The Alpha's Forsaken Feisty Mate

Radulf stopped right behind Zenna, who stopped at the entrance of the Eastern Wing.

"Where are you heading?" Radulf’s voice stopped Zenna midway, and she turned to look at him. "This is a place where no one will be allowed to enter."

"I know. I never visited your parents’ chamber because it was your responsibility to take me there. However, I have something important to show you. We frequently clean this place, so I come here with the servants," Zenna said.

"What do you have to show me?" Radulf questioned.

"It’s in the room ahead," Zenna replied and went ahead of him, not answering him entirely. Radulf followed her to the room, where she had stopped. It was a room where his father would occasionally sit in the evening.

"Zenna, what are you trying to do?" Radulf frowned, not feeling well.

"I came here earlier to check if the room was cleaned well when I found this," Zenna said, pulling out the drawer on a small table, which had weathered out. She took out a small worn-out paper scroll and showed it to Radulf. "I have been to this room so many times, but I never checked this table. As far as I know, at that time, every single piece of document was lifted from here, but I think they missed it. I think you should read it. I didn’t open it, thinking it must be important."

Radulf quickly took it from Zenna and opened the thread from around the paper, which had turned brown. He opened it and read the content inside it.

"Radulf, if you make it out alive, then go to the Northern Town of Herah. You’ll find your answers there." His lips quivered as he uttered those words.

"What’s this?" Radulf’s hands shook as he murmured to himself. He gazed at Zenna and hugged her tightly, thus startling her. "Thank you for finding this," he whispered, his eyes closed in comfort as if he had found the answer to the question he kept asking himself for four years.

He pulled away and smiled. "I have been dying to know this," Radulf said. "Father never committed any treason. It wasn’t him. The witch framed him and gave a wrong testimony against him. I can’t believe he left this for me," he shared with her. "Thank you, Zenna."

For the first time, she felt Radulf talk in such a soft tone with her. A smile formed on Zenna’s lips. "Then, you must do what the message says," she asserted.

Radulf hummed and wondered, ’Should I take her with me?’

"Have you heard about the Northern Town of Herah?" he inquired.

Zenna shook her head. "It’s a town where witches and werewolves live together. Also, the town is said to have a history of deadly wars between witches and werewolves in the past. I need to go there after some time." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"What? But you have just returned, Radulf," Zenna said, not wanting him to leave for work again.

"Will you accompany me to Herah?" Radulf asked. "I am sure you have not seen anything except for a few places in the capital. Maybe we will find a lot of things on our journey to Herah, including your wolf," he pronounced with a grin.

"I would love to join you on this journey," Zenna replied promptly, not wanting to lose such an opportunity to be with him. "But what does the message say? If you are comfortable, then only share with me."

Radulf forwarded the worn-out paper to Zenna, and she read it. Her eyes widened for a brief second.

"Father wrote this for me," he said.

However, what he saw in Zenna’s eyes were tears. "Are you crying now? But why?" he asked.

"It must be hard... For you," Zenna said, her voice choked as she took a deep breath, not wanting those tears to fall. She looked away and apologized to him. "I wish I could do something for you. I wish your parents were alive," she murmured, bringing her hand to her eyes.

"You do something for yourself first, Zenna. What’s taken from me can’t be brought back. But I’ll make sure to take everything from Phillipe. So, you better brace yourself because I may use you against him. That’s why I could never let you go even when I hated the royals. I hate them from the bottom of my heart," Radulf pronounced, his eyes filled with menace.

"I am a half-royal. My mother was a commoner, a mere servant," Zenna said, bringing her hand to her chest. "You can use me as much as you want. But don’t abandon me if you use me. I don’t want anything more," she urged.

"I don’t make empty promises. I have no idea what the future has laid for us. However, I can tell you that I will never let you go," Radulf affirmed. "And you chose to be with me. I gave you a chance to leave me, but you didn’t."

Radulf scanned his eyes in the room, which suddenly took him to the past. "I neglected all of this. Thank you for keeping it clean. I mean it."

"I did what I should have done for a home." Zenna slowly walked to him. She hesitated for a moment before holding his hand. She lifted her head while he lowered his head to meet her gaze.

Radulf didn’t yank it away and looked ahead toward the oak tree desk.

"Father used to sit over there and would make a list every day of the work he had finished. He was a meticulous man." He gazed at the sofa chair behind the desk. He didn’t know why he was confiding such details with Zenna.

"I want my father’s name to get clean. I know people still see him as a traitor while I’m a traitor’s son in their eyes. I want to remove that stain from his name. I wonder if that would give him and Mother true peace," Radulf said, furrowing his brows together.
