The Alpha's Forsaken Feisty Mate

An awkward silence surrounded **Zenna** and Radulf after he accepted his fault in pushing her to take an extreme step to end her life. On the market streets, they walked like strangers.

’Why is he silent now?’ she thought, tilting her head to look at him frequently.

"I heard you like to read," Radulf said suddenly, breaking the ice between them.

"Yes, I do," **Zenna** replied, wondering why he said that.

"Then," Radulf held her hand, "we must visit this old library here," and walked faster through the route. She couldn’t believe his sudden excitement, and they only halted before the old library. The structure before them was not in good condition.

"Shouldn’t they renovate this building?" **Zenna** murmured.

"Maybe they aren’t generating enough revenue. Since many new libraries emerged in the past, people must have stopped visiting this place," Radulf stated.

"Oh." **Zenna** decided to help the owner of the library later. As they walked in, an old man welcomed them. He was quick to recognize Radulf and smiled seeing him after four years.

"You can check the books," Radulf told her, wanting some time with the old man. He let go of her wrist and watched her go further inside.

"You’ve become such a tall and sturdy man. I heard about your return but couldn’t come to see you," Norman said.

"The war brought a lot of changes in my physical appearance," Radulf admitted. "Is everything alright? This place looked much better the last time I visited it."

"The library was boycotted after what happened to your..." Norman stopped, his lips trembling as he recalled the past.

"Because we had good ties?!" Radulf asked.

"Yes, but it’s manageable. I’m so happy to see you," Norman said, smiling even in his tough times.

"I’m sorry for what you’ve undergone. But it will not happen anymore, Grandpa," Radulf assured him.

**Zenna**, who was standing behind a huge shelf, heard their conversation despite them talking in such low voices. ’Not only Radulf suffered because of my evil father, but many others too.’ She clutched the book in her hand tightly and lowered her head.

"Leave my troubles, Radulf. Tell yours. I heard that you brought a woman and had an affair with her. How could you do such a thing? Your wife is such a great and lovely woman. I witnessed how she used to wait for appointments with the Alphas of the other packs to establish trades with them," Norman remarked with a shocked gaze because Radulf wasn’t that kind of man.

"They are rumors, which aren’t true. Miss Nina and I are merely friends," Radulf clarified to him.

"Oh, then it’s fine. You better take good care of your mate," the old man told him sternly.

After some time, their conversation ended, and Radulf made his way to **Zenna**, who had collected two books so far.

"Read this one. *A Journey of a Wolf*," Radulf said, placing the book above the two other books.

"Sure. I should say that this library has one of the most unique collections of books," **Zenna** remarked.

"Yes." As she had her back toward the shelf, Radulf stood before her to reach out for another book. He took it out and lowered his head, only to find **Zenna** blushing, holding the books tightly.

"Why are you red?" Radulf queried, the pad of his fingers brushing her cheek. An amusing smirk formed on his lips, and he leaned down to her ear. "Are you excited?"

**Zenna** shook her head and pushed him away before running away.

"But I am. Stay in control," he muttered to himself, running his fingers through his tresses. He went to the counter, where Norman was present.

"You don’t need to pay," Norman told **Zenna**.

"Huh? But why?" She looked shocked.

"That’s not good, Grandpa. You must take the payment," Radulf told him. He could have given a huge amount to the old man, but he knew Norman wouldn’t like it. Instead, he decided to send the workers tomorrow to begin the renovation of the library.

The old man couldn’t refuse Radulf and intentionally told a lower amount. However, Radulf handed him a bill, saying, "We will come later." He dragged out **Zenna**, not taking the change from Norman.

"He is a nice man," **Zenna** said. "Where to keep these? I need to go for a boat ride too," she muttered.

Radulf took the three books from her. "It’s better now," he said. Just then, he heard an arrow being shot in the air. His reflexes acted, and he pulled **Zenna** behind his back. The arrow hit a wooden pillar behind them, shocking both of them.

"What-what was that?" **Zenna** tried to take a peek as Radulf remained standing before her.

"Go in. I’ll return soon," Radulf handed her the books before disappearing to catch the person who targeted **Zenna**.

Radulf nabbed the shooter soon and pushed him against the back wall of a building, his hand tightly holding the person by his neck.

"Who are you?" Radulf growled at him.

The shooter wriggled his legs in the air, trying to break free from Radulf’s clutches. The next second, Radulf let him go and kicked him in the abdomen before pressing his body down with his foot. "An omega wolf tried to harm someone he doesn’t even know. Was it the Queen who sent you?"

"Please let me go," the person pleaded.

"Answer the question first," Radulf said.

"It was the princess!" he replied finally.

Radulf got on his knees after pulling back his foot from the chest. Pulling out the dagger from the back of his boot, he stabbed it right in the middle of the man’s chest. Radulf twisted the blade, taking his life.

Pulling out the dagger, Radulf put it back into the sheath and walked back to fetch **Zenna**.

As he entered the old library, both **Zenna** and Norman left their seats. They saw blood on Radulf’s face, which panicked them. **Zenna** rushed to him, examining him to see if he was injured.

"I’m fine," Radulf replied, wiping the blood from his face with the back of his sleeve.

"Who was it? And did you kill him?" **Zenna** asked with a worried gaze.

"I couldn’t keep him alive," Radulf replied.

**Zenna** took out her handkerchief and wiped the blood from his face. "You need to stop taking lives like that. You could have sent him for the investigation," she whispered.

"Then, I would have never found out who sent him to harm my mate," Radulf said, his pupils turning into a darker shade of green.

**Zenna**’s eyes glued to him as her hand stopped. He called her *my mate*. She resumed wiping his face clean, and once it was done, she lowered her hand.

"We will leave now," Radulf said and gave a glance to Norman that they were leaving.

Once outside, Radulf took **Zenna** to the place where boats were present.

’How can he act so normal as if nothing happened?’ **Zenna** thought.

Radulf bought a ticket for them. "We need to wait," he said while holding the books tightly.

"I do not feel well," **Zenna** said.

"Why?"

"Because I’m not strong like you. You just had–" She couldn’t finish her words when Radulf pressed a kiss above her lips.
