Expressions varied. Each had their own thoughts. It wasn’t the first time Kain had requested their loyalty. It wasn’t the first time he told them the price of betrayal.
But when they thought about what they saw in the waters that day. They had no intention of rejecting him if those were the powers he could give.
They all thought the firepower Kain had shown was his own doing. They couldn’t understand it, but they knew the world had changed.
Their expressions gradually shifted. Thinking about the strength and abilities they could possess, only a fool would say no.
Matthew in particular remembered the fight against the swordfish.
He had looked back when Kain was fighting them, and he saw the strength he had exerted. He thought back to the fire in the water.
It had burned the waters around it.
Though no one voiced their amazement, they talked about it privately. What Kain could do wasn’t normal. And now he was telling them they had the chance to have that strength.
As a man who doesn’t want to become stronger?
So after less than a minute, all five of them enthusiastically exclaimed and were ready to show their loyalty. Claire tilted her head to the side, her own way of showing loyalty.
Their smiles made Kain want to beat them. This response wasn’t what he expected. But at least it meant they were willing to stay.
Helplessly, he turned to Amelia. She shrugged, giving him a look that said, ’You caused it.’
"Good," he replied, expression restrained. "What I’m about to tell you, I’m sure you have guessed. You had all seen the scene, the fire, the steel boat. Everyone has the chance to have such abilities."
Their eager faces almost made him laugh. He coughed.
"We’ve already confirmed the planet is expanding. We have seen that the sea creatures are becoming monstrous in size. But what you don’t know is why."
"I, myself, don’t know everything, but I can tell you what I do know."
Holding up one finger, he continued, "Firstly, there is Source Energy. It’s said to come from the planet’s core. Unlike ambient energy, which we can’t use. Source Energy is different. Most living things can make use of it
Animals are more susceptible to these changes, which is why they have changed so rapidly. Only humans are dense and unable to perceive the changes in their environment.
Currently, Source Energy is beginning to flow, but it is getting more abundant over time. Sooner or later, humans will begin to feel it."
A second finger went up, "Secondly. How to feel it? Simple. By meditating. Not everyone has the same aptitude for it. But as long as you feel it, there is no reason for you not to be able to use it. Unless, of course, your body is incompatible with it."
He paused, looking deeply at Matthew and Claire. Then he continued, "Thirdly, don’t ask questions. Remember, absolute trust. I won’t steer my own people wrong."
With that said, they swallowed the questions they had.
He then began to instruct them on how to feel Source Energy.
There were still things he hadn’t told them. He feared that if he did, they would lose their motivation before they even began. He relied on Dominic’s ’life value’, his ability to see a person’s value, to decide how far they would go.
The truth of the matter is that they can’t control how far they go. Most humans, after reaching Ascendant, might not be able to become a Sovereign.
Biology, Adaptability, Mentality, all affect a person’s outcome. Those who make it to Sovereign were already seen as the top predators.
Learning that there is Eclipse after Sovereign, he didn’t know how many could make it to that point.
Humans, of course, never limit themselves. In his previous life, they had been looking for ways to break through that bottleneck.
His eyes landed on the children. According to the system, the children can make it to Eclipse. They couldn’t become rulers without having the greatest ability.
As for himself, he smirked; he was the father of the most powerful being on the planet. As long as they don’t die, he can enjoy retirement.
When everyone had gotten into meditation, he gestured to Matthew and Claire. He hadn’t allowed them to meditate. He brought them to a room where he could speak to them alone.
Matthew was shown as being ’incomplete’. He wouldn’t take the risk.
After Claire had joined, he had also seen her status as ’incomplete.’
However, the system had given him a prompt for the two people. Against all odds, the two people have somehow created a symbiotic link.
Once the two touch, it creates a full circuit.
One has to know that there are no manuals for circulating Source Energy. The body automatically filters it. It is like an instinct. The same kind of instinct that prompts humans to be afraid of the darkness.
He didn’t ease them into it. He told them outright.
A part of him wanted to see the panic and despair. Blame it on his previous life’s experience.
"Both of you...cannot use Source Energy."
He watched their faces. He caught a flash of disappointment in Matthew’s eyes. Even Claire’s eyes dropped.
"There is a solution," he said calmly. He saw the hope ignite. Matthew’s slumped shoulders shot up.
"I’m not sure why, but your bodies create a complete circuit. If you touch each other, you can circulate Source Energy. As for how to touch each other, that’s entirely up to you."
Kain walked to the door and opened it. He would leave them to figure it out. The system only gave him so much information. All he could do was pass it on.
He was curious to know how they would make it work.
"Don’t have sex in my house. Find your own place." He said this as he walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
The two people in the room who had been thrown from hell to heaven were speechless.
Matthew gave a wry smile. He took Claire’s hand, and together they left Kain’s abode to explore the different ways to accumulate source energy.
