He quickly made a plan and tossed the steel staff into the dungeon. Then he grabbed the small chunk of Mithril alloy Draven had just given him and tossed that into the dungeon storage too.
’System.’ Adrian commanded, ’Add this’
He didn’t have to tell it to add it since the process was automatic but he still did it anyways.
[New item found. Adding to directory.]
Adrian grinned.
’Make me a staff similar to the steel one.’ Adrian ordered. ’But make it a complete alloy of Mithril and steel.’
The red error text popped up instantly.
[Negative.]
[Alloy of Mithril and steel is not possible. Mithril does not bind well with carbon. Due to this chemical rejection, steel cannot safely fuse with Mithril ore.]
’Okay.’ Adrian thought as he changed his mind quickly. ’Then just do it with pure iron.’
[What specific ratios would you like to apply?]
Adrian paused. He honestly had no clue about how expensive this whole process would get.
’Well. Just give me the cheapest ratio for now.’ Adrian commanded. ’Wait. How much mana does it actually cost to synthesize raw Mithril?’
Because he knew Mithril was famous for conducting mana, he assumed the creation cost would be astronomical.
[The synthesis cost of Mithril is 1 mana point per 1 kilogram of mass. This is because Mithril possesses the innate physical ability to conduct mana. It does not naturally store or generate mana inside its own atomic structure. It is a rare metal that conducts mana, but there is no need for it to be created with mana inside it.]
Adrian’s eyes went wide.
’Oh.’ Adrian thought happily. ’Okay, so this is a fantastic result then.’
He looked back at the screen.
’Okay, then make me an alloy using Mithril that has a perfect, balanced ratio.’ Adrian instructed. ’I need a good balance between raw physical hardness, malleability, and high mana conductivity. Just give me the best possible option.’
[Affirmative.]
Three seconds passed before a fresh message hit the screen.
[Optimal Alloy Synthesized.]
[Composition: 60% Mithril, 40% Iron.]
[Would you like me to construct a staff using this material?]
’Yeah.’ Adrian thought. ’Wait, no. Build it using the exact design I have in my head.’
He just closed his eyes and pictured the classic Monkey King staff he grew up watching in movies and video games back on Earth. He imagined a staff that was thicker than normal on both ends and with a pole of regular thickness in the center.
The dungeon took the image from his brain.
[Staff Constructed.]
[Composition: 60% Mithril, 40% Iron.]
[Weight: 33.4 Kilograms.]
[Length: 2.2 Meters.]
’Okay, that works.’
Adrian pulled the brand new weapon straight out of his storage.
It appeared right in his hand and Adrian could tell that it definitely carried some weight to it. But it was ridiculously lighter than that pure steel pipe from earlier. Mithril was basically ten percent the weight of normal iron. So blending the two metals meant this new staff weighed less than half of what a standard iron rod would.
He grabbed the staff around the middle and gave it a quick, experimental spin.
He nearly dropped it.
He stopped swinging and just stared at the weapon awkwardly.
’I don’t know how to actually use a staff.’ Adrian realized, feeling incredibly stupid.
He was totally bummed out. He had just spent time crafting this badass, legendary looking weapon, but he had absolutely zero martial arts training to back it up.
’When a massive, dangerous fight happens, it is definitely best not to use a weapon I am not used to.’ Adrian decided quickly. ’I will just stick with my chakrams for now.’
He shoved the beautiful staff right back into his dungeon storage. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
The exact second he put the weapon away and pulled his trusty steel chakrams out instead, Draven and his heavily armored family marched out of the nearby barracks.
Adrian ran over to the Marquis.
"What am I supposed to do right now?" Adrian asked quickly.
"Just get up on top of the wall!" Draven yelled over the noise of the courtyard. "If you can use a bow, start firing arrows! Actually, forget the bow. Just fire the damn arrows!"
Draven shot him a completely wild, bloodthirsty grin.
"You can shoot multiple arrows at the exact same time, right?" Draven asked.
"Yeah." Adrian nodded.
He spun around and rushed up the stone steps. He reached the top of the defensive wall and peeked over the ledge. But he could not actually spot any monsters yet. He turned around and on the wall that was around three meters wide, there were massive wooden crates lined up across the entire length of the walkway.
And every single one of them was packed to the brim with steel tipped arrows.
Adrian looked around the wall and spotted Caelum standing nearby.
"Caelum, come here." he said and then, he looked down at his daughter, "Aria, you too."
She was already standing right there with him, but he looked down at her anyway.
"Come and help." Adrian said. "Do you want to participate in the war?"
"Yes." Aria nodded quickly.
"Good." Adrian said.
He looked at both Caelum and Aria.
"You guys know how to use the Gust spell, right?" Adrian asked.
The two of them nodded simultaneously.
"Good. Now what you need to do is, instead of using a regular Gust, I want you to focus and compress the mana right in front of your fingers." Adrian instructed. "And I want you to explode it forward."
Aria raised her hand and did it easily on the first try. The compressed ball of air exploded outwards and Adrian nodded when it saw it work.
But Caelum had serious issues with it. He struggled to gather the wind and compress it to the required level.
"Just keep trying." Adrian encouraged him.
Caelum nodded and he kept trying and trying and trying while Adrian just stood there waiting patiently.
After around four minutes of intense focus, Caelum finally got it. But his ability to compress the air was incredibly weak. The spell just lacked the explosive punch required to fire arrows properly.
