- Chapter 1: I’m Alive
Dinner wasn’t bad. The children all ate the food they were given without any complaint. Well, no complaint that Kain or Amelia could hear.
After dinner, Kain brought the children to the bedroom he had made up for them. He had the workers keep things neutral, since he was unaware of the children’s gender.
But everything they needed for daily necessities was inside. There were three small beds in the room, set so they could see each other in the room. There were children’s storybooks and toys for varying ages.
"Well," Kain said, as he looked around the room, "this is going to be your room for the next two weeks. After that...we’ll see."
He had them pick beds, point out the wardrobe, since they needed to change. He asked if they wanted anything else before he left. As usual, they only stared him down and said nothing.
"I’m taking that as a no." Walking towards the door, Kain’s hand fell on the doorknob before looking back. "How old are you three, by the way?"
He eyed them curiously. He had prepared numerous items for them, going directly into adulthood, but he felt, as their father, he should at least know their ages.
Dominic, previously dubbed the writer, held up five fingers.
Nodding, Kain told them to go to bed. Stepping out, he closed the door. After a moment of hesitation, he locked the door from the outside. The system gave him a complete on the feeding mission, but that didn’t mean he wanted to be attacked in the middle of the night.
Walking down the hall, he breathed a sigh of relief. The past two weeks have already been a godsend. He didn’t have to think about mutant beasts; there was no need to scavenge for food.
It was a good vacation.
He opened the door to his room, and the sight that greeted him made him swallow audibly.
Having been actively attempting not to have sex with Amelia, he didn’t know how much longer he could hold out. He wanted to make sure everything was aligned before trying anything. But between earlier today and now, she had been actively trying to seduce him.
She sat on the bed, hair still damp from her shower. He could smell the scent of his body wash on her. She was wearing his shirt. It had ridden up at some point, and a section of her hip and the curve of her bottom were visible.
Her lowered eye flitted up as she looked at home through her lashes, a smile curling at the corner of her mouth. She crossed her legs, his eyes catching the motion.
Seeing her like this, his traitorous body had one reaction. Blood rushed downward, fast, straight to his groin. He was painfully aware that his pants had become unbearably restrictive. He shifted his weight, ignoring the weight of the zipper against his aching shaft.
He shook his head imperceptively. This was not the time for this. He strained to tear his eyes away from her and headed to the bathroom.
The shower worked wonders on his mind. However, when he walked back in, he saw Amelia lying comfortably on the bed. He only just noticed she wasn’t wearing underwear.
He knew this was going to be a long night. But some things needed to be done.
He sat on the bed beside her and spoke. "We need to check the system."
He realized his voice was hoarse. He cleared his throat. He kept his eyes trained on the pillow behind her. He was afraid that if he did look, he couldn’t stop himself.
Amelia said nothing, only sitting up and covering herself with the duvet. Kain let out a breath he hadn’t known he was holding. He watched her purse her lips before nodding.
"Ok." He pulled up the system, ensuring they could both see it.
One thing he learned was that though Amelia is a secondary host, he still held the power. If he didn’t allow her to see, she couldn’t. Unless the system specifically has a task that includes both parents.
Thinking about the system, a silvery interface appeared before both of them. It did not contain much. Aside from their profiles, everything else was blurred. He had no way of reading any of it.

[Active Telepathic Link between three children confirmed]
Kain and Amelia stared at the information the system showed them. All sexual motives disappeared. Kain’s eyes widened. He wasn’t concerned with them being awakened.
He had always known about the awakened in the New World. It was the fact that they had already awakened that surprised him. And they have a telepathic link. The corner of his lip twitched, unsure whether to smile or frown.
He stared at the mention of the telepathic link. It was no wonder they were always silent. It’s not that they couldn’t talk. They were talking, but others couldn’t hear.
Unlike Kain, who was surprised that they were already awakened, Amelia had no concept of it. She couldn’t quite wrap her mind around the children being anything but human.
The incredulous look on her face made Kain bark out a laugh. The sound left his mouth before he could stop it. He immediately covered it up with a cough and looked away, pretending to stare at the screen in front of him.
He could feel Amelia’s stare, but he didn’t dare look over.
"Let’s look at the nurturing station," he said, taking the heat off himself.
