The room grew heavier with every passing second.
Bishop Stellon’s whisper lingered in the air like a haunting echo, his words sinking deep into their hearts.
"This… this isn’t just a conspiracy," he murmured with a rough soft voice which was barely audible. "If this letter is true, we are standing on the brink of something catastrophic."
The temperature seemed to drop for a moment.
Shadows cast by the flickering Truth Seeker Candle twisted unnaturally across the walls, their shapes unsettling. Andrew’s hand instinctively gripped the hilt of his sword, and Richard clenched his fists, his jaw tightening as the weight of the situation bore down on them.
Breaking the heavy silence, Richard’s voice came firm but laced with urgency. "Begin the divination, Bishop Stellon. We must know if this threat is real." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Stellon’s eyes narrowed as he considered the request. "What do you want to know? The one who sent this?"
Richard shook his head, his tone grave. "We’ll deal with that later. First, find out if this is true. Is it going to happen for real?"
Stellon hesitated, his brows furrowing deeply.
"It doesn’t matter if it’s true or false. We are diving into the territory of higher levels which have chances of interference."
"So can’t we predict?"Richard and Andrew asked at the same time, feeling their hearts freeze.
Bishop Stellon shook his head and spoke, "The backlash… it could be severe. The Truth Seeker Candle is no simple tool, and the cost of this divination may hit hard in unexpected ways
Richard met his gaze with unwavering determination. "We have no other choice. The risk is too great if we ignore this. We must take this chance."
"Don’t worry Bishop, me and Andrew will share the burden of the backlash."
"What? When did I agree to this?"Andrew jumped up in shock and looked at his Captain who just shrugged it off.
Stellon took a deep breath and nodded reluctantly. He stepped into the center of the room, his presence commanding as he set the blood-red candle on the floor. He poured a shimmering liquid, rich with divinity, around the candle in a precise circle, his hands trembling slightly. The tension in the room was suffocating.
He turned to Richard and Andrew, gesturing them closer. "Take my hands. We must link this to work.No matter what happens, don’t leave my hand or else…"
His warning gave the two a shiver that made them want to step back but they were forced to comply.
Richard stepped forward, gripping Stellon’s right hand, while Andrew took his left. Stellon then handed a vial of silvery liquid to Richard, his voice steady despite the faint tremor in his fingers.
"If I collapse, pour this into my mouth," he instructed.
Richard stared at the vial, its contents swirling like molten mercury, and nodded grimly. "Understood."
The air grew thick as Stellon began the ritual. The candle’s flame flickered violently, casting eerie shapes on the walls. The bishop’s voice, low and steady, cut through the oppressive silence as he asked.
"Will the Malcolm family summon the Evil God on June 5th, 1980, at noon?"
SWOOSH!
The flame roared to life, twisting and writhing as if alive. It spiraled upward, forming a circular window that hovered in the air, glowing ominously. All three men stared into it, their breath caught in their throats.
The scene that unfolded was chilling and haunting.
From circles of candles, an image flickered showcasing live images of the feed.
They saw an ancient, cavernous basement, damp and dark, where hooded figures knelt in a circle. At the center, a man with pale whiskers orchestrated their movements like a conductor with an orchestra. His hands moved rhythmically, his gestures sharp and deliberate.
A ripple of energy burst forth from his outstretched hand, washing over the hooded figures. One by one, they slammed their foreheads to the ground, murmurs turning into guttural chants.
The chants echoed eerily like hymns of nails scratching against the metal creating a bizarre sound capable enough to deafen the ears.
The air filled with a maddening hum, the sound clawed at their minds.
Then,came an explosion.
Not in the picture but in real life.
The vision erupted into chaos. Ashes scattered in the air, swirling wildly as the scene dissolved into darkness.
CRACK!
The window shattered. Stellon collapsed to the ground, blood spurting from his mouth. His body convulsed, his breaths shallow and erratic.
