Gao Wenbin frowned, “Why didn’t you take the minibus? Why did you run out here on your own?”

“I rode the tricycle because the shop had deliveries. I missed a bus and the next one was two hours later, so I was anxious and took the vehicle out, thinking it wouldn’t be a big deal to head back to the farm. Little did I know I would run into… them.”

Li Pan explained weakly, shrinking his neck, not daring to look up.

“Xue Dong will be here soon; you can explain it to him. But first, come back to the base with me to make a record.”

“Why did you choose to ride a tricycle today instead of taking the minibus?”

“Oh, I have a shop at the Farmer’s Market, and it ran out of stock. My child called me to deliver more goods, so I missed the bus at noon. Waiting for the next minibus would take two hours, and I was anxious, so I drove my own tricycle back, thinking this route was regularly trafficked and relatively safe.”

“Aren’t you afraid of robbers?”

“Actually, I haven’t encountered robbers in these years; it’s quite safe. The Patrol Team is patrolling all day and night in three shifts, so there really hasn’t been such an incident before. This is the first time it’s happened.”

“I heard you rented two farms; can you manage them without any disasters?”

“It’s manageable. I’ve hired superpower users who work very hard. There are definitely disasters, but we can pull through by working together. Does this have something to do with the robbers?”

Li Pan asked quietly, slightly furrowing her brow.

“Of course, it’s related. Maybe it’s your apparent wealth that made the robbers target you. Just answer my questions truthfully, that’s all.”

The female inspector’s demeanor suddenly became stern, adopting a somewhat domineering attitude.

“Where did this idea of care come from? Every exchange I’ve made is on record; you can verify it yourselves. We indeed grew up under the Base Commander’s care, so I mostly sell farm produce to the base because it’s simpler and the money comes back faster. But as for what you mentioned about special treatment, there is none.”

Li Pan seemed to realize something.

“Are you sure? If we find anything inappropriate, your farm might also be repossessed.”

“Are you sure you’re inquiring about the robbery, or are you trying to entrap me? What’s your badge number? I need to record it.”

“You don’t have the right to know my badge number.”

The female inspector probably had never faced such doubt before. She abruptly stood up and slammed the table, her demeanor changing instantly, her eyes filled with disdain and contempt.

Li Pan slowly stood up, unleashing the intimidating pressure of a high-level Wood Power User, pressing down heavily, with vines appearing behind him, swaying accordingly.

Li Pan’s tone was calm, even gentle, showing no signs of anger, only that the vines gradually multiplied, taking control of the entire room, densely filling it with vines.

Li Pan calmly reminded her, you’re doomed if you try, I won’t go easy on you.

It was then that Xue Dong finally spoke up, opening a crack in the door which was blocked by the Star Tree.

Li Pan retracted the vines, the room reverted back to normal, and she sat down, but didn’t retract her domain.

The Base Commander followed right behind, entering the room.

He glanced at the female inspector, his face as dark as the bottom of a pot.

Vines snatched the notebook from her hand and handed it to the Base Commander, “You should take a look at this, to prevent us both from being framed. I need to know her badge number, I want to file a complaint.”

Li Pan directly filed a complaint.

“Don’t talk nonsense.”

The female inspector, accustomed to throwing her weight around, had never been treated like this before.

The Inspection Team wielded significant power; each base dreaded them for they could concoct a list of charges and mistakes leading to the base being penalized, their resources docked, and subjected to further rectification and oversight with new personnel installed to supervise, which was extremely bothersome.

But Li Pan was a common citizen, not an official, and you can’t lord it over me, I have the right to appeal if you bully me.

As long as someone appeals, the Inspection Team has to make rectifications, take a break, and suspend their work. The higher-ups care a lot about public opinion and deal with the issues promptly.

The Base Commander glanced at her notebook pocketed it, and then slapped her across the face.

The female inspector, having been slapped across the face, looked at the Base Commander furiously, yet dared not retaliate.

“Lock her up.”

The Base Commander ordered.
