BOOM
The ground trembled beneath my feet, a faint quake rolling through the area as if the forest itself was trying to shake us off. My gaze locked on the group of lightning wolves ahead, their fur crackling with static energy, their glowing yellow eyes fixed on us with deadly intent.
One figure stood out amidst the chaos.
A man moving with lightning itself. His sword shimmered with a pale blue aura as he dashed forward. His strikes were precise, each swing of his blade leaving an arc of destruction in its wake.
I watched him closely. His movements were calculated, fluid, almost like a dance. He used the trees around him to his advantage, leaping from branches to gain momentum, then plunging down with devastating force. His blade cut through the young wolf pups with frightening ease. Each slash left a trail of faint blue light in the air before it faded into nothingness.
The wolves were fast, but he was faster, darting between them, leaving a trail of sparks and blood. His sword style was refined yet brutal, a perfect blend of elegance and raw power.
Freya, standing a little ahead of me, was clearly impressed. I saw the awe in her eyes as she sliced through two wolves with her wind blades, her attacks sharp and precise. Her lips parted slightly, and I heard her mutter under her breath, "He can already use aura!"
Her voice carried a mix of disbelief and admiration. The pale blue glow of his weapon seemed to mesmerize her.
Freya wasn't someone easily impressed. Her pride and ego often overshadowed everything else, but at that moment, sheuldn't hide her wonder.
Unlike her or the others, this man—Ashton—wasn't from a family of blessings or special abilities. That fact made his mastery of aura even more remarkable.
My gaze shifted to Talia, who moved silently in the shadows. She was methodical, almost surgical in her approach. Each strike of her blade was deliberate, targeting weak points with precision. A shy girl by nature, she seemed tome alive in the heat of battle. She attacked the wolves one by one, her quiet efficiency in starkntrast to the chaos around her.
That's when Freya's sharp voice cut through the noise.
Her eyes widened, and she called out, "The wolf…" but her words trailed off as her gaze snapped to me.
I leaned casually against a tree, rubbing my cheek absentmindedly. Her expression twisted with frustration and disbelief.
"Huh? What happened?" I asked, my tone as emotionless as ever.
Freya's face flushed, but she didn't have time to ld me. Instead, she screamed, her voice urgent.
"That wolf is summoning lightning clouds! We'll be in deep danger if those fall on us!"
I followed her gaze and spotted the massive wolf standing atop a cliff, its glowing horn crackling with energy. Thunder rumbled overhead, and the faint flicker of lightning began to dance in the clouds above.
"Shit!" Ashton cursed, his voice laced with panic. He moved as if to rush toward the wolf, but before heuld take a step, I whispered, "I'm on it."
The words were barely audible, but they stopped him in his tracks.
SWOOSH!
I vanished from my spot in an instant, leaving only a faint rustle of leaves behind.
I wasn'tncerned about their reactions or what they thought. My mind was already calculating, planning. As I closed the distance between me and the giant wolf, my grip tightened on my blade. The chaos around me faded, the only sound the steady beat of my own heart.
This wasn't about pride or ego. It wasn't about proving anything to anyone.
It was about finishing the job.
SWISH!
With that my figure melted into the shadows.
The shadows wemed me like an old friend as I activated Shadow Step, my form blending seamlessly into the elongated darkness cast by the lightning wolf's towering figure. Emerging silently from the wolf's side, I leaped into the air, my blade raised high.
The horn,it was the key. Stabbing the beast wouldn't stop the spell it had already begun, but breaking the horn might sever its power.
CLANG!
My blade struck the glowing horn with a resounding metallic ring.
BANG!
The force of the impact reverberated through my arms, numbing them momentarily. A burst of lightning erupted from the point ofntact, surging through my body like a fiery jolt. The pain was sharp and electrifying, but I gritted my teeth, my mind steady.
[Pain Tolerance] kicked in, dulling the agony to a tolerable thrum, while Hunter's Gaze locked onto the wolf's weak points.
"KURRGRGGGG!"
The lightning wolf let out an ear-splitting squeal, writhing in agony as a small piece of its horn shattered. Sparks of residual lightning surged around it, rching the ground and forcing nearby wolves to retreat momentarily.
BOOM!
The wolf retaliated with a pulse of lightning, throwing me backward. I tumbled through the air, my boots skidding across the ground as I regained my balance. Around me, the wolves howled, theirnfidence shaken as they stepped back in pain.
Out of therner of my eye, I spotted Ashton charging forward. His blade gleamed as he closed the distance, aiming for the beast's flank.
His movements werentrolled, but the wolf was quick, dodging nimbly. Ashton didn't falter, seamlessly shifting his strike mid-swing from horizontal to vertical. His sword grazed the wolf's hide in a precise arc, leaving a shallow wound that slowed the creature for just a moment.
That moment was all I needed.
I emerged from the side, my blade slashing across its exposed flank. The wolf staggered under ourmbined assault, its agility faltering as we pressed our advantage.
Despite its size and power, it was beginning to wear down. Blood dripped from its wounds, staining the ground as it struggled against our relentless attacks.
But then, just as we prepared to finish the fight, a voice rang out behind us.
"Step aside."
Ashton froze mid-strike, his eyes wide withnfusion.
"What—?" he began, but I cut him off with a sharpmmand.
"Jump. Otherwise, she might kill you too."
Ashton leaped to the side, his movements hurried and frantic.
I followed, landing a safe distance away just as a massive cyclone of swirling winds began to form around Freya's blade. The sheer force of it whipped through the air, scattering leaves and debris like a violent storm.
She charged forward, her sword a spinning vortex of destruction, the winds roaring in her wake.
And then… everything was destroyed in the path.
