"Pah! You think I’m as shameless as you? Let’s not forget who it was that tried to scheme against Su Qing. Just thinking about it makes me feel ashamed on your behalf!" Aunt Cuihua planted her hands on her hips and ran a finger down her own cheek in a mocking gesture as she unleashed a tirade on Er La Niang. "When it comes to being shameless, if you’re second in this village, no one would dare claim to be first!"

"Liu Cuixia, are you trying to start a fight?" Furious from the humiliation, Er La Niang shrieked at Aunt Cuihua.

"Bring it on! I’m not afraid of you!" Aunt Cuihua shot back, her eyes wide.

Su Qing quickly moved to shield Aunt Cuihua, facing Er La Niang directly. "Aunt Zhang," she said, her voice cold, "If you have a problem with me, say it to my face. Stop with the passive-aggressive jabs all day. Do you think I’m still the same old pushover you can walk all over? I’m warning you, don’t provoke me. When I get pushed too far, I’d dare pull a knife on my own grandmother. What makes you think I’d hesitate with you?"

With that, Su Qing gave a cold laugh. "And don’t try to use filial piety to guilt-trip me. I used to value duty and family, but what did that get me? Anyone with eyes can see the answer to that. I’ll show respect to my elders, but only if they’re worthy of it. If they aren’t, I’m not going to sacrifice my own well-being for the sake of some so-called reputation."

At her words, not only was Er La Niang stunned into silence, but the onlooking villagers also stared with wide eyes.

Naturally, Zhao Youcai and Wang Xuehong saw the commotion. They were already annoyed with Er La Niang for stirring up trouble. It wasn’t until they saw Su Qing had argued her into a speechless stupor that they finally intervened. "Alright, that’s enough! What’s all this noise about?" Zhao Youcai yelled. "Er La Niang, if you keep this up, you can forget about getting your share of the grain!"

Er La Niang’s heart skipped a beat. She wanted to protest, to ask why she was the only one being singled out, but the anger in Zhao Youcai’s eyes made her wither. She shot Su Qing one last resentful glare but didn’t dare utter another word. The suppressed rage felt like a painful knot in her chest.

Looking completely triumphant, Aunt Cuihua beamed at Su Qing. "Su Qing, I’ll get my husband and Gou Dan to help you carry all this grain back home in a minute."

"Alright, thank you! I really appreciate the help," Su Qing said with a grateful smile, readily accepting the offer.

"Ah, don’t be so polite! We’re practically family." With a wave of her hand, Aunt Cuihua called her husband and son over, and they helped Su Qing push the cart of grain back to her house.

The Old Su Family members watched Su Qing walk away, their fists clenched in anger. Old Su, in particular, was overcome with a stifling sense of grievance. ’That damned girl has absolutely no regard for her own family!’
