Li Chenlin stared at the food on the table in disbelief. He took another bite of the roasted lamb and crispy braised pigeon, a strange expression taking over his face.

The food was so delicious it was almost unnatural.

Li Chenlin’s eyes darkened slightly. He gave a grim smile and leaned down to kiss her.

The kiss ended.

Li Chenlin looked at her with great interest. "Little meat rabbit, come back to the Southern Country with me. You’ll be valued there, the most cherished treasure of the Southern Country people."

When Bai Su saw Yarko, her eyes instantly lit up. "Grandpa!"

The old man gave her a reassuring look, then turned to the giant snake. "Li Chenlin, it’s you, isn’t it? Since when has the uncrowned king of the underworld stooped to such petty thievery?"

Li Chenlin sneered. He enveloped Bai Su with his spiritual power and released his primal beast form. A colossal python erupted from the ground, its body so thick that it would take two adults to encircle it.

The snake’s head loomed high above, looking down on the old man as if he were an ant. "Old man, I advise you not to meddle in things that don’t concern you."

The old man remained unmoved, standing elegantly in the way, his figure tall and slender.

He wore a white tunic suit, looking like some kind of ethereal, reclusive master.

Li Chenlin scoffed, and the snake’s head dove down, its maw opening to bite off the old man’s head.

Bai Su’s heart tightened at the sight. "Grandpa, look out!"

Unhurried, the old man pulled a packet of powder from his sleeve and threw it.

Li Chenlin let out a sudden grunt. His body shrank rapidly, and he fled.

Bai Su: "..."

’Huh? That’s it?’

She stared dumbfounded as he ran away, not even noticing when the spiritual power suppressing her had vanished.

The old man walked up to her and smiled gently, his posture as elegant as an ancient nobleman’s. "What’s wrong? Scared silly?"

Bai Su quickly shook her head. But when she met the old man’s gaze, she suddenly frowned. "Grandpa, something seems different about you. Your eyes look brighter... more full of life..."

It seemed to be his eyes. She didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she felt they looked much younger. The color was clear and bright, and the whites were clean.

If she ignored everything else and just looked at his eyes, she would have almost thought they belonged to a young man.

Yelias’s lips curved. He raised a hand to pat her head, imitating Yarko’s tone of voice. "You silly girl, are you complimenting Grandpa or complimenting yourself?"

Bai Su scratched her head. "What do you mean?"

Yelias said, "I’m always eating at your restaurant. Your food has healed so many of my old ailments, so of course my eyes have gotten healthier."

Hearing this, Bai Su nodded, and the doubt in her heart was dispelled.

She smiled at the old man. "Why did you come over so late? Are you alone again? It’s not safe to walk at night, you know. What did I tell you last time?"

Yelias’s lips curved into a smile as he handed her something. "I came to bring you some ingredients."

Bai Su took the item from his hand and saw that it was some live fish, but of a kind she had never seen before.

Yelias said, "This is a special fish from the far north. The meat is tender and has a sweet aftertaste. It’s rare for me to catch this many, so of course I had to bring them to you, so their flavor wouldn’t be wasted."

Bai Su’s eyes lit up instantly at his words. "That’s wonderful! In that case, Grandpa, you should come for dinner tomorrow. I’ll cook the fish for you. I’ll save you a spot at the restaurant."
