- Chapter 1: Don’t go...
Four sets of iridescent wings spread wide as they reflected the moonlight that seeped into the room from the large crack in the ceiling.
These wings were attached to a human-like figure covered in sleek, black, oil-textured obsidian.
Its face resembled that of an insect before the exoskeleton slowly peeled away, revealing the face that lay underneath.
"Liam!" Amelia tried to rip her hand away from her father and ran towards me as if it were only natural, but his tight grip held her in place.
I locked eyes with the man holding her back. So this is her father...
We were roughly the same height. Despite his age, he looked youthful without a single wrinkle on his face.
Though there were streaks of grey hair in his black hair, he looked both old and young at the same time.
Even though he was wearing a suit, the outline of his muscles could be seen clearly underneath
Though he wasn’t as emotionless as Amelia had described him. That look on his face was clearly rage, and worse of all, it was directed at me!
My body instinctively stiffened from the threat of death permeating from this man.
"So it’s you."
"If you mean the bastard that knocked up your daughter, then you’re right."
His brows knitted into a tight frown as he slowly raised his hand, but just then Amanda melted out of thin air and grabbed him from behind.
"No."
The two of them teleported in an instant, leaving only Amelia standing in a daze.
When she looked around and saw that her father was gone, tears filled her face as she rushed forward.
I met her with an embrace and lifted her off her feet.
"Liam, I thought I would never see you again. I was so scared."
As she cried, I brushed my hand through her soft blonde hair and asked a single question.
"Will you marry me?"
"W-What?! You ask me that now?!"
"I think now is the perfect time to ask. Your sister brought your father the farthest away she could. But unless we can escape to another city by the time he gets back, then we have no chance of escaping."
"I guess you’re right... Does the fact that you’re asking me this mean you like me?"
"I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t."
"Then say it!"
"I like you a lot."
Her grip tightened around my neck, and suddenly it felt as if her body completely collapsed in my arms.
"I want you to say it everyday for the rest of your lief lief in return I’ll be the best wife ever."
"I’m sure you will." I assured her.
I then created a small obsidian ring in the palm of my hand and attached it to her finger.
"What do you think?"
"It’s perfect."
"Argh!"
Just then, a loud grunt could be heard behind us as Blood climbed to his feet, thick yellow liquid trailing down his face.
"I still need to take care of that guy. Give me a moment."
"Be careful."
I gently set her down on her feet before turning my attention to Blood.
The massive orc staggered to his feet, but before he even had the time to recover, I vibrated my wings and propelled myself forward like a jet.
I crashed into the orc, sending him flying through the mostly destroyed building.
He stopped in the lobby where the bodies of his guild members lay spread across the room.
Seeing this, he grunted loudly and climbed to his feet, picking up a massive slab of concrete before tossing it at me.
I lowered my body to evade the attack before rushing forward towards him.
My obsidian-covered fist slammed into his abdomen. The orc shrugged off the blow before swinging its massive tree-trunk-like arms at my head.
For a beast this huge, he was unbelievably fast. I raised my hand just in time to block the blow, but the sheer force from it caused me to skate across the room.
After my training with Amanda, I had gotten better at hand-to-hand combat.
Fortunately, it didn’t seem as if Blood had the same training. He mainly relied on his brute strength by swinging his massive arms.
The obsidian from my armor cracked, and the sharp pieces from it embedded themselves into his fist.
"That exoskeleton is sturdier than I thought," he commented as I picked out the pieces of obsidian from his flesh.
He then raised his hand, and almost immediately, a six-foot-long battleaxe appeared in the palm of his hand.
The massive battleaxe crashed down at my feet as I moved out of its path just in time.
With the knuckles of my fist covered in spikes, I planted my fist into the orc’s stomach.
The spikes on my fist pierced into the orc’s stomach, causing him to hunch over in pain.
With his head lowered, I slammed my knee into the bridge of his nose, causing the obsidian to shatter and pierce into his nose and face.
My armor here was much weaker than my armor in Vesperia, but this worked out for the better.
"You bastard!" He growled as he covered his bleeding face. "Before I kill you, I’ll torture you slowly and force you to reveal where you hid the Terra-shard."
"What’s the point? You’ve already lost your guild."
"Ha! You think this is all of my guild? I have plenty of orcs under my control."
"Most of whom are dead."
His smile wavered.
"What are you talking about?"
"Before I came here, I went to the capital looking for you. I killed most of them and tortured one who happened to be a player. He was the one who told me where you were before Alfred did."
Blood clenched his fist, his eyes growing sharper by the second.
"You’re lying," he rasped as he charged forward once again, throwing wild punches.
I moved through his attacks and delivered precise blows to his weak spots, gradually wearing his body down.
Soon his breath became labored as it was a struggle to even speak.
"You have no idea who my brother is."
Obsidian spikes shot from the ground, piercing into his feet. At the same time, I stepped forward.
Blood retaliated instantly and swung his fist, aiming at my head. I lowered my body just in time and pushed myself up off the ground, sinking my forcipules deep into his neck.
Immediately, he staggered backward, clutching his throat.
From there, his movements became slower since he could no longer use magic to enhance his physical strength.
Using my hand like an obsidian blade, I cut through his body piece by piece until there were several large slashes covering his body.
Soon, he could no longer sustain his own weight, causing him to collapse onto the ground, covered in cuts and blood, fitting for his name.
"Stop."
He tried to crawl away, but I shot several strands of googum until he was wrapped from head to toe in the sticky substance.
I then knelt down so the two of us were face to face.
I’ve never had the urge to kill anyone more.
This is the bastard who hurt Lily and kidnapped Amelia.
The Monarch’s Indifference was the only thing that allowed me to keep myself calm so far.
But now that he was here in front of me, I no longer needed to hold myself back.
I could watch him die and feel content.
As he lay wrapped up in googum, obsidian spikes slowly rose from the ground, slowly piercing through his body.
His mouth was covered so he couldn’t make a sound.
He died slowly and painfully. I didn’t even receive any notifications or level up since I wasn’t in the game world.
’What a waste.’
With Blood taken care of, I turned back to Amelia, who was watching from a farther distance, but just then, there was a loud whistle in the wind before something crashed into the ground.
Rubble and dust rose from the impact, but when the dust cleared, what was left in the crater was a beast with scaly, reptilian wings and deep flame-colored eyes.
