggerated text stating that it takes months to climb down the cliff to the Void, but one of my party members did the calculations and estimated that at a steady pace, we should reach the bottom after a few days of climbing."
Exaggerated texts, huh? Suddenly, our already desperate situation now seemed even more hopeless.
Worse, the lower we got, the stronger the raging winds became. If any of us were wearing loose clothing, then we would’ve likely been pulled off the side of the cliff long ago.
More hours passed, and soon cracks of sunlight began to seep down into the abyss.
Though the light was barely visible as it was far above us.
"Don’t think about it," Amanda suddenly said. "Even though it’s probably morning, the light won’t reach us for a few hours. And even then, it will only last for 6 hours before the sun shifts."
Her words caused even more dread in the already gloomy atmosphere.
Swish!
Suddenly, the sound of sharp metal cutting through the air echoed in the quiet space. It was immediately followed by the sound of flesh being sliced through.
I raised my head to where the sound came from, and immediately, my eyes widened in shock as thick red blood rained down on top of me.
