The Alpha's Forsaken Feisty Mate

"Are you here in search of the truth?" Selina asked, her sharp gaze fixed on Radulf.

"Yes," Radulf replied without hesitation.

"Follow me," Selina said, turning to lead the way.

Radulf hesitated. "Should we trust you? And if so, why?" he questioned with a cautious tone.

Selina stopped and looked over her shoulder. "If you didn’t trust me, you wouldn’t have revealed your true reason for being in Herah," she stated. A knowing glint flickered in her eyes before she added, "Your father was here once. Follow me, I will answer you."

Zenna and Radulf nodded and followed Selina deeper into the forest until they arrived at a hidden establishment. The settlement was well-concealed, yet alive with the presence of witches who observed them with wary curiosity. Radulf instinctively held Zenna close, his grip protective.

"High Priestess, why did you bring werewolves here?" one of the witches asked, suspicion lacing her voice.

*She is a High Priestess?!* Radulf thought, startled.

"They are our guests," Selina replied calmly, her tone leaving no room for argument. "They saved this baby. Send Yena to my room later, Emayra," she instructed one of her disciples. Then, her gaze softened as she handed the infant over. "Feed the baby with milk."

Emayra took the child from Selina’s arms and left, while Zenna and Radulf followed the High Priestess into a grand villa.

Once inside, they were offered water. Zenna gratefully took a glass and drank, quenching her thirst. Radulf, however, remained cautious, his instincts refusing to let him lower his guard. Selina noticed and smiled before taking a sip of her own water, as if to ease his suspicions.

"Madam, you found the baby’s mother so quickly? Is Yena the mother?" Zenna asked curiously.

"She was the only one I knew of who was pregnant recently, and her due date was close," Selina answered.

"Then why would she abandon the child in a forest where only witches would leave their unwanted?" Zenna murmured, setting her empty glass down.

"She doesn’t live among us," Selina replied. "Perhaps that’s why."

Then, her gaze shifted toward Zenna, a knowing look in her eyes. "I can see that you have yet to awaken your beautiful wolf."

Zenna froze, her breath hitching. *How does she know that?* Even Radulf was momentarily taken aback, though he quickly reminded himself of the High Priestess’s extraordinary abilities. The witches, often regarded as the messengers of the Moon Goddess, possessed knowledge beyond ordinary comprehension.

For years, there had been no reports of a High Priestess in the kingdom. Radulf had even begun to believe they were mere myths.

"I... I thought I was wolfless," Zenna murmured.

"You are not," Selina corrected gently. "You are afraid to accept your own wolf, and in return, your wolf is afraid to accept you."

Zenna frowned, confused. She had done everything to awaken her wolf—prayed on sacred moonlit nights, followed every old ritual—yet nothing had worked.

"We can discuss that later," Selina said, shifting her attention to Radulf. "Your mate is more eager to uncover the truth."

"But I also want to know why Zenna hasn’t been able to awaken her wolf," Radulf countered firmly. Finding the truth was his priority, but Zenna’s struggle weighed just as heavily on his heart.

Selina studied him for a moment before her lips curled into a soft smile. "You made it out alive, Radulf, and I’m truly relieved that you did not succumb to the same injustice your parents faced."

Radulf’s jaw clenched. "If you knew about it, why didn’t the witches stand by my father? Why didn’t you tell the Alpha King the truth?"

A flicker of regret crossed Selina’s face. "Because your father made one small mistake," she revealed. "He trusted the wrong witch—one who was secretly aligned with the Alpha King. Even I was unaware of her deception until it was too late."

Radulf’s fists clenched. "What exactly was my father trying to do?"

"Your father wanted to protect his own family. Your family are the only ones with dominant alpha blood. The Alpha King wanted your father to help a witch in performing an old magic, which is forbidden to even think of. That’s where your father fell into a trap and trusted a witch who was on the Alpha King’s side. He refused to help her in any such ritual, thinking she would never tell the Alpha King about it while trying to fool him. The last thing Daisy told me was that we would be proud of her. The day your parents’ punishment was announced was the same day Daisy was charged with treason against the Alpha King."

As Selina revealed the entire truth to them, Zenna gazed at Radulf.

"I couldn’t speak against the Alpha King because there was no evidence. These were the verbal communications that happened between me and Nigel. Without any evidence, the entire kingdom pointed fingers at the witches," Selina explained further.

"My father came to ask for your help, didn’t he?" Radulf questioned.

"Yes. He wanted me to intervene in the Alpha King’s scheme. I had decided to meet the Alpha King a week later, but before that, everything happened," Selina asserted.

Radulf turned quiet and lowered his eyes, not blinking even for a second.

"So, there’s no way we can confront the Alpha King?" Zenna questioned.

"Yes, there’s no way you can do that. Witches are powerful, but we cannot do something against the laws. However, the Alpha King was ready to do it. Maybe you two can fight against him, especially you, Zenna. I can see your stars aren’t ordinary ones. You are born to do something extraordinary. Despite being abandoned for years, you have always been kind to everyone around you," Selina stated with a bright smile on her lips.

Zenna was quite perplexed to hear such praising words toward her. No one had ever said that she was extraordinary. She was called worthless for her existence.

Radulf gazed at his wife. "I also ridiculed her," he murmured.

Selina and Zenna glanced at him.

"I’ve no idea what I can do without any evidence. But I also feel Zenna can help me end the Alpha King," Radulf affirmed.
