The police officers had noticed the girl next to Su Qing the moment they arrived. They gasped inwardly when they saw her bruised and swollen face, knowing she must have suffered terribly at the hands of these people.

Captain Zhang quickly said to the girl, "You’re safe now. Don’t worry, we won’t let any of the people who trafficked and harmed you get away."

"Thank you." The girl hurriedly said to Captain Zhang, "Oh, right! Besides me, there are twelve other people locked in the cellar behind the house. Please, hurry and get them out."

"Xiao Zhao, Xiao He, Xiao Zhou." Hearing this, Captain Zhang quickly assigned three team members to follow the girl to the back of the house and rescue the people locked in the cellar.

"Yes, sir."

The three officers who were called went to the back of the house with the girl. Su Qing then said to Captain Zhang, "By the way, Captain Zhang, I questioned one of them just now. He said two more of their accomplices are out on business and haven’t come back yet."

"Okay, I understand." Captain Zhang nodded and said to Su Qing, "Thank you both for your hard work today. We’ll handle the arrests from here. You two should hurry home now."

"Okay." Su Qing nodded. She glanced at the men still unconscious on the ground and asked, "Captain Zhang, I was wondering, if the charges are confirmed, what kind of sentences will they get?"

"Life imprisonment, at the very least," Captain Zhang said. "The crackdown on human traffickers is very severe right now. The sentences are much heavier than before."

Hearing this, Su Qing nodded. "That’s good to hear."

Su Qing then gestured toward Li Huan. "I’m not afraid for myself, but I was worried they might pose a threat to my friend."

"Understood." Captain Zhang instantly got her meaning. "Don’t worry. We definitely won’t let any of them get away."

"Great, thank you, Captain Zhang. We’ll be going then."

Leaving the rest to be handled by the police, Su Qing and Li Huan said goodbye to Captain Zhang and prepared to head home.

However, the buses had stopped running by this time. To get back to Xilin Alley, they would have to walk. After all, there were no taxis to hail in this era.

"Li Huan, I’m afraid you’ll have to walk back with me," Su Qing said, a little apologetically.

"What’s the big deal? We can just think of it as exercise," Li Huan laughed. "Besides, with you by my side, I feel completely safe."

Su Qing smiled and was about to speak when a car suddenly pulled up beside them. "Li Huan? Su Qing? You two..."

Hearing their names, Li Huan and Su Qing turned toward the car. Seeing the head poking out of the window, they asked in unison, "What are you doing here?"

Then, they both turned to look at each other at the same time. "You know him?"

The person who had called out to them was none other than Yan Dongjun. He looked at Li Huan and Su Qing in surprise. "I didn’t realize you two were friends."

Li Huan nodded at Yan Dongjun, then explained to Su Qing, "Su Qing, we’re sort of relatives. His mother is my aunt’s cousin."

Su Qing was genuinely surprised that Yan Dongjun and Li Huan were distant relatives. She smiled and said, "What a coincidence. I was only able to buy the courtyard house I’m living in now thanks to Brother Yan’s help."

Li Huan laughed. "It really is a small world."

Su Qing nodded and said to Yan Dongjun, "What are you still doing out so late at night?"

"I should be asking you two the same thing! Why are two young women like you still not home at this hour?" Yan Dongjun was a bit speechless. It was already past ten o’clock, yet these two were still wandering around outside. ’Even though this is Beijing,’ he thought, ’there are still bad people out here this late at night, you know.’

With that thought, Yan Dongjun patted his car. "Get in. I’ll give you two a ride home."

Su Qing and Li Huan didn’t stand on ceremony. With no more buses running, they would have had to walk the whole way back if they didn’t take his offer. So, without another word, they both got in the car.

"Li Huan is staying with me for a few days, so you can just take us to Xilin Alley," Su Qing said to Yan Dongjun with a smile. "Thank you for your help today."

"Don’t be so formal with me." Yan Dongjun smiled and started the car. "So, why were you two out so late?"

"We missed the last bus," Su Qing said, not mentioning the traffickers. The police were still working on the case, after all, so it wasn’t right for them to discuss it with others.

Li Huan also knew what was appropriate and nodded. "Yeah, we were out shopping today, and we spent a little too long at the night market, so we missed the bus. If we hadn’t run into you, we were planning to walk all the way back to Xilin Alley."

"You two are really something else," Yan Dongjun said with a laugh.

Su Qing laughed too. "So what about you? Why are you out so late? By the way, how’s your friend doing?"

"I was just at the hospital visiting that guy, Song Jifei," Yan Dongjun said. "He’s doing okay. He and my other friend woke up not long after they got to the hospital that day. I guess those two were lucky. After a full check-up, it turns out their injuries were all superficial. They just looked pretty serious, so they need to stay in the hospital for a few more days for observation."

"That’s good." ’I know they were both seriously injured back then,’ Su Qing thought. ’A fall from that height would have certainly caused internal damage. If I hadn’t sent that green mist into both of them, who knows what would have happened.’

Yan Dongjun continued, "Song Jifei knows you saved him. He said he wants to thank you and treat you to a meal after he gets out of the hospital."

Su Qing laughed. "There’s no need for that."

Listening to Su Qing and Yan Dongjun’s conversation, Li Huan couldn’t help but ask, "Dongjun, that guy surnamed Song is in the hospital?"

"What do you mean, ’that guy surnamed Song’?" Hearing Li Huan’s way of referring to Song Jifei, Yan Dongjun couldn’t help but chuckle. "He’s older than you. You should call him ’brother’ properly."

"Hmph." Li Huan pouted. "A guy who loves to bully people like him? I’m not calling him that. He’s just ’the guy surnamed Song.’"

"Oh, you..." Yan Dongjun shook his head with a helpless laugh.

With fewer people on the road at night, Yan Dongjun drove quickly. He soon brought Su Qing and Li Huan to Xilin Alley, and after seeing them to the gate of their courtyard, he said his goodbyes and left.

「The next few days」

Su Qing and Li Huan happily toured around Beijing, while Li Yuan frantically made another phone call to Li Aiguo.

"Brother, when exactly is your leg going to be fully healed?" Li Yuan asked bluntly as soon as the call connected.

"Ah, it’ll still be a while." On the other end of the line, Li Aiguo could sense Li Yuan’s panic and quickly asked, "Little sister, what’s wrong? What happened?"

"How should I know?" Li Yuan fumed. "You know how it is with houses in Beijing. They’re not cheap."
