The system confirmed, and even after, White’s shock remained before eventually fading into a grin.

"That’s interesting."

He had burned off his cigarettes now, throwing away the little left before sliding down the railings to his door.

"Nova would be sad if you died."

Morgaine suddenly said, and White paused, the card pausing an inch away from the card reader.

"She’s just recovering from a world of pain, and... you’re one of the things keeping her anchored to this life."

"I don’t think she’ll survive going through the pain that will come from you dying, so...don’t die."

She said to him, and he quietly smiled, saying without turning.

"You care a lot about her."

BEEP!

The sound of the door beeping echoed as his door shut, leaving only Morgaine on the railings.

She remained there quietly, before her gaze slowly turned to the sky, and then her lips curved with a smile.

"I do care about her. She’s my first friend after all."

Her hands moved around her body, holding her knees tight to her chest and in the moment.

FLICKER!

A flicker of pink light shone over the railing as Morgaine’s hands shifted into long claws glowing with pink light that burned the air around them.

"And... I think I might care about you, too."

The elevator made a beeping sound as White stepped out, finding the base floor of the tower filled with the teleporters and more elevators.

His eyes turned to the large revolving glass door, and he stepped forward, pushing open the glass.

The early morning breeze slammed on his face, and he took it all in with a hug.

"Haaa, it’s a beautiful day."

White said, and with a skip to his step, he jogged down the empty streets.

Finally, it was time to escape the stifling and boring confines of the Newcomers that had held onto his neck all these past two weeks.

The Upper Vest Building...

It was a unique building that stood on the periphery of both the Newcomer sector and the 2nd year sector.

But one would barely see a student go into it, nor an instructor.

In fact, White had never seen it open before, yet not once did the building look like it was abandoned.

It was always sparkling clean and looking fresh as if activity was ongoing, even though most times the front door was barren.

He arrived before the building, and a smile tugged on his lips as he found the usually closed purple gate wide open, as if expecting his entrance.

His spine unconsciously straightened, feeling some bit of importance, and he stepped into the building, though his face changed massively the second he entered.

"Activate..."

He tried to say, but then.

CLAAAAAAAAAMP!

Space around him collapsed into nothing as a massive maw covered in purple scales clamped down on White, devouring him in an instant.

White screamed as he yanked up from the ground, but then

"He screamed no! Hahaha."

"Like a pussy, NOUUU, UUU, UUU."

"Poor dude didn’t wanna die young, hahaha."

Deafening laughter filled the room, prompting White to look around.

All around him was just an endless blank sheet of white space spreading as far as the eye could see.

Just a few meters away from him, there were a total of seven seats, with six of them filled by these students. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Looking at their uniforms made Whit pause.

A total of four second years and two third years.

The second year was mocking him, while the third year couldn’t care less.

They were reclining on their chair, eyes closed.

"Tsk, made it seem like getting devoured whole by a maw 10 times your size is a weakness. Which one of you didn’t scream?"

White shot back at them.

"Actually,"

A lanky, green-haired dude responded.

"None of us did, except him."

He said, pointing at another 2nd year who had his legs on the chair, hugging his knees tightly as his body repeatedly quivered.

"Aaron is the coward of the group."

A female 2nd year said from the side, blowing out a large gum from her lips while tapping away at her tablet device.

"He won’t have a problem turning you to dust with a frightened scream of his, though."

The green-haired dude completed, and White scoffed, heading towards the remaining vacant seat.

"What is he, a banshee?"

He asked,

"We all suspect that."

The last of the 2nd year said.

He was a refined-looking dude, handsome, with blue hair and eyes.

He also had spectacles on his face, with a chain around them, giving him a calm, scholarly look.

"I’m guessing you’re White Sinclaw. You should be the only one eligible to join in on the Academy Interchange."

He spoke.

"Academy Interchange?"

White picked up on that, but before the man could respond.

FLICKER!

A bright blue flicker filled the room, drawing everyone’s attention forward.

There, floating high above all 7, a blue door had appeared, one that White found really familiar.

Stepping out was not one but two female instructors, and the sight of them made his brow crease.

They were the same two women whom he had met back in Dongard city at the awakening ceremony.

The one who had brought him and Nova here.

"Vice Amora Mimora."

The two third years called out, with a slight bow of their heads, while the 2nd years and White remained more or less quiet and clueless.

The name left them in confusion.

Are they greeting both of them, Amora and Mimora, or greeting one and ignoring the other?

The latter choice seemed unlikely as both instructors nodded their heads to the greetings simultaneously.

"Some of you might have already heard of it."

The lady with the long pink hair began.

"This is a mission from the academy. An Interchange Mission to be exact."

"What is an Interchange Mission?"

White asked.

He felt like everyone understood what that was since they were all nodding, but he was beyond confused.

One way to fail a mission before it even began was to get the assignments wrong by pretending to understand the terms.
