As for the members of Nightfall, they didn’t stand there; they joined the fray.

Being stronger than everyone there had its perks. The fight wasn’t even much of a fight. It was a one-sided massacre. No one died, yet. The people cut by Ashton might die if they don’t get medical treatment.

But everyone else is safe. At least Kain thinks so.

In all the chaos, he was still meditating. He had learned to direct Source Energy into his body without going into a complete meditative state.

The door opened behind him, and an alert Amelia stepped out.

When she saw the children and everyone fighting, she walked up to Kain and slapped him on his back.

"Didn’t I tell you not to let them fight?"

He pulled her down to sit next to him and whispered in her ear.

"They aren’t fighting. They’re practicing. You know better than I do that I wouldn’t let them go into an actual fight. Have you forgotten the panic attack?"

It wasn’t a proud moment for him. But he did have an attack before he let the children start hunting. Only after seeing they could handle it did the tension lessen.

She clicked her tongue and didn’t say anything more.

The fight lasted no more than a minute or two. The Awakened weren’t even winded.

The second the fight ended, Captain Gene, Matlock, and a few others appeared.

Kain narrowed his eyes.

They didn’t show up when they were arguing, but ended up coming when everything was done. Convenient, truly convenient.

Kain’s eyes flicked to these people, then at the children over in the corner. The little ones had their heads down, talking excitedly to each other. He quickly sent a message link telling them to go inside and talk about it.

They ran in without hesitation.

Now that Captain Gene was here, Kain stood, brushing off the nonexistent dust on his pants. He and Amelia stood watching their ever-changing expressions.

"Captain Gene, lovely to see you today. Would you like something to drink?" Kain’s nonchalant reply almost made the captain blow his top.

The pot-bellied man, as if seeing a saviour, ignored the pain on his body. He limped over to the captain, face beginning to swell.

"Captain, you have to arrest them. They broke the rules. They fought. You should kick them off."

Hearing this, Kain understood what was happening. Apparently, there was some rule, most likely set up for the refugees, that fighting isn’t allowed. So this fat man brought people here to fight to get them kicked off?

No, that doesn’t sound right. Kain rubbed a finger under his chin.

They aren’t part of the barge. The fatty should know this. Kicking them off wouldn’t work. Not to mention, the captain and his people came just after these people had already been beaten.

Kain didn’t believe that the captain was unaware that this was happening. From the sound of their hoofbeats as they marched this way to the voices, he should have heard. He probably didn’t care.

Captain Gene didn’t look at the fat man.

"Mr Nightfall, care to explain what happened here?"

Kain tilted his head to the man. "You heard him, we fought. Is there anything else to know?"

Gene cleared his throat. "I’m sure there’s more to it than that, but if Mr Nightfall refuses to speak, I won’t hold it against you. I hope that since Mr Nightfall’s people are still standing, you can let bygones be bygones and help.

If possible, provide some medical treatment and other forms of compensation. After all, your people were a bit... heavy-handed."

Kain laughed, not a small one. Did Captain Gene think he couldn’t see the calculation? He wanted him to compensate them? With what? His food? Dream on!

"No," Kain replied simply. "Why should I compensate people who tried to harm my children? They’re already lucky I didn’t kill anyone."

"Mr Nightfall, I think we can negotiate..."

"No. No negotiation."

He didn’t stay to listen to the rest. He went back to his room.

Outside, Marcus and the others looked at the group.

"Next time, come up with a better plan," Marcus said, patting the captain on his shoulder.

They left the captain and the others with no doubt that they had been seen through.

The rest of Nightfall went to their rooms, leaving the crowd outside. The blood of some refugees had already pooled under them.

The captain looked at the locked doors. He hadn’t planned it, but he was aware and didn’t stop it. He hadn’t expected this to happen.

These were the same people who helped him with rescue work. He thought they weren’t as heartless as they appeared. Now, it seems he might be wrong.

Half an hour, that’s how long it took them to clean up. During the time it took to move people to the infirmary, two people cut by Ashton had already died from blood loss.

Inside, Kain and his family didn’t just enter the container room; they went directly to the space.

They sat near the lake. Unfortunately, the sea area wasn’t unlocked, so they couldn’t touch it.

Behind them, various animals roamed. In the two months, Kain had taken the time to let some of the animals loose. They had grown healthy and strong in the Source Energy infused environment.

"So, tell me, what did you learn?" Kain asked the three children.

"I can’t control my strength. Sometimes I punch them too hard without meaning to." Avery sat there, lip quivering.

"Adjust your training. Instead of how hard you can punch, let the instructor teach you how to control it."

Avery nodded and snuggled into her mother’s arms. Kain chuckled, thinking she was still a baby.

"Some of the cuts were too shallow, and I didn’t move as fast as I wanted to. But I did put energy on the blade to make it sharper."

Kain hummed, "So control first and then speed. You need to go training with your sister. You too, Dom. You should train with your sister."

Dominic opened his mouth, then closed it, and then resignedly nodded.

"What about you, Dom? What did you notice?"

"I can control them, but not for long. It was only long enough for them to pause for a second."

"That can change as you get stronger," Kain comforted.

He looked at the little faces. He could see they were still thinking about the fight from earlier.

"Alright, don’t put too much pressure on yourselves. You’re still five. Go get some rest, then go to training."

After concluding them, he watched them walk away. A sudden thought came to mind as he watched them. It’s been five months. They had grown taller; it was such an obvious change compared to when he first saw them.

But there was one thing he didn’t know. He turned to Amelia. "Amy, do you know when they were born?"

The question struck Amelia because she hadn’t thought about it.

Seeing her bewilderment, he knew she didn’t know. He asked the system.

"System, when are the triplets’ birthdays?"

Kain was surprised. If he hadn’t thought about it, would they not have said anything? Regardless, he talked to Amelia. This year, as their first year with them, he would celebrate their birthday.
