- Chapter 1: Don’t go...
The structures of the castle cracked and split apart as large pieces of rubble collapsed from the ceiling.
The Nymph reacted quickly, and immediately a web of vines grew above us to catch the rubble and hold the destroyed walls together.
"They’re here," the Nymph said in a cold voice, her emerald eyes piercing like a predator.
It was as if she had turned into a different person, and it was honestly terrifying to see an S-ranked monster like this. It was like when you piss off a mother bird by going near its chicks.
"Don’t worry, okay. I’ll protect our home." She chirped, her sweet tone returning for just a moment as she gently placed me down on the ground.
Before I could protest, she was already gone, moving so fast that it seemed as if she had teleported. The only trace of her presence left behind was a strong gust of wind along with a flowery scent.
For now, I had to let her be. If I followed her, then I would only be getting in the way, which could cause her to get killed.
I bet most of the strong players would be targeting her, so all I had to do was pick off the weaker ones to gain the biomass I needed. But I had to act quickly before anything happened to her.
Almost immediately as the Nymph exited, a clash of energy could be felt as the entire castle trembled once again.
With the evolutionary creatures I had selected behind me, I exited the castle and onto the battlefield waiting for me outside.
There I saw scores of players fighting against giant tree monsters who stood over 7 feet tall. Each of these monsters looked powerful, as one of them was able to take down an entire party of seasoned players with ease.
Each plant monster was connected by intricate root systems that ran deep underground.
These tree monsters didn’t seem like real monsters since no amount of hits could take them down.
They were more like puppets which the Nymph was controlling all while fighting for her life. The ground itself split apart and from it rose a monsterous fly catcher. The monster swallowed the players whole as they screamed and tried their best to fight back but it was to no avail.
There were also powerful vines that whipped with a strong enough force to decapitate several players at once. Some of the vines even had spikes which punctured the players ad it wrapped around them, Snapping Snapping bones in the process.
I made sure to keep out of sight while hovering above the battlefield. My target was the weaker players who I could easily take down.
As I floated in the sky watching the battle unfold, I soon noticed a certain group
It was a group of orcs who looked much weaker than the others, hence I found my first target. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
It was unlikely this many orcs were players, so something else must have been at play. Maybe a title, or a weird talent or spell.
It could’ve been any number of things. Most NPC orcs had low intelligence, roughly equivalent to that of a 5-year-old. This makes it difficult for them to learn spells and high-level skills.
Most classes were useless to them even if they were born with it. But luckily for their species, they were blessed with explosive power.
Their physical strength outmatched most other races, which is why orcs had an E-ranked threat level.
Without wasting another second, I flew towards the orcs, attacking them from above.
I learned that my venom isn’t effective on creatures that rely on mana to increase their physical stats.
Case in point, the dungeon rats. When I used my weak venom on the dungeon rat at first, it caused the creature to become even more aggressive, which caused a spike in its strength.
I wasn’t a hundred percent sure that the same thing would happen if I used it on an orc, but I didn’t want to risk such already powerful creatures going berserk.
I decided to target the orc charging at the front since he was breaking away from the mob due to his speed. I used my earth control skill to soften the ground, turning it into mud.
The moment the orc stepped on the slippery patch, it stumbled and almost lost its balance.
That fraction of a second was my opportunity to attack, and without a moment’s hesitation, I burst forward, carried by the explosive power of my wings as I dug the pointed stinger at my rear into the beast’s heart.
The orc clutched onto my stinger in its final moments. Its strength was still fierce, but at this point it wasn’t enough to cause any damage.
The beast’s knees were the first to give out as the monster collapsed to the ground.
[You have slain an E-ranked orc.]
More orcs charged at me, swinging their axes and clubs. I moved between their attacks with ease as I waited for the perfect time to strike. Then, when the moment was right, I planted my stinger into their vitals, ending their lives with a single attack.
Another orc tried to attack from behind, but the moment it surged forward, the earth itself rose up and wrapped around the beast’s feet, causing it to trip and almost fall.
The spell wasn’t stable enough to knock the beast off its feet, but still the beast was vulnerable for a fraction of a second after stumbling.
It was completely at my mercy, but before I could complete the kill, something hard slammed into my back and smashed me to the ground.
An orc had snuck up on me with its club. While casting spells, I had to neglect my senses since I didn’t have enough consciousness to spare.
This is why I hadn’t mastered any of my spells yet since I didn’t have a set consciousness to outsource this task to.
The moment my body hit the ground, it felt as if more than 20 orcs had spawned above me, their weapons raised, ready to slay the insect beneath their feet.
My mind was a blur, but I concentrated everything I had on one final stand.
