They finally decided to build a small factory on No.7 Farm and set up two sets of equipment, bringing everything together for debugging. No.9 Farm would then gradually add more equipment.
The people from Dongshan would not be able to come over until summer, so there was no rush at the moment and still time.
No.7 Farm was also building one because there was enough land available for growing a good amount of wheat straw. Since there were only a few dairy cows currently, the plan was to breed more. Everyone would focus on their own tasks; if successful, they’d earn extra money, but if they failed, they would start with No.7 Farm, learn from the failures and then scale up at No.9 Farm. This way, even if they took losses, it wouldn’t be crippling.
If they made money, they wouldn’t need to worry about having an extra set of equipment or taking up more space. Even if they failed, they could still recoup some losses by selling fresh milk.
Several breeds of cows had also been transported over, including some horses, which could also be sold in the future.
Can you believe it, in the face of natural disasters, many people couldn’t get enough to eat, yet the rich district was able to maintain their pre-disaster lifestyles with virtually no difference—and they even had their own equestrian centers for training, engaging in posh activities for exercise.
The base needed some horses for transport, as they were much more flexible than cars, gasoline was hard to find, and resources were almost depleted. A change in thinking was necessary, avoiding excessive dependence on machines.
In addition, as the ranch expanded, raising more cattle and sheep would increase the output of meat products, allowing more civilians to eat poultry and meat. The idea from above was to increase breeding and planting efforts, gradually moving away from consuming mutant animals.
Actually, it had been known for a while that eating mutant animals wasn’t good, but when there was nothing else to eat, what choice did people have? Naturally, if there was an option, they wouldn’t eat them—you just need to have that option.
The freshwater lake and water reservoir area had already been stocked with aquatic plants and fry, regardless, it was essential to start raising something.
The breeding area had also been completed, distributed across several corners of the farm, breeding more pigs. Cattle had their own breeding area, divided into beef and dairy sections, which were not the same.
Sheep had their own place as well, and required grazing.
Chicken, duck, and goose breeding areas were built around the lake, and this time there was enough space to raise more without fear of having nothing to eat.
This time, it wasn’t just black oats they were planting—they were going to put more effort into planting better grass, adding giant grass to the mix.
Giant grass, with an annual yield exceeding 25 tons per acre, can be harvested continuously for over 15 years after planting just once. Giant grass has higher nutritional value than other grasses, and is a beloved multifunctional forage by animals like cattle, sheep, rabbits, horses, geese, and grass carp. With high sugar content, it’s sweet and palatable, as well as easy to digest and absorb, making it a superior choice among forages.
Giant grass prefers high temperatures and fertile, well-watered conditions but doesn’t endure waterlogging well, therefore it should be planted in well-drained, deep soil with good sun exposure. It can be sown in both spring and fall, with spring sowing extending the harvesting period and producing fresher and more tender grass.
There’s also Purple Alfalfa, which is rich in polysaccharides, soy flavonoids and isoflavones, and various growth-promoting factors that are yet to be identified. Alfalfa has physiological functions in livestock production such as improving animal performance, immune system, antioxidant capacity, meat quality, and regulating intestinal microbiota balance. It has wide applications in dairy farming.
Known as the "king of protein" among forages, alfalfa has a very high protein content. Its main features are easy cultivation, with little management required for survival, and high levels of protein and amino acids, satisfying almost all of an animal’s amino acid requirements. Additionally, it’s tender and juicy, making it very palatable, and the fresh grass can be fed directly to livestock.
They also deliberately planted Scented Grass, which grows well in both the south and north and can be harvested 4 to 5 times a year. The grass is tender and juicy, with a unique pine scent, making it highly palatable to cattle, sheep, rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese, and herbivorous fish.
Last, they planted Imperial Bamboo Grass, a high-yielding, premium forage grass suitable for feeding to herbivorous livestock such as cattle and sheep, as well as poultry and fish. Once planted, it can be harvested continually for 15 years, with 4 to 8 cuts per year and an average yield of about 20 tons per acre. It’s highly resilient, tolerating high heat, drought, and light frost.
The forage seed bases inherently had them, but the exchange prices were also higher than for regular black oats. This time, after repeated discussions with everyone at the farm, Li Pan and the others selected targeted and comprehensive types of fodder, which complemented each other’s strengths and weaknesses. There were varieties that could withstand cold and drought, as well as sweet, juicy ones that were good for dairy cows, and even ones suitable for fish and poultry, ensuring that everyone had something to eat and could be used for green storage pits.
The seeds had already been planted in designated areas, this time pushed by Li Pan, who personally infused them with superpower and provided purification and organization, boosting the seeds’ life force to ensure their strong growth.
Considering that No.9 Farm would later focus on planting more forage and grain as a supplement, No.8 Farm would not plant forage anymore. No.7 Farm and No.9 Farm would specialize in planting various forages to feed animals.
The area that No.8 Farm vacated would later be used for planting more grain, with slight adjustments made accordingly.
Once the factory buildings were completed and the preliminary tasks were taken care of, the rainy season arrived in May, bringing three days of heavy rain in one go.
Everyone was very happy, now there was no need to water the fields.
Three days later, when the rain stopped, Li Pan was the first to go and check on her Spirit Plants and forest ginseng and such.
To her delight, the energy that came with the rain had caused the Spirit Plants and the forest ginseng to grow significantly. The Spirit Plants had grown taller and now looked like small saplings, taller than her own height, about two meters tall.
She immediately set about purifying and organizing the Spirit Plants and the surrounding trees. The Spirit Plants stretched their leaves comfortably, showing their good mood.
She also timely delivered a large wave of superpower to them for even better growth.
Only then did she go to check on the other plants in the fields, purifying and organizing each one. This skill was very useful. After completing the purification and organization, she channeled superpower into them, multiplying their effects and promoting better growth of the trees and plants, as well as vigorous life force. For medicinal materials, this would result in stronger medicinal properties.
There was still a lot to do at No.9 Farm, so once the storm stopped, everyone hurried off to work, busy with tasks in the fields.
No.9 Farm employed ten superpower users to work, all under the management of Qin Jianzhong and Shi Lei, who were familiar with and good at managing them.
Li Pan hadn’t interacted much with these people, only initially treating their injuries when they signed the contract. Subsequently, Qin Jianzhong and the others assigned them their work and other matters. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
With the possibility of more rain to come, Li Pan meticulously inspected the waterways of No.7 Farm to ensure they were ready for drainage and other concerns.
After seven or eight days of sunshine had passed and things had just started to heat up, another five days of rain came down. This rainfall seemed different, as the energy it carried was particularly rich.
When the rain stopped, Li Pan was astonished to find that the Earth Dragon Fruit had grown large, reaching over eight meters tall and that the trunk had thickened considerably, showing a faint golden color that was particularly eye-catching.
She paused for a moment then hurriedly set about purifying and organizing it, discovering that the Earth Dragon Fruit had indeed grown significantly and its spirituality had become even more substantial. She played with it for a while before stepping out.
Next, she went to purify and organize the Five Elements Spiritual Fruit. It, too, had grown significantly due to the influence of the energy, with the trunk thickening by two layers and turning to a gray-white color. The branches had forked, and it seemed to her that a few fruits had formed on the Spiritual Fruit Tree.