"Bishop Stellon!" Richard dropped to his knees, panic flashing in his eyes as he uncorked the vial and carefully poured the silvery liquid into Stellon’s trembling lips.
Andrew’s expression became pale and he was shaken for a moment but despite that he remained calmed and steadied the bishop’s head.
"Kaahh…" Stellon gasped as the potion worked its way through his system providing the much-needed boost.
His twitching subsided, and color slowly returned to his face.
For a moment, the room was deathly silent, broken only by the labored breaths of the three men. Stellon opened his eyes weakly, his voice a faint rasp. "Conditions… there are conditions…"
Richard’s heart sank at the word, his fingers tightening into fists. He turned toward the flame, still flickering ominously on the floor.
Andrew’s voice was barely above a whisper, his unease evident. "Here it comes."
Richard took a deep breath, steeling himself as the candle began to shift again. Each flicker of its flame seemed to pulse with an ominous rhythm, echoing the pounding of his heart.
The flames danced erratically, their light twisting and forming letters in the air that hovered in the air beginning the event of reciprocal exchange.
Richard and Andrew leaned forward, squinting to make out the glowing text.
[Question or Action.]
Without hesitation, Andrew blurted out, "Questions!" His voice rang sharp, startling Richard, who immediately grabbed him by the collar.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" Richard barked, his face inches from Andrew’s. "Why did you decide that without consulting me first?"
Andrew’s eyes narrowed, his voice rising as he pushed Richard’s hands away. "Captain, think for a moment! Could you really do whatever it asks? It’s better to deal with a question than to risk some unspeakable act. Did you forget what happened the last time this was used?"
Richard froze, his grip loosening as Andrew’s words hit him like a blow to the chest.
The memory clawed its way back, vivid and haunting. The last time the Truth Seeker Candle was used for divination, the chosen action had been simple in theory but cruel in its demand.
A bishop had been tasked with losing his virginity—a laughable directive for some, but not for him. The man had taken the priesthood path partly because he suffered from an embarrassing physical issue. Failure to complete the task would have resulted in a permanent and horrific punishment which the irreversible loss of his manhood.
The thought sent an icy chill through Richard’s spine, his face draining of color. His lips trembled as the weight of what could have happened settled in. His heart pounded, his breath coming in shallow gasps.
His reflection caught his eye in the nearby mirror. His usually stoic face now bore a pale, haunted expression. His eyes were wide with dread, his brows furrowed, and beads of sweat glistened on his forehead.
"Goddess… please guide us," he whispered, his voice barely audible.

The flame crackled, and the words shifted. Richard and Andrew snapped their heads toward it, their fear giving way to confusion as the text appeared.
[Are you gay?]
Andrew stared at it for a moment before bursting into laughter. "Ha! Hahaha! What kind of question is that?" he managed to say between gasps, slapping his knee.
"So easy! Of all the things it could have asked, this is nothing!" Andrew’s laughter echoed in the tense room as he pointed at the flame.
"Of course not!"
Then he turned to Richard with a wide grin on his face and asked"None of us here is gay, right, Captain?"
Richard let out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding, nodding slowly. "Of course not. I have a wife." He paused, glancing briefly at Stellon, then added, "I’m straight."
Bishop Stellon, who was still recovering, raised his brow but said nothing for a moment
After a fleeting moment, he asked,"I am also not gay."
"Thank the Goddess," Richard said, placing a trembling hand over his chest as his heartbeat finally began to slow.
But then, the flame flickered violently again. The letters dissolved and reformed into new text, the words burning brighter and clearer than before.
[Then Tell me?
"What?"The three asked in shock.
[Who is gay?]
The laughter in the room died instantly. Richard’s pupils shrank, his breath hitching as he read the words. Andrew’s grin vanished, replaced by a look of dawning horror.
Silence fell, heavy and suffocating. The question hung in the air, demanding an answer, as the flames flickered with ominous intensity.
The words started to enlarge dawning in everyone’s eyes which made Richard look at Andrew who has an expression screaming..
